  1. I have never even set eyes on a Leighton so it never occurred to me, but now that you mention it, I agree. I based the "Japanese transitional" on the creases radiating out from the pontil, and the long cut line. It still is not quite right though. Thanks Bruce
  2. my guess; MFC green brick and maybe an early Japanese transitional, but I'm nearly always wrong. Thanks Bruce
  3. The blue and orange with the ox is gorgeous. The boxes are too, I doubt if I will ever even see one of those. Thanks for showing them. Bruce
  4. So you think the OP marble was overheated too? Bruce
  5. 12 o'clock is 3 colors, so a special (according to Steph's post not an Akro term). A corkscrew is supposed to have a stripe from pole to pole that makes at least 1 full circuit of the marble. That said I have alot of mibs that don't quite go all the way around. In a grey area; not a patch, not a cork. I have 'em with my corks. Thanks Bruce
  6. I agree, my marble is really beat up and is probably a bad torch job as well. But I am wondering about the color. Boris64 posted a marble that is not as crummy as mine, has not been torched but is the same old penny brown. That is why I started these questions. Recently, on the AAM website, someone posted a pic of 2 bricks that had been polished. Neither one had turned brown. I realize there is a spectrum of oxblood shades- I have an egg yolk swirl that has Akro purple ox in it, but is the brown glass ox or something else? Thanks Bruce
  7. The Back-lit photo is just a plain ol' flashlight. My blacklight is a handheld, 4 inch, fluorescent tube. So I think that the blue tinge is the way the glass reacts to white light. I could try sunlight but it may be a few days before we see the sun around here. Bruce
  8. This is my patch under blacklight. The UV light does not give it a blue tinge, but the back-lighting certainly does.
  9. Not as much interested in condition as color. Yours, like mine appears to be more brown than Oxblood, which is what a true brick is. I was told that mine was brown because of being torched, but now I don't think so. They are similar to bricks in structure but the glass is brown not ox. I think it warrants some research. Here are some pics of mine, one pic shows a true brick for color comparison. Thanks Bruce
  10. OK, what's this one called? It's the only 'ade patch I have in my display- there may be others in my jars. One pic is backlit so you can get an idea of color, kinda' red-brown, maybe ox? The other one's a lemonade swirl w/ox. Just showin' it off. Thanks Bruce
  11. I think "prize name" just means 2 opaque colors. I don't believe Akro differentiated between white base and any other color for naming purposes. White base with basic (primary) colors are the most common but some odd colors w/white seem to be pretty HTF. Thanks Bruce
  12. Nearly impossible to get all colors of prize names. Then when you throw Aces, Popeyes, Specials, Augers& Snakes, and all the oddballs that don't really fit a category into the mix, the mind reels. That's why I like Corks so much; Endless variety. Here are a few of my Prize Names. Bruce
  13. Boris; can you post closer photos of the lower right "brick". The reason I ask is I have a beater that same color, it was dismissed as being torched or re-heated but I was never totally convinced. But if you have one the same color...... Thanks Bruce
  14. If I am reading my old Block's book right, Guineas don't have to have a seam but if they do the spots are stretched towards the seam. Thanks Bruce
  15. Thanks. Here are some more....The blue patch has what looks like a brass line on it.
  16. ahhhh corks, now yer talkin'. The red Ace at the back of the 2nd pic is 63/64ths. Thanks Bruce
  17. Thanks Chad; My first thing was old fishin' tackle. I got to Marbles about 30 years ago. I then started other collections, when you do most of yer shoppin' at yard sales and junk stores, the more stuff you collect the less likely you are to get skunked. I bet your Brother had some nice stuff. Lotsa salmon gear? Thanks Bruce
  18. As my friend Leon used to say "HoLEEEEE" wow purty nice Bruce
  19. I have alot of patches. more sorted by color rather than maker. If they are more than 2 colors are they still patches? Thanks Bruce
  20. I made this case out of an old window and some lumber wrecked out of an old boat. That's about it for marbles. My mibs need to compete for room with all my other stuff. I just about have my room the way I like it.
  21. The purple one looks like a corkscrew. Never saw one that color, NICE. Bruce
