Total Novice needing help getting started identifying marbles
akroorka replied to Brian Bailey's topic in Marble I.D.'s
Welcome to The Marble Connection Brian Bailey. You have some great looking marbles there--post a few at a time--the ones that you like the best--That is the way to collect--what you like! Marble--On!! -
The OP, Noodleloaf is a Vacor “Sunflower”. The more that I see your images, the more that I am convinced of it---I have no doubts whatsoever. You put up a great argument and there has been great discussion regarding this one. We all have to learn more about Vacor Marbles—no doubt about it. The Vacor webpage has given us all that we would desire of any company—ID wise. They show the best and some not too good as well. I am going by the Morphey Auction page alone here. I have identified five Vacors. In the following image. From left to right—the circled ones “Twister” “Sunflower” “Scorpion” “Bumblebee” “Yellow Jacket” Yours is not a CAC—plain and simple, just a nice Vacor “Sunflower”, great marbles in their own right—just not a CAC. This one reminds me of an English Whispler. The bright yellow reminds me of some of those big dug Akros that have been sold as "Sparklers". I am leaning "Dug Akro" here. I appreciate all opinions and love them all. Marble--On!!

My research has been extensive as to the maker of the boxes---many differernt types of boxes. Back then there were many box makers--you have to know when to fold them sometimes--I threw in. Marble--On!!

Ohh-Ohhh--this is why we are here
akroorka replied to akroorka's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
This one was deceiving—not because of the seller, because if the images. The seller was selling marbles that he/she did not know about—he/she did some research and sold them as they may have been described to her/him. I blame the buyer here—not the seller. Nuff said!! Marble—On!! -

Welcome Angie. I agree with both of the folks above. I worked it over on my photo image software and it does appear to be an older West Viginia Swirl-WVS. No maker from me however. ( maybe a Ravenswood?) Marble--On!!

I just love backlighting Agates. The first two are 7/8’”. The third one is 3/4". Sometimes you can see the hit-marks in hand—sometimes not. Backlighting them will reveal their true nature and history. Have you ever wondered about the damage that you do not like on your favorite glass marbles, well these could have been the culprit. Glass killers these were. The last one is very tactile. I cannot member feeling the facets on an Agate like this before---very cool to feel them( for an old dude with crusty fingers especially ). This one had no hit-marks—odd really—to me at least. I wish that I could get an image of the facets on this one—it is just full of them. It appears to have some sort of inclusion in it--I am calling it a dinosaur bird finger bone. Enjoy and---Backlight them All!!!! Marble—On!!

This is backlit Chad--from my old lightbox--there is some white light leakage. A new revelation though--some green showed up. It is not pollution. "Motor Oil" --Really??? This is why I ask for the experts. A new marble for me and a new name as well--bonus! Thanks all!!! Marble--On!!
