One of the earliest runs which came out of the JABO Marble Experiments in 2008 was the Peltier Mansion Marbles. These were the brain child ofΒ Boyce LundstrumΒ (1944-2012), who was a founding member of theΒ Bullseye Glass Co. and a renowned Fusion Glass artist who loved pushing the edge in the glass art field. You can read more about Boyce here at theΒ Washington Glass School Blog.Β On that journey he made many friends and became a avid collector of marbles. His passion lead to his purchasing of the Peltier Marble factory the Peltier Mansion which was annexed to the marble plant. He created the Peltier 1stΒ and 2ndΒ Run marbles which were a sparkler type which were largely given away. However he continued to tinker and test with a Miller Swirl Machine which was located on the Mansion property, but was frustrated by mechanical and other hindrances.

In late 2006, early 2007 Boyce with the assistance of his friendΒ Michael BartonΒ reached out to David McCullough who was the Vice President and Manager of the JABO Inc. Marble Company between 1991-2012, about doing a private run of marbles, and on September 11thΒ & 12thΒ 2008, this dream came to fruition.

Boyce along with Michael, and two additional friends John Triggs and James Armstrong, manned the JABO Equipment with the assistance of JABO team members, to make history happen. Boyce ever the glass tinker, insisted on complete control over the process of mixing and directing the glass production from beginning to end, an arrangement he has worked out with Dave McCullough ahead of time.

The resulting marbles included 19 families of marbles which included Red and Green Mica, Green, Black, and Red Aventurine, Yellow, White and Transparent based marbles, and the first ever Silver Metallic marbles. The Silver are among the rarest, if not the rarest JABO Experimental marbles ever produced. Michael Barton reported knowing of only 14 of which he knew, nine of which are featured here through his kind loan of the marbles for photography.

Boyce named most of the marbles, incorporating the name β€œBetty” into many of them. Among the most famous and recognizable are the β€œPink Flamingos” which are a stark white base covered with a large pink patch accompanied by a dark black purple patch and green aventurine.
