  1. Positive!! Hope you did not bid on it already.
  2. Lots of old unsubstantiated info right from the beginning. Says the so called English colored handmades were made in England. Says early american glass marbles were clambroth, banded opaque, slag and opaque/clearie types. And it doesn't seem to get much better. I would say at least he is trying but then again he is trying to make a buck and thats that.
  3. Yes, some German slags have looping and minor S folds but most do not. I have yet to see a CAC with straight color striping on every part of the marble,
  4. Open seams and The lack of a S or crazy looping on at least one side of the marble says not CAC to me
  5. he won't even take the time to update his books with current knowledge. Maybe he will with the website. Stuck in the past IMO. I may be kind of abusive but hopefully my criticism is used productively.
  6. I have seen many onionskins with one open ground pontil and even a few slightly open top poles. I have also seen tons of obviously polished open pontils. If a description says the marble is polished enough to remove damage does it even really matter if a bit of a pontil is left?
  7. didn't you talk to the supposed seller. Too soon for the truth?
  8. for he same reason some folks buy Rolex
  9. 7 different bidders already, you have got to be kidding http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Christensen-Guinea-w-Cobalt-Blue-Base-Glass-Marble-/170873051927?pt=Marbles&hash=item27c8d3db17#ht_640wt_1185
  10. The description says it all for me. Two sets of eyes seeing different things, it happens. I see a highly polished marble with polished open pontils. Maybe having a machine makes it seem more obvious.
  11. Jars make great displays. One of the most expensive marble sets ever sold was marbles in a jar.
  12. You could be correct, I see it now. looks like a polished open top pole
  13. If that is both pontils they have been ground off and opened up. But I am pretty sure it is 2 angles of the same pole, but still ground off and opened up IMO. Colors match up almost perfectly if you study the 2 pics very very carefully. And top pole wouldn't be stretched the same as bottom pole. I still say consider yourself lucky!
  14. polished, with damage remaining and no pic of the top pole. you might be glad you did not get it.
  15. Yes,, that pontil just looks way wrong for vintage.
  16. Is it a whirl it game missing the (spinning)top?
  17. First (If not contemp) appears an example of what happens when the polishing get into the colored glass of the marble.(pontil looks very questionable) the polishing done with hand pads and lapidary equipment will often give these gross results.
  18. ziggy, might be time to give it a rest and move on. . the twist deal was a year ago. why let stuff like that keep eating a hole in your brain.
  19. I do not have any transparent based MKs with the stringers in the base like this one has but I do have many Pelts with similar base glass. Submarine type family IMO
  20. I will let you know. It was the stringers in the base glass that made me think Pelt. Yea, I will buy just about anything(LOL )
  21. Wonder if they ship USPS. Federal offense if they do.
