  1. Hi Bruce. Welcome! I joined your site - two of them I guess - on Facebook last night. Be seeing you around! -s

    Vitro Buttermilks

I saw that thread. He started it after I started this one. Someone might think he was trying to show me up. There are a couple of his I would like to have a 2nd opinion or more information on. But they're there and I can't ask. Welllll, I guess I could ask. Could post them here or at LOM. Maybe I will sometime. But for now, what about Winnie's? Do they fall into the buttermilk range? When the tri-lite article says "parallel red/blue band on the other side" does that mean both red and blue need to be present on the 2nd side? In a noticeable way? On one of Mary's shooters there appears to be just the black ribbon on the one side. I've heard more exceptions are allowed with shooters, which is why I asked what size Winnie's mib was. But what about with the 5/8" mibs? Is it important to have distinct ribbons of both colors?

minibump. p.s., what's the size on the 2nd one?
  4. My best age guess: 75 to 80 years old. Tempted to say closer to 80 than 75 but don't want to push it.

I thought Smitty had put his stamp of approval on those in Bob's pic. I know Chuck did. And since I don't even have one . . . LOL . . . I'll take 'em! So Dave, here's the lesson I'm taking from you: Don't Compromise. Tan is a must and if you vary, go dark. Do I have that right?
  6. If I recall correctly Morphy has sold marbles for higher. Anyone remember a particularly high dollar Naked Razor Ribbon Core? (is there any such marble or did I make that name up? lol)
  7. Let's be careful about jumping to conclusions about Bruce Hudson. We don't have any reason at this time to suspect that Pavcraz has Kentucky connections. Also, the fact that Bruce Hudson has started the Bluegrass site suggests more interest in marbles for their own sake than I've ever seen from Pavcraz.
  8. Something like that occurred to me. But as I said, it's mostly a curiosity to me. Pavcraz is a fraud. I don't need more proof. Before Pavcraz figured out that he should make his feedbacks private you could see the marbles he bought and how he repackaged them. He's even admitted to some of his frauds and said he did it to make money. In the most matter-of-fact way, like "naturally I would do it because I could get more money - DUH". Not those exact words but that was the gist. Kinda funny.
  9. Where do you see the may 1st date? The pix I saw in the facebook album were posted yesterday. It's not a big deal. Just wondering. Pavcraz is a proven fraud no matter what. Oh, I see, the may 1st date is at the blogspot.
  10. Very interesting. I don't necessarily see three seams. Could be two views of one of the seams. But this is very interesting find. Wonder what the Bluegrass club has to say about that particular marble. Maybe the Bluegrass guy is the person who won the auction and is using Pavcraz pix ?????
  11. It's cool when there's an article almost no matter what's in it. I'm used to embellishment. I'd be surprised if there weren't any. Do you know how many people invented the marble machine according to newspapers? Pert near everyone EXCEPT Dave McCullough. lol And to be the Ohio news of the day in USA Today?
  12. Thanks for the brown colt by the way! It had been a month since I had seen one announced! I only had one and needed a second. Now I have my horsie.
  13. Nice summary/intro to some of the hotter Jabos, David. I'll have to bookmark this.
  14. See ya. p.s. Rainbo says prrrrl.
  15. Peltier Citrus Set This is an often shared photo, most recently in my memory posted by Galen. Whose is it? Someone named Steve? Any help with the documentation will be appreciated. Thanks. [update: Al has it attributed to Peawee (Steve Cogdill) from Feb. 2007.] Note: there is also a photo in circulation which gives the specific names of at least most of these. They're in the citrus family but aren't all called plain citrus.
  16. Round cat's eyes are easy to find! These are spiffy the way they are!
  17. David, you made a little bobble in a thread. You called Bill "Scott". I thought it was an accident, so I mentioned it to you in a PM. Then you PM-ed me back that you had it on good authority that MarbleMansion was Scott Birchfield of Maine. I told you no. You didn't seem to believe me but you did edit the spot where you called Bill "Scott". I DID try to keep it private, and cover for people [edit: by "cover" I mean "minimize potential embarrassment"], but you couldn't/wouldn't tell me what your good authority was and I was concerned by how far the rumor might have reached so I posted that one "nip it in the bud" thread about the rumor. And I thought/hoped it was over. But it very understandably shook Bill. Rumors suck. Bottom line: MarbleMansion is Bill. He is cool. He has contributed to marbledom in a positive way. Pavcraz is Scott Birchfield. He has perpetrated major frauds. He is not a positive contributor to marbledom. He is endless fodder for threads like this one.

  20. Who is being negative? (A LOT of people are.) Everyone needs to remain cognizant of their personal power to derail threads or to help them stay on a positive course. Everyone needs to be part of the solution. Not everyone will, but the more people who are the better things will be. If one person is being negative, then it might take half a dozen people to right a thread afterward. It's worth the effort though. IMHO.
  21. Winnie, I sure loved your examples! Great examples! Awesome examples. Thank you so much for sharing! I'd like to add them to the thread of new marbles which sort of look old. Would that be okay?

A couple more pix I found in my Buttermilk file. No idea whose they were. But I think the backlighting is awesome. Is this a typical amount of translucence for buttermilks? (click to enlarge) Bit of trivia I just learned. Without seeing any of the marbles in this bag up close or being able to turn them around, there's a good chance there are buttermilks in here, and maybe some other buttermilk kin. Good chance the shooter is a buttermilk. Worcester Salt bags seem to be the homes of buttermilks. (obviously not my bag or I would check!) (click to enlarge)

Here's a different looking pair I've had on file. Not sure but I think they're "larger ones". Posted by Mary M at Marble Mental. There appeared to have been some question about the black ribbons but Guy and Randy both said black ribbons were okay, if I read it correctly.
