looks like a Brick from here. And although not usually called a transitional it is what I would consider a true transitional(hand-gathered machine rounded) the early German types we call transitionals are actually just handgathered handmades.

Manganese usually produces an orange glow in glass when used in abundance.

We did them in the Akron area then a year in Alabama Then for a few more years after moving to CA. Dad or Mom just picked somewhere within an hour or 2 drive that we had never been to, we loaded sis and myself and any friends that could go and headed off. They were almost always fun.

I have always had a "thing" for any type of handgathered marble. They just seem to have more character than any other types IMO. Of course my favorites are The CAC opaques. Probably some of their earliest marbles. Leightons guys made some neat ones also.

IMO lots of reasons for the "soft market", the main one being there are a lot fewer collectors and a greater knowledge about how common many marbles are. Supply and demand says it all. It has happened to many collectibles, EBAY and the internet being the main influence.

Glad you like them. Only the second package that I have not received. Still hoping Pops put it some where, but the way the packages are just left on the porch there is always the possibility it was taken.

As a youngster we used to sing a Green Stamp song on our Sunday drives as a joke. Wonder how many families still do Sunday drives.

I would call #229 a remelt because of the crazed and bubbled look on many of the spots. I also think there may be a couple new marbles listed as Vintage handmades. But then I really do not know much about handmades. There is no such thing as a cane from CAC IMO it is a runner of glass from the tank, or someone screwing around. Maybe some day someone can prove me wrong.

I have always used metal calipers with out any problem but some hardened steel can be harder than glass.

IT looks like what is often called a transparent Flaming Dragon it is NLR I believe. And every one I have seen has tiny oven brick pieces in it. It is the most minimalist one I have seen.

Those square boards that size and paint were actually a part of a large game chest and sat in it like a shelf. I have one of the boards and have always wanted the complete chest.

But I believe that is a contemp made to be a monkey face. Or am I wrong Clyde.

the ridges in the marble seen at the top of the reflection definitely rull out a machine polish. The most that could have been done(and I doubt it very much) would be a light buff with a rag and some polishing compound.
