Here's one of her Amber rings, can't find the other one! She has a knack for sticking things in places and forgetting where (don't we all!) I like the other Russian ring better, it's got quite the unusual cut.

Decorah, Iowa; where we got it, is known for its somewhat wealthy families and Norwegian heritage. The lady we purchased it from runs an antique store out of her home, apparently alot of it is hers from her lifelong travels. Heck, this city even hosts the Norwegian Royal family once a year! The Vesterheim Museum there tells the story. 😊

They only had the ones pictured. There used to be at least a dozen of them that went through but the owner sold them to a buyer in Germany a while back. They were as big or bigger!

Nope, none at all. We do remember now that the lady we purchased it from said it was of Russian origin. Which makes sense because that is one of only a few places in the world where there are large quantities of amber deposits. Patty also has a silver ring set with a huge hunk of amber that dates from the early 20th century, around 1920, also of Russian origin.

More pics from the parade at Steam Engine Days here in Mabel 😊 Law enforcement, Mabel Legion Post 299, and area First Responders and Firefighters lead the way. My wife, Peggy, her father Clarence Remick was an original member of the Grenadiers. So proud to see that old truck still going! Pumpkins from the weighing contest, the Mabel Canton High School band, the Steam Engine Days Queen and her court along with Little Miss Mabel (my neighbor and best friends granddaughter!), and other cool stuff. Not sure if we will make it down to the Steam Engine Grounds this year or not, but if so, more pics coming!

Tons of vintage tractors too start the parade...didn't even get pics of half of them! Leading the way on the first tractor was my good friend Dean Stortz and they finished the tractor part of the parade with another nice steam engine 😊 Enjoy!

Another thing that has changed is the Grand Prize for the $20 (red) ticket. For as long as I can remember, it's always been a brand new car. And they would only produce 1,500 tickets. Now it's a cash prize for the first time and not sure on the amount of tickets printed, maybe 2,000? I never win, but I toss my $35 in the ring every year. Actually, I gifted these too Patty because Sunday the 12th of September, day of the drawings, is her 50th birthday! Maybe that will change the luck! 😊

I might add that Davis marbles are a tough find...I think I have one, maybe 2 that were ID'd as Davis but still with a bit of doubt. Swirls are sometimes difficult to nail down even for the experienced collectors. We'll see, Sherry!

Sorry to stray from glass, but I wanted to share this flask I found a few months ago and this would be the appropriate thread! I don't recall ever seeing/finding one made in Occupied Japan, a somewhat small timeframe in history. Overall it's in pretty good condition for being a steel piece. $5 at a second hand store in Iowa.

Another somewhat older Jim Beam bottle I have hanging around....not exactly sure of its age. @PittsburghMarbles your the bottle man, have an idea? I'm thinking late 60's-early 70's?

Shout out to Chad and friends in Washington State! Missing a little bit of the tag and seal but love all the bottles Jim Beam made over the years. Some states are more difficult to find than others, per production numbers, don't think Washington state is too difficult to find. But this was my first time coming across one in the wild. $15, why not? 😊
