I agree, a huge, hard bullseye shaped hit, you can see the big round fracture lines clearly reflecting the light in almost every pic.. This mib took a substantial hit, "several of them" the big one looks like someone took a hammer to it, you usually don't get hits that big from another mib, unless they're using a big ball bearing or steelie. Maybe someone shot it out of a slingshot at a brick wall, who knows ?? The fractures can block the light as well as reflect it, that's probably what you're seeing. Clearie or whatever, I'm sorry to say the marble is done for.

2021 Des Moines Marble Show - Info
Chad G. replied to IowaMarble's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
"Thanks for the early heads up Chad !! Maybe by some miracle I'll find a way there ?? Chad G. -
Agreed Ric it looks very promising, I hope it does, opals are beautiful mibs & one of my favorite Vitro
-
Master
-
Vitro for me, "Veneered" is the base glass opalescent when backlit ?? If yes an opal patch
-
It's a Pelmo Ric, a one of a kind VVVVVHTF hitchhiking multi factory chameleon mib. Seriously I think pelt. neither the base glass nor the ribbon colors look consistent with most Kokomo to me. Kokomo glass always appeared a lot drabber, some even seedy looking, just my opinion, it is a bizarre mib. I guess if you look long enough you could read almost anything into it !!
-
Did you figure out which mibs to put in yours yet Brad ?? Or like me, changing them around every couple days, or was that hours ?? Chad G.

The base glass, yes confusing, but the seam in the last pic, lower ( R ) corner and the other side for that matter looks Akro, But you're right Ric an abstract mib indeed. Now I'm getting confused, the more I look the more I doubt, Ah I'll stick with Akro, I have as I'm sure you will agree not seen every color combo & different shade thereof, Akro made, nobody has, they're innumerable, kinda like a pelt rainbo "Never-ending" I remember when I went to the Seattle show in 2017, someone came up with hundreds of prizenames & said to me " look only 3 to go & I'll have every color combo prizename Akro ever made " they where so happy I didn't want to offend so I said "why yes you do" I'll admit 9 of those pistol cases full is a lot to dedicate to prizenames & he did have quite a few I had never seen. but to have every color you would have to have been there at Akro and saved every prizename that ever rolled down the line. At this point, nothing would surprise me. Taken back a bit "Yes" surprised " No" Sorry for the rabbit trails, maybe that should have been my Avatar, a pic of Bugs Bunny's head ??
-
Just looking I'll throw my hat in for Akro, doesn't look pelt to me ??
-
x 2, Agree with Ric, Akro "lazy corks" Any partial rotation like that on an Akro, disqualifies it as a patch and qualifies it as a corkscrew. Corkscrews need not make a full rotation to qualify. Taken from the {MCSA} Marble Collectors Society of America, with permission from and credit to.

Grrr !! Another Akro Friday just bought some more corks & a few pieces of Akro ware & some Chiquita cups & other assorted dishes, have pics but still waiting on my bud Craig, I'm quite IT (Tech ) disabled and really need to learn to do it myself & before you ask I don't have a cell to take pics with, just the Sony camcorder I've had for the past 10 years, talk about aggravating.
-
That was a lollipop Ric, you just pulled the stick out !! Sweeeeet !! Why do so many mibs resemble food to me ?? Am I hungry ??
-
X 2, I vote Red Raven also, that's what I had my fingers crossed for. A red Raven is one of the better Ravenswood's, condition plays a large part in pricing, I see pocket ware, debris & some possible fleabites on yours, all will be a substantial reduction in the value. Damage or ware can turn a $100.00 wet mint marble into a $10.00 marble or less in a hurry, don't let any of this discourage you, we've all been through it & we were all new at one time. When I was new there wasn't a forum or internet website to turn to, so learning was a much longer, & at times expensive process. You have everything at your fingertips now, you're in the right place

"Not a Christensen" to me looks like a West Va. swirl not sure on manufacture, yes Bruce Heaton did have that clip of color on many of theirs.
-
Hmm, with that pink base you might have an unexpected surprise ?? I have to wait also, not great on West Va. swirl I.D. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya !!

Most hand made peewee's where made between 1880 to 1910 for the English gameboard market, German made for the English market, during the Victorian era. A few peewees where made between 1850 & 1880 and some of these show a faceted pontil on one end as an indicator of estimated production dates. The newer gameboard mibs sported brighter colors & two unfinished ends, they weren't for game play but for the game boards. These handmades where all discontinued in the very early 1900's the transitional's stepped in and between 1910 & 1915 all mibs where 99% machine-made. I'm not exact. on the dates because some came a little earlier & some a little later, but within a year or two either way. If you noticed not one of the peewee's I showed had a faceted pontil, most unfinished & rough, I have a few that are unfinished on one end and a melted pigtail on the other, as shown on one or two in the pix, looking like the larger ones made for game play. Don't ask me why, they're so small there's no way you could shoot them in a game of mibs. After you've seen a few thousand you can almost tell with 95% or better certainty when they where made just by looking at the colors & the glass.

Ahh !! " Sweet relief "Thanks a million for the final Steph " I had a good idea but needed a 100 percenter on this one for my bud, "Thanks again to both of you for the I.D. confirmation ( Good thing I'm not payin for these ) " Thanks " again for all the help, Chad G.
-
"Thanks' Ric" I know it's newer like you do just not positive on manufacture, appreciate all your help ( I'll bet it is an earlier Jabo) Anxious for another few posts & a positive on the I.D. for my friend.

A Friend of mine Emailed me a pic of a mib I simply I.D. as newer but told him I would try and get a wider perspective & possibly a maker for him from the forum. Swirls like this with no real distinguishable traits are near impossible & a nightmare for me personally to I.D. Any feedback is greatly appreciated and will be passed on immediately. "Thank You" ( just a side note, this mib is very clean with only minimal pkt. ware & "maybe" 1 or 2 fleas. Color correct, a kind of weak light purplish color ?? Chad G. Another tile of pics he sent me with a little closer look & some different views for ya to look @

YUuuummm !! Thanks for the goodies Chuck !!

Coreless swirl, bottom center, a fairly good one though, not so common green aqua color $10.00 _ $12.00 : the yellow "damaged latt" (top R )$2-$3.00 if your get anything : & the peewee( top L ) another coreless, near a josephs coat type if it's clean like it looks another $10 - $12.00. A true peewee by definition must be 1/2" - .50" or less, anything over 1/2" or .50" is "not a peewee" Just my personal opinions on the prices but I would consider them to be correct & very "generous" On a personal note, I would give you $5.00 apiece for the swirls & wouldn't even consider buying the yellow latt. There are handmade peewee's worth significantly more clambroths, lutzes, gooseberry's, true Joseph coats all these in 9.7-9.8 wet condition will fetch between $75.00 and $150.00 each, the gooseberry's & clambroth's considering the rarer colors will fetch even more. A few pics for I.D. purpose for ya, from my friend Terry's mibs, I have a peewee collection but easier to use his enlarged pics for I.D. purposes ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joseph Coat, peewee's, a josephs coat "always" has gaps between the colors giving a view of the interior of the mib 0.498" Another Josephs coat, 0.493" Josephs coat, great example, classic, .50" exactly Onionskin peewee, similar to a josephs coat but with a solid under layer or color ( usually white or yellow ) completely surrounding a clear marble on top of which are bands, streaks, or spots of color, some onions do have an underlying core. .446" onionskin peewee another onionskin Latticinio .476" Yellow latticinio just over peewee @ .52" Banded solid core peewee this is mine, .47" faceted, dyed bulls eye agate Divided ribbon core .486" Three stage solid core peewee, .473" A solid core of any color or combination of colors with two more "separate" layers of colored ribbons or stripes.

Dude, I hope that it helps you out ?? Just some friendly advice to make it easier on both sides of the fence. "Good Luck" in the you pursuit into this great hobby, everyone here is here to help one another & share what they have. A great amount of knowledge compiled here as you look through the different threads, above all have fun !! Chad G.

"Thanks Tommy" I knew everyone would like it, when I tell people about it that don't live around here they never believe me, well this is no doctored up cg vid. it's the real deal. Right now it rained so hard last night and today there's standing water wherever you look. the "Pineapple Express" started dumping yesterday, a few momentary breaks and that's it, nothing but a solid downpour. Oop !! more mibs !! A mixed bag of super delicious goodies, for the Akro in us all. Some repeats but all mmm, mmm good !!
-
Well I looked outside this morning & yes, the "Pineapple Express" had arrived, it was raining pineapples. There were already a few victims of dreaded the weather event lying on the ground !! Since this is the Akro Friday thread it's only fair I post a few Akro Not my pix but some very nice orangeade patches, not to easy to find this color ade patch, these also appear to be same run, they were bought together in a lot. Welcome Dude, "Glad to have you" lots of knowledge here & many more than willing to share & show what they know and have & to assist you in your endeavor!! The last pics unfortunately don't show an Alley green giant, but do appear to "maybe" be Alley with to much damage for any value. If it where a green giant you might squeeze few dollars from it not much. The second batch of pix are better, try to show only 2 max at a time at the most, with multiple views like you have of the aqua one & please try and always include the size if possible ( very important in most cases) in fractions or decimals, i.e... 3/4" or .75"- 1/2" or .50" & so forth, a cheap set of plastic calipers will pay for themselves in 5 minutes, this will make I.D. a marble 10times easier & quicker for you & the person making the I.D., a bunch of marbles like the first few pix is difficult & confusing. If the mibs in the first pix all had a monetary value & were in mint shape Ric would still be there explaining the different positions of & values for each. If you had them in a more individual pic sequence you would now know the I.D. of each individual marble for future reference, as is you just know "for the most part" you have a bunch of marbles. Just a few friendly suggestions to help out you & all involved in the future, Thank you Dude !! The smaller pink & white ( 1st, 2nd, 3rd pic & the blue and white ( last pic) may be west Virginia swirl types, hard to tell with only one far off view & so many mibs. See what I mean, If you had a valuable marble there & only one bad view amongst a myriad of others, most would overlook it or not try to I.D. them at all. "Again Welcome & thanx for listening" Chad G.
