Appalachian From Ebay -- Cold Rolls? Test Runs?
Gnome Punter replied to Gnome Punter's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Aside from the 2 I linked, both looking like ass, Dinks look like clear based Vacor marbles. Maybe they should have considered a white base. I like the 3 colors used, but the clear.....makes it look bad. Wvron, my superman/parrot references was a veiled innuendo Ric, same thing, innuendo -
I was of a mind i was living in a vacuum....today a buyer from ebay drove up from Macon and we did some trading I checked ebay and the OTHER guy who bought Ox corks lives within 2 miles of my mothers house, 50 miles up the road !!! Now if only the guy in Athens isn;t shy, maybe the 3 of us could get together and start swapping and look for more collectors ! Why, 3 is almost a marble club Ok, my silly post for the week I was pleased to find a guy living 50 miles south, drove up, paind in person, bought another 80.00 in marbles and traded me 30.00 in Cub scouts and bees for my jars, it was nice I have reached out to the other buyer who lives 50 miles north so maybe he will want to connect. Would be less of a lonely hobby to have 2 local friends in it. I gotta be honest, I was on my last leg. Decided to finish off my MK jars then walk away from it. Too difficult to find what I want and when I do it is usually at gouge -fest, maybe things will start looking up I still find it funny that in 2 years I find no one and then in 24 hours I find 2 Hope all have great weekends Robert

Hello Gregor
-
I found a listing with one of the new Appalachian marbles in it http://www.ebay.com/itm/DAVES-APPALACHIAN-SWIRLS-TEST-RUN-4-CRYSTAL-SUPERMAN-RUN-APPROX-3-4-7-28-14-/221510085578 I will not comment on the quality....but they implied superman and I would have referenced a parrot more than a superman. They also have this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/DAVES-APPALACHIAN-SWIRLS-TEST-RUN-4-CRYSTAL-SUPERMAN-RUN-APPROX-3-4-7-28-14-/221510090044 My wife saw it over my shoulder "That marble has issues" lol It looks like it has cold rolls. Not sure how a test run is done, but is that common ?

Nope, that's not what my mind is on. I will get pictures later.

Ugh That whole patch thing has me baffled. I was able to ferret out about 19 that all seemed to be the alley patches. I do think the "Mossy" looking base was why they were viewed as akro, but the blue on top looks more likea pelt thing.
-
That's what I call em. brain Coral. Working on filling a bag up, if they were not so bland at a distance i would fill a jar up. Odds are i will palm them off on ebay and buy more bees Now. I do have alleys that are close, in the translucent base, but the filaments are much broader than champion so I do not see how they could be confused.

Onionskin Lutz Old Or Nem(Contemp)

Looks newish to me. Not 1800s -
Not reflections Do the math The angles of the annealing VS the surface and then the "C" Scratch Also, not sure where the " And I know what they look like" came from. I did not imply otherwise I Re-DLed he image, zoomed in 185% I could see where the right line COULD be viewed as a possible reflection, but zoomed in, there is nothing for the left line to "Mirror" They are annealing cracks

TO ME Neither has value as an akro buyer The damage on the left has it going in my crap pile. The annealing on the right...it would have to be a REALLY rare marble for me to take one with annealing, but I would take annealing over holes. 0.00 on let 1.00 on right Snakes are nice marbles. I have a large pile of them. I am not into the CRAZY color desire in my Akros, like others, so I tend to sell off my 2 color augers and snakes. It is funny how collectors vary. I had a baby blue snake with an oxblood rivulet tracing the cork. Marble had a chip...trash to me...but sure enough someone paid 25.00 on ebay for it. People vary in want and acceptance. I am sitting here with 50 or so marbles in bags I am going to list. Most have minor scratches and a few of the rarer ones have pocket wear or small pock marks. But I am to the point the marble has to be pretty much perfect to keep since the market is listing and marbles are out there to be had. The solid mint marble just has more appeal. It survived 80 years of kids and other random happenings to come to me and look the same it did the day it rolled and dropped down into the bucket

Mine cost me 25.00 My Pelt MK bag in mesh, cost me 29.00 I think Half is silly as well The marble market is dying in all areas in dead in many. I know several high end marbles do really well, but that is perpetuated by old collectors whom, like myself, feel a need to get this or complete that. I got in at the right time as far as I am concerned. I get to buy what I have wanted as a child, pay less and make beautiful shelf displays for my own aesthetic pleasure. . ALL hobbies have resurgence down the road,my kids will reap the benefits of my hobby....but it may be 20-40yrs from now

THE UP SIDE!!!! The look a HELL of a lot better than Jabos I would love to have some of these...for about 1.00 a pop.....beyond that BRRTTT nope It is sad that people are so hard up and so INEPT that they will deceive people to make a buck. For the sake of all that is moral, go give Plasma, go mow a damn yard, sell your shoes...do not lie and steal....our society is doomed ! DOOMED I TELL YOU!!!!

I thought they were champion oddities

Oh...I played with my Great Grandfather's marbles when I was a child. I can remember playing with them on the living room floor. It would be 1970ish. I now know they were Germans, then they were just pretty marbles. In 1978 we moved to South Carolina....the game every kid was playing was marbles. My mother did not understand the NEED to buy marbles for the most part, but to stop the pestering.....bought me a bag of cats eyes... Practicing for days, my neighbor helping me, at school, Monday, I entered the playground, marbles clutched in my fist, in my pocket (No, I never had a marble bag). "NEW GAME!" is shouted. The ring is drawn out in the dirt/sand. I say I want to play....they know I have never had marbles before and ask to see what I have.....I show my cats eyes and I am promptly told no one will risk their Bumble bees or Blg blue worlds ( I STILL have not found out what those are, no one has heard the term) against my cats eyes,,,and I am crushed. The remainder of the school year people will play funsies with me and only with their beaters. That summer we moved to Indiana, no one there played marbles......the oddity of that was it was kokomo, Indiana I had moved to in 1979. I never played marbles again.

I do not like it It is not a marble any more. It is a round paper weight as far as I am concerned. I think, as far as marbles go, the "Randomness" is the critical and most awe inspiring point. Think about it, Order out of Chaos Think of how a Rorschach test comes into our minds and how we see X out of a chaotic patterns I have no issue with this item, it is pretty, but, to ME at least, it is not a marble and does not have the magnificence of a marble, spat out by a machine I think this is why Germans held my interest for MAYBE 3 weeks. granted, one of my favorites is a german, but for much different reasons. No, what I find more beautiful than that is the perfection from Chaos I do think it is an attractive piece of glass, but that is what it is to me. Just a piece of glass...not a work of Randomness, marble art

Gnome Punter replied to mmuehlba's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
They are right Picture 3 shows green GRANTED it could be because you took a picture on a brown surface Try it on a white surface, typing paper or some such, and see what happens -
Maybe I should have thrown RARE in front of the title, eh ?

I have no idea of value to be honest
