I have not seen the larger bag like that before. Too bad I missed it on eBay. I have just seen the smaller cello type bag with 5 shooters. I have always considered this to be one of the bags that someone made, not to rip people off but to make an interesting bag.

To Ebay Sellers Of Marble "jars"
Al Oregon replied to honeybern's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
All of the above are correct and it is the same reason that antique shops sell marbles in jars and many of the eBay sellers are people who sell in antique shops or antique malls -

I could not find that picture but here are some collages that Ron Shaw did a few years back to give you an idea of the varieties.

As Felicia mentioned, your 'spines' are my 'vanes'. Here's a picture of the 14 cat's-eyes that came out of a Peltier 'printed on bag'. I have saved many pictures of cat's-eyes and other marbles, bags, boxes over the years so I'll look to see if I can find that one of Patry's that you mentioned. In the old threads, sometimes the board was 'updated' and pics disappeared. Sometimes the poster used a host and the picture is no longer hosted or was deleted in the host server, etc.

Newest Additions During Our Move...

I'm sure you know about the Kansas marble club but, if you don't, ehere's the link: http://www.kcmarbleclub.com/ -
Good link Ric - that's a long one with lots of pics and examples! I think you do have to register with Marble Mental Board if the link does not work for you.

I've got a bunch of them and there are ones in cellophane and others in poly material. They go from one marble to 9 and some are Vitro, MK, cat's-eyes and some with differen companies (even Ravenswood with some other swirls). Here's some pics of mine.

Cat's-eyes are a general term for a type of marble. There are many varieites of cat's-eyes within the general grouping. Banana style cat's-eyes are one. 3-vane, 4-vane, 5- vane, etc. are other styles; cage style cat's-eyes are another with a variety of numbers of vanes; Vitro cat's-eyes with varying number of vanes and hybrid colors besides the single colors. The Mexican, Japanese and other foerign style with vanes of different colors coming out from the center including white crossthrus amd 3-way crossthrus. Neverending... The primary maker of bananas, as least when many of us hear the term, is Peltier. But then there are other cat's-eye marbles that are similar to the Peltier bananas made by Mexico and other foreign countries. And, of course, to muddy the water, not all Peltier banana cat's-eyes were 'perfect' so there are a lot of varieties even there. I posted a picure some time back of a bag of Peltier banana cat's-eyes that I opened and you could see the variations. Also, with the Japanese and Mexican 3 vane cats'-eyes, which were both one color and 3-color, there are ones with very tiny vanes and they look a lot like banana style cat's-eyes and atre probably called that by many collectors. So, that's a start - hope I answered part of your question anyway.

Jabo Company History In Pictures

Good compilation Rich. -
Always fun to see the odd stuff - thanks!

Good variety! Only one that might be newer would be the one that orbboy mentioned and the two to the left of it. More pictures of those 3 would be beneficial.

Three Color Caged Veined Cateye Mibs
Al Oregon replied to richsantaclaus's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Rich, I'd say the remaining ones of yours going left to right, top to bottom, numberwise, #'s 3, 8, 9 & 10 are Vitros. #12 looks Japanese. Others could be variety of foreign from Japanese to Vacor to India, China,... really hard to tell on some. Vacor put out a ton of peewees similar to some that Mike showed also. -
Cat's Eye Sealed Package Id
Al Oregon replied to cat's eye jack's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I got it so I'll let you know my thoughts when it arrives. If it didn't have some reference to free marbles on the package, it'd look like someone just wrapped a bunch of marbles in an old hot dog wrapper. -
Three Color Caged Veined Cateye Mibs
Al Oregon replied to richsantaclaus's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I agree that Rich's marble probably is Vacor - just too odd a pattern for Japanese. Even though they had some messed up ones (Japanese), they still maintained the pattern pretty close. The Japanese had clear glass cat's-eyes, besides the coke bottle green that we are familiar with, but I'm thinking Steph is talking about crystal clear rather than 'normal' clear. -

Here is a picture of John taken by Matt (biblefreak) at the Las Vegas Show last November. (If the picture works, thanks to Steph for the image link. If it doesn't work, we're stuck with a post with no picture since I cna't edit it either...).

Nope, not even a masked one. Strange. Thanks for your help.

Thanks, Steph, however, as I just posted in the topic in the main forum, I do not have any toolbar at the top of the reply box, whether I click on the more reply options or not. Do I have to do something to enable the toolbar?

Anyone Else Having Trouble Loading Pix?
Al Oregon replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Ric & Steph - I don't have those emoticons, etc. showing in the reply area, even when I click on "More Reply Options". It has enable emoticons box which I have checked and unchecked to see if it makes a difference but they don't show up either way. Maybe an AOL browser thing but...? I have not used a hostingservie since most of the boards have procedure to upload from computer - quicker - but, maybe I'll have to figure out Photobucket or one of the hosting services. -

OK - I uploaded a picture to the Gallery. Now, where is this 'My Media" button located in the Reply area so I can move the pic to a post or reply? -

Yes, he will be missed. He enjoyed collecting and always had some hard to find marbles, boxes, etc.
