  1. I have one. (It's the magazine with one of the earliest Akro ads.) A gift from a friend. I've had copies of the ad, of course. Can't believe how moving seeing the actual magazine is. It's like visiting a religious shrine must be for some people. My mind is blown.
  2. I have a giant clay marble -- about an inch and a half -- and I keep wondering what it would have been used for. Giant glass marbles could be for decoration or pump valve balls or furniture. What would a big purple clay marble have been for? It's not decorative. Clay marbles were used for drainage in highways I think (maybe?) but would they have been colored first for that? Not that I know what size would have been used for highways .... Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
  3. Didn't think of that. The red (orange?), white and blue do look vintage. But darn they're pretty.
  4. Oh those are bright! Niiiice!
  5. That branching in the first photo looks very wrong for a Pelt.
  6. lolol Cake mistake garners national attention for Indiana University grad
  7. Prayers and condolences to his friends and family.
  8. I just remembered this one. This isn't a very clear 9, but it's a nice tail. My marble. Charles' pix.
  9. What Mike said pretty much. In tournament play back in the day, shooters were not supposed to be above 3/4". Any marble a little bigger than average might have been called a shooter. You will see that in some Marble King bags. The label will say something like "a shooter in every bag" but you may have to look really hard to find the slightly larger marble. Nowadays people might say shooter for anything 3/4" or higher (but you can bet they haven't actually knuckled down with one of those really big marbles).
  10. Getting into the ID's and technicalities can sometimes take one out of the simple enjoyment. But I still have my moments of realizing that I really do love these little bits of glass.
  11. Please back off from making this personal. Thanks, everyone.
  12. If this thread goes south, I'll want to leave part of it up here, and move part of it to the BOISZ. Please don't make it hard for me to split it up.
  13. Thanks for sharing! Nice to see the dates and places.
