The reason I ask is, I have this one. Everything about it says good glass to me; the red is crystal clear, not even a bubble, the white is bright. The issue is, I think it's more modern. When I think of a modern mib I think of cheaper glass, that is probably just prejudice on my part. Not sure what to think on this one. It's 25/32nds. Thanks Bruce

Another question: Ron mentions above "quality glass" and I have seen it referred to several times in other posts recently. So what do you look for to determine quality in glass? Thanks Bruce
-
Not much value because of the condition, no matter who made it. You can see a couple of chips in the photos. there is at least one more not shown. So if I was to sell it on e-bay, near mint. Thanks Bruce

Read it all, finally. Of particular interest to me was the SI article that says "Pee Wee" Reese got his Moniker from marbles and not as a dig at his stature. Pee Wee is a hall of famer but also important for his acceptance of Jackie Robinson as a teammate. Thanks Steph Bruce

19/32nds. Thanks for the help Bruce

Still don't have a clue on this one. Well, I did have one clue, The vitro post that reminded me of it, but I can't find it now. So maybe it wasn't even a Vitro post. Anyhow I'm stumped. Thanks Bruce

Ron; Thanks for the response. It is black light reactive, but only a little bit. It glows a slight pinkish tint where the yellow meets the red but not all the way around and also some pink smudges in the middle of the yellow in a couple of spots. The UV light needs to be pretty close to get any reaction at all. Thanks Bruce

Goin' thru my Jars yet again, and found this one- 5/8ths. The seam makes me think Pelt, but with only one seam does that make it a NLR? or is it something else entirely? Is it even a Pelt? Thanks Bruce

my guess is an early Japanese transitional. That's because I think I see a long cut off line on what appears to be a pontil. If they are cold roll marks then I don't know. Thanks Bruce

Can't beat a good corkscrew, they're my favorite mibs. I'm also partial to the 6 color patch. thanks Bruce

I saw some in a vitro post that reminded me of this. This one has so much snow it looks like a snow globe. The base is barely translucent, It takes a pretty bright light, but then you can see it is opalescent. One of my favorites. Thanks Bruce

Chad: that is almost a direct quote from my Block's book- or he quoted from them. It also has the same photo. The post above from hdesousa though interests me because it says that not many have the 9 but all seem to have a cut line. This leads me to mine, I always thought it was a lame CAC striped opaque, but it may be a lame Persian turquoise instead. No 9 but a long cut line that can be both seen and felt. It's tempting to call the striping oxblood but I think it's just brown. What do you think. Thanks Bruce
-
According to my Block's book "Persian Turquoise" marbles are an opaque solid blue with a distinct 9 and tail at one pole. There is no other color mixed in. They "are very, very rare". Thanks Bruce

I'm gonna bump this, If there is no more positive response, or input of any kind, then I will forget it. A response to this post is not a commitment. I think it will work with 8 or 10 people but the more the merrier. Thanks Bruce

Ok alot of those look like Rainbos to me. Can someone tell me how to tell the difference. Then I get to go thru my jars again (always lookin' for an excuse). Thanks Bruce

I didn't try to make something out of this marble that it wasn't. If it was not for the size it would already be in the junk jar -because of the chip in the first photo. When I started collecting if it wasn't Akro, Pelt, MFC, or CAC It was dismissed or ignored. Five years before that collectors dismissed all machine mades. So you guys thinking it is probably an Akro is a step up from what I thought it was. Don't get me wrong, I think that it's great that previously marginalized mibs are getting the attention they deserve. But telling one WV swirl from another is difficult at best, so I will keep plugging away and hope that I'm still doin' marbles in 25 years (I'll be 94). Thanks for the encouragement. Bruce
-
Nope not UV reactive. Akro was one of the ones I considered and then rejected, can't remember why right now. Thanks Bruce

I've kinda given up on identifying mibs because it gets tiresome always being wrong. This one has me intrigued though. I have IDed it as coming from pretty much every company -it depends on what I was looking at last on MC. Any way I have settled on MK, but I don't know what it really is. It's 15/16ths. The brownish spots are in the glass. Thanks Bruce
-
My favorite vitro, leastways I think it's a vitro, 15/16ths. 2nd pic loaded upside down it happens sometimes.

Good stuff Chad; I've been saving them, to a file. I think the reason the responses were so limited is you had 'em comin' so fast nobody had time to digest them all. Thanks Bruce

Since nobody here actually knows him, an assumption that he does not have permission is pure speculation. Most of his digging is done on abandoned roadside dumps, which were probably illegal in the first place. This summer he posted a video that showed one such roadside dump where there had obviously been a truckload of marble manufacture scrap dumped. So not all marble trash went out the back door. You guys are correct though, he does wildly over-estimate the value of marbles, and he mis-identifies many of them. What I enjoy watching is the almost childlike joy he has in finding marbles and other stuff. He sees beauty in the most mundane marbles. Part of me wishes I was still like that. Sorry If I made anybody mad, but I do enjoy watching his videos. Thanks Bruce

Check out "Rocks Cousteau" videos. He digs lotsa mibs. His first love is Native American artifacts, but he digs up lotsa marbles on factory dumps and old city dumps. His most recent video is a creek bed that was a MK dump. He got buckets of mibs and cullet. He lives in Ohio but crosses regularly into WV to dig marbles. He digs up lots of mibs on old city dumps and probably mis-identifies many of them. If someone could find him and follow him around it could be alot of fun. Thanks Bruce
