100 posts to sell marbles

Recommended Posts

I see that I need 100 posts in order to sell my marbles. Maybe I can get the Green Light on this one so I can start selling marbles. So who’s ever in charge of making that decision should pause for a moment.
I think from 2002-2009 I’m sure I’ve posted at least 101 times. Ask Steph and Ric and Ron. If those posts don’t count I will start. A Clearie Thread and post 100 pics as fast as I can. 🤪 Don’t make me do it.

Already ? MA meetings here I come. I see a shift here in WVS interest and being able to get the ID's on

them now. It wasn't this easy 20 years ago. I will be selling groups of WSV and feel like I can turn the Newbies

into some kinda Marble Head.

Let me pick your Marble Head. I think you’re the one who might be able to provide some details on the infamous story when the Jackson delivery truck ended up in the ditch. I heard people cleaned it up just like they would if it was a milk truck and just dumped the marbles in the “Dump” on the farms. Fact/Fiction or both ?

The Jackson marbles that were dumped happened years after Carrol Jackson was out of the marble business.  I know the man who dumped them. I worked with him while I was with Dupont. His name is Jack Ash, who worked for George Murphy. George had a Ford car dealership in the former Jackson marble building. Jacks first job about 1965-66 with Mr. Murphy was to dump seven 55 gallon drums of Jackson marbles in a ditch along the road across from the Ford dealership building then. Jacks next job was to cut open  50-100 cardboard boxes of two dozen mesh bags(each box)of Jackson marbles and dump them. They were used as fill where they poured concrete the next day for a garage floor.  A later job Jack had was to cut open the last couple dozen boxes of mesh bags containing Jackson marbles. He dumped them along side of the building to be used as gravel for the cars to drive on.  The majority of the marbles not under concrete have been dug and recovered. These are a lot of what is in collectors hands today. I probably was the first person several years ago to sell a red mesh bag of Jackson marbles on ebay. Jack ask to see the ebay listing and he almost fainted when he seen that one bag sold for $400.00. That was a few years back about 18 years ago. Those mint ready to sell marbles sat in the factory since it had closed until 1965. Then they were dumped in the ground. But many collectors have told me, all dumped marbles are bad, that is why they were dumped. It just tells me they do not know much about marbles. Every site has different reasons mint ready to ship marbles were dumped in the ground.

I doubt a story about a Jackson delivery truck ending in a ditch.  Carrol Jackson never had a delivery truck for marbles. Not many if any older marble companies had marble delivery trucks. Every older machine made marble Co. in WV had a railroad within probably 100 yards or less of the factory. The majority of all WV marbles were shipped by rail. I have some of the old original RR bills for marble shipments. There are stories of railroad boxcar derails and marbles spilled. But those are all also false. I walked many miles of RR tracks checking some stories. Which after a few years searching different leads, all were false.

Carrol Jackson had big problems selling any of the marbles he produced.  By the time he got in the business the market was flooded with marbles. He only lasted or produced marbles less than one year 1946. He did manage to sell a few of his marbles to local stores and people. The remaining Jackson marbles sat where they had been made until Jack Ash dumped them.

The above is according to Carrol Jackson,s sons, George Murphy(deceased), Jack Ash, and local Pennsboro WV people, who remember the Jackson marble factory in operation.

Now you know some more of the Jackson story.

You decide but I have many doubts about a Jackson marble delivery truck.  Very little(none)of the story makes much sense to me. None of it coincides with what I have been told and seen around WV machine made marble history.  There is a long list of marble myths, some that will never go away in my lifetime. No matter what proof is given.

Glad to put some true stories and marble history out for all collectors. I just hope someone passes it along accurately in the future.

As I have said many times. The only thing all the people ask of me, who helped me along my marbles journey. Was that I pass the info along for the future.

I would love to see a documentary made on your life/involvement with marbles and the marble world. Heck, even a book penned by yourself. I'm sure I would echos of approval from everyone else! Your knowledge, where you've been, what you've done, there wouldn't be enough popcorn in the world too supply the audience for that! Always loving and appreciative of your detailed information 👍👍👍

I have helped with seven or eight marble books. American Machine Made Marbles is one of the best. Myself, Al and many others helped with that book for over seven years before it was published. I have posted here regular for many years and also steady over at All About Marbles many years since its start. The archives there are full of my stories, pictures and info. The info that I have posted there in all the different sections would be over 1000 pages in a book. If I every did(which I doubt do)a book, I would have to leave these two marble web sites, probably miss some shows and let the farm go for a year. Then get someone to edit it. It would take lots of time plus I am getting to old to take on new long projects now. A lot of my marble experiences are out there, you just have to search for it. I hope some people have kept some of it for the future.

Thank you for the nice comments !  It is nice to hear. It makes it worth the effort.
