  1. Sorry you're not getting bites on your fish posts. Could have better luck if you put fish in the thread title. But maybe the fishermen are all out on the water.
  2. I'd have to walk back upstairs to measure it and I'm too tired (lol) but yes, about 1".
  3. It was exactly where it was supposed to be -- in the Vitro box in the attic -- but the attic lighting isn't great and even though I looked into the box two or three times I didn't see it. So finally in desperation I emptied the box out and there it was. Hopefully some pix today, but no promises -- depends on how late I'm at work and how the lighting is afterwards.
  4. Going to say yes to that, and made even harder to find because most of the remaining ones are probably stuck away in jars of game marbles.
  5. Peltier on top. I think it's a late NLR but some might think it is an early Rainbo, so we might split the difference and say "Tweener". On the right, I would say straight up Vitro Conqueror. Asian on the bottom. And on the left ... hmmm .... considering both Vitro and Marble King.
  6. Yes to the WV swirls. Good odds on them being Alley.
  7. Vintage Japanese marbles on the bottom -- maybe from the 60's? Akin to the Japanese Pinchers -- the small single-colored marbles used in games like Chinese Checkers. We call your marbles Wales style, because they were often seen in Wales brand packaging.
  8. Here's an old picture of my Sunsets, which I'm proud to have a nice assortment of.
  9. What a nice thought. Glad to have you aboard with all your enthusiasm ... and some very nice marbles.
  10. I adore clearies. They're considered commons. Lots of companies made them. VERY popular style in the 50's. Helped Vitro stay afloat when the Japanese cat's eyes were taking over the marble market. I love, love, love them. Did I mention I love them?
  11. Found! But no pix yet. Just take my word, in hand they're obviously not a match to your green and white one. Not color, structure, glass consistency, nuthin. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say your green and white one is Akro.
  12. No need for the squabble zone. That's more for when you have a grievance against some specific person ... or when members start getting a little too personal with each other, which hasn't been a problem lately. I can if you want. But this could go anywhere. Lounge. Main area. All good.
  13. I walked outside once in 20 below zero ... just to say I did. I don't think we've gotten lower. We're halfway up Lake Michigan on the shore. No AC in the house. We're gonna get up into the 80's later this week. Which means inside the house will hit at least 90. In the meantime will enjoy today's mellow 70's.
  14. Aw ... bittersweet story. Peltier Rainbos at 8 and 11 o'clock. I think a Master in the middle. At 4 o'clock I wasn't seeing the "stripe" at all for awhile, but now I see it. Its width is still making me hesitate, but I'm probably being silly. Probably a Helmet. I think American-made "transparent swirls" in the second group. Except that one view of the darker amber on the left made me wonder about it maybe being a handgathered slag.
  15. Scott! Your big Veiligglas and its mini me would look nice here. @crowncarrier
  16. There was a time when I was downloading things so quickly that I didn't even take the time to put keywords on the links. "I'll sort those later." And then came the time when my antique computer stopped indexing, so I couldn't even search for the downloads that I _had_ put keywords on. And then came multiple generations of back-ups on small-capacity disks. And now that computer that I was on at the time is hidden away in a corner. So ... all I have is the fuzzy memory. And it's possible that it was from some kind of nostalgic article such as you mention -- so maybe I classified it as fuzzy from the start because I was trying to make an estimate such as you did about what nostalgic point in time the person might have been referring to.
  17. Jason, this was my follow-up thread ... it's in the archives: https://marbleconnection.com/topic/11384-california-agates-incredible-find/ Oh look at the photobucket watermarks on those photos (that the grandson of the founder sent me). I need to do something to fix that -- to do the pictures justice again. Sadly, after the first nice contacts I didn't follow up again in the timely manner with George Mitchell's grandchildren. I had hoped to update them with all the documents I found even though they might not be as impressive as the first but I was at a low point in my life and didn't follow through and then the time slipped away. Surely I'll do better with at least making the photos presentable again.
  18. Chad, this is an old pic that I've posted a lot but I figure you'll get a kick out of it .... squishy Akro sparklers .....
