This is from Marble Alan's archive's. They started w/ clay's in 1930, by 1934 where producing glass marble's, little is known about their early history, they started producing cats eye marble's in 1944 before the Japanese import's, they weren't well known by marble collector's till the late 1980's, to 1990's , eventually becoming the world's largest marble producer making over 12,000,000 marble's per day. Look's like we both stand corrected according to Alan. The history is a little clouded, hopefully this thread will produce some new information ??

This is Phil with me out in the estuary fishing for sturgeon about 10 yrs. ago before they closed it. "The day we caught all the big over size fish" Doesn't Phil look enthusiastic ??? You can sure tell who's taking the picture's now.

Man I sure wish I knew how to down load these picture's, this is aggravating. Next time Craig come's over to down load them I'm gonna make sure he stay's long enough to show me how to do it. I have over another 100 pic's already and counting. Grrr &%#%&)(&^%$. Double time " Hut "

That's exactly how I found that red monochrome alley flame. digging through pile's of gaming marble's and stuff other people didn't want. Also found several solid green av. master's 2 or 3 gumball's and a few solid oxblood marbles, Akro I believe!! Well worth the hour's of eye strain and the sore back, to me at least. Probably blew right by a canary or 2. guess I'll have to go to the landfill start diggin and take another look Let' see now I wonder where they buried those ??? I'll take some pic's of the Master's, gumball's and the Akro for the next down load. Again please be patient w/ me while I learn how to transfer these pic's w/o losing them. Thank You, Chad G.

Biggest right around 1" give or take ?? I do have some somewhere, also some 6 vane cross through's, the color's look like Japanese cat's to me, do you have any idea ?? out of thousand's of cat eyes I went through over the year's I only have 5 to 10, will post the pic's next go round.
-
Are those St. Mary's cross through's ?? not really a cat fan as you can tell by some of my comment;s, just curious !!

To hot outside for any pic's from me today, by the time the sun's just right I might as well bring some egg's to fry with me.

I caught this sturgeon in the mouth of the Columbia river on the Oregon side in an area called tongue point, ( a job corp's youth location ) known for it's strong current and deep water, some holes exceed 100 feet. This fish was caught by me in 35 feet of water on fresh anchovy and a 10, o hook. measured 8.5 feet , we caught several that day bigger and smaller but all oversize, there's a 48 to 52 inch size slot for keeper's and that's it This was the year before they closed the estuary ( this area) for good.I feel very lucky to have gotten in on some of the last of what I had done all my life. ( Sorry for the fuzzy pic. folk's my friend Phil took it w/ my camera ) I have other picture's of me and Phil w/ legal size fish before the slot limit I will be posting intermediately just to break the "marnotiny "

Here's a real one, dust like av. throughout the mib, heavier around the blue swirl's, one asmade dimple 7:00 first pic, that's it. I got to check one more off the old Pelt most wanted list. A relative of the Silver Surfer & Chuck G's dark universe.

Base ball marble point game ( Skip Ball )
Chad G. replied to Chad G.'s topic in Marble Runs & Marble Games
I play w/ it all the time it still keep's score and is fully functional, complete w/ a push bar to return your marble. I'm dreading the day the ancient wooden spring loaded marble launching knob bite's the big one, The game is all orig. even the screen to keep the marble in check was on it when I bought it. More than paid for itself, many time's over. -
Talk about deja vu, i just posted about giving away a bunch metallic rainbow's because they used to be somewhat common. As I said in the other post, I don't throw away anything mint anymore ( except foreign cat eye's ) marble's that where everyday in any thrift or antique store are now like unicorn's. Replaced w/ jar's of fish tank or crackle marble's.Hang in there Scott, I might complain a bit but I keep diggin, the joy after all is in the chase !! Why there i go now
-
Anything special amongst these large marbles.
Chad G. replied to crowncarrier's topic in Marble I.D.'s
I myself learned the hard way not to throw away anything mint, like when I gave away a couple jar's of metallic streaked pelt rainbow's, there's stuff selling now that I used to throw in the dumpster, vintage or antique marble's in any type of good condition are getting harder and harder to find, for me at least. I used to walk into any thrift store or antique store and one of the first thing's I seen was a few jar's of mib's. Ahh the good old day's -
Drat's foiled again Batman, I showed at 8:00 this morning as per agreed upon with all my marble inspection paraphernalia and some fine example's to show them, and met up w/ the dreaded excuse squad right out of the gate. Good morning.

It's the dreaded marble counting partner in action again.

Very nice, not many people know just how old Vacor is. I believe they started around 1934 or 35, I always had soft spot for their hand made atmosphere marble's.
