  1. These types are commonly referred to as transparent swirls. But they do fit the definition of a slag (white striping glass in transparent base glass), and long ago "slag" had an even more generic meaning. I've heard some old-timers use the term "slag" to distinguish glass marbles, regardless of how they look, from stone and clay marbles.
  2. Well . . . it's definitely the same kind of marble. 😉 And this type has no name - very few Ravenswoods do.
  3. I guess what threw me was your use of the term "standard" in your initial reply. Given all the different ribbon counts that qualify as Peppermints, I didn't think there was a standard. But since hand-mades aren't really my thing I wanted to be sure that the 4 ribbon variety like the OP weren't a standard that I wasn't aware of.
  4. The "moss" part of Moss Agate refers to the cloudy, often bubbly, translucent base glass, which sometimes can have some yellowish color or fluorescence to it. I think the marble you recently posted in the ID section is a Moss Agate. Beyond the base, Moss Agates can have transparent, translucent or opaque patches or striping.
  5. I get that, my question has more to do with the name "Peppermint" . . . so all cane-cut marbles with external red and blue ribbons with white are a "Standard Peppermint"?
  6. Because it is a machine-made marble with seams (cut-offs).
  7. No pontils on machine made marbles.
  8. Not a hand-made, so no pontil - just a defect on a machine made marble.
  9. Akro Blue Oxblood - a sort of Moss Agate, I think - nice marble.
  10. Are the 6R/2B and 4R/2B also standard?
  11. That's a great marble. I like all kinds of old Germans but I'll take a single pontil slag over a cane-cut marble any day.
  12. It's a great board and those blue/white latts are like icing on the cake.
  13. No doubt, the odds are with Akro for just about any kind of slag but I think the OP looks more like a typical hand-gathered MFC than a typical hand-gathered Akro.
  14. I think Heaton is a possibility too.
  15. I think it a type of Peppermint - just fewer ribbons than most.
  16. They look more like JABO than anything else to me.
  17. It looks like an old patch & ribbon style to me - a blended one with a name that escapes me at the moment.
  18. A good Ravenswood - not easy to find either . . .
  19. Cool mibs, Kimber. NBD, either way but I want to make sure you are aware that you could have edited your original post to remove the duplicate photo and replace it with this one. Just click the three little dots in the upper right on any one of your posts and select 'edit' to give it a try - it's easy peasy. 🙂

    5/8 Patch

I see the quandry - the blue color, in particular, and the seams look more Akro than Vitro to me.
  21. I noticed the Crow-look too - the colors just seemed weak to me, which is why I suggested later ones.
  22. I second that sentiment! And I am very fortunate to still be my Mother's baby boy. No kidding, that's how she recently introduced me to one of her friends - I'm 64 years old! 🤣

    HOT !!!

I feel for ya', man. It's sort of been the same around here for the past week - already hot and sticky. It's like, what happened to spring? Fortunately, it's breaking here now and looks to get back closer to normal this week. You can always go put a lawn chair in the Columbia - I'll bet it's got a pretty good chill to it.
  24. These are pretty simple marbles so there is not much to base an ID on but they impress me as later Akro or maybe Master.
