Ravenswood vs. Alley Agate it may be a tuff one.
akroorka replied to akroorka's topic in Marble I.D.'s
Mine too--I just do not know why yet---Marble instincts? They do matter. I love a good Ravenswood marble! #3 on my list after Akro and--well some others. Marble--On!! -
OK, It might happen LOL. I am thinking one of each named NLR--is there enough room? I will try my idea first. Marble--On!!

To tell the truth--just for onceđđđđ---I was searching Vacor. I came up with nothing--But?? Marble--On!!

Well Ron, If you see Ravenswood I will ride with that. Is the transparent glass a clue? Thanks and--- Study--On!! -
Here are some larger Akro marbles The first one is more than likely from a "dig" at 1-3/8" but it is a nice big corkscrew and I love it ( you have to know that they were trying). The next two were successfully marketed at 1". The swirl comes in many color combos and the oxblood patchâwell, I have many better than this but this is what I was able to find in short notice. These big ox patches were a common find in Akro gift boxesâthe cardboard ones. MarbleâOn!!

I collect boxes as well as pouches and marbles too---đ In my mind, is a box ever finished???âWell not this one that I have been working on for longer that I can remember. I do know that I have had a lot of fun doing the research. I will get it right somedayâor not. These 5/8â Pelts are not an easy findâfor my pocket-book anyhow. Just keep on keeping on is my motto. It is a work in progress. I paid more for the beat up pouch that I did for the boxâgo figure, I have not seen another pouch like this for sale, so I did OK. I know which pouch is right, one just looks better. 10 cents---Really!! Collect on!!

Thanks Ron, Still--a great Tribute! and intended to be so. This one will stay here at home and be remembered. Marble--On!!

Ok, so I am studying this new book that I purchased, âAlley Agate CompanyâMarbles and Pressed Glassâ ( a very nice book with lots of info and images, well made and quality for sure I also purchased the Book âL.E. Alley âFather of West Virginia Swirlsâ & Maker of Fine Tablewareâ by L.E. Alley III, which is another well put together book if you are into the Alley Agate collectibles other than marbles) This marble that I was researching went like this---it must be an Alley---it must be an Alley---it must be an Alley---it must be an Alley---it must be an Alley---until I got to page #101. Now it may be a Ravenswood, which I thought from the start. Oh well, I still suck at WVS ID. Help me out with your opinion. This one is just over 9/16â. It is a nice little Orb. MarbleâOn!!

Nice looking Jabo marbles imho. The pink is cullet from another glassmaker that I cannot remember the name of---nice stuff that pink. All opinions are appreciated and welcomed. MarbleâOn!!

There are not many WVS makers left--this one is surrounded. I will say Champion, one of two left for a guess I think. Marble--On!!

I would sort the bottom two as Akro. All machine made slags and swirls will show up with a "nine" now and then. Just a part of the process of a glob of glass falling and twisting a bit. There is a Master Made posted today that shows some of this. The "tail" on the bottom right is not uncommon to find either, just a stretched out bit o white imho. All opinions are welcomed and appreciated. Marble--On!!

Backlight a few images. Marble--On!!

That is one that I cannot recall seeing before. I agree, not a Peltier or a Jabo. Ric may be onto something with CAC. I paged through the book "Collecting Early Machine-made Marbles by Robert S.Block and there a few pictured that are close. Marble--On!!

Imperial sounds good to me. A nice big one. Marble--On!!

If you have never seen it before âbuy it

Thanks for sharing that. Very cool. Now I have seen two that are one of a kind--love it. Marble--On!! -
I should break a few open just for a fun reaction to posts--one image--enough said.

I woke up at 10 degrees this morning; the dogs appreciated a blanket after I took them out. I have an enclosed kennel with a fully enclosed tarp attached to my garage, more for my wife than the dogs. It was 18 degrees inside of it with no ice or snow to fall, slip, or break a leg/hip on. It is just the small things that matter, like 8 degreesđ„¶.

I do not always trust cutoff marks but this is what I see. The flow of the glass may fool you here. I always appreciate the opinions of others. I will stick with Akro. MarbleâOn!!

Yikes--I asked for it didn't I--- I think that you have an Akro there. Just my opinion and I do appreciate them all. Marble--On!!

I believe in the old collectors sayingâif you have never seen it before âbuy itâ. I collect marble pouches and have never seen anything close to this before, never with a clasp at the top or the images that I describe. I believe that there may be an African American boy in the image as well, at least one maybe twoâcool image/print for sureâvery rare. I mean no disrespect in my terminology and I believe that this is a respectful term and use it as such. Tell me if you have ever seen such a thing and I will surely appreciate it. MarbleâOn!!

Hey, I just got some more today-- I do not expect that you thought that you would see these marbles on a vintage marble experience like The Marble Connection, the oldest marble board in existence. Why Not? Collect what you like. Like what you collect. They are marbles and they have a provenance. I just fell in love with these little buggers from Vacor and I do collect them, especially in original packaging. I have a few more to get but that is collecting. Low end or high endâcollect them if they make you happy. These make me happy! MarbleâOn!!
