Sorry to say that I just received notice that long time collector Mary Knudsen in Iowa passed away. She collected contemporary, Jabo and certain machine made marbles. At Jabo she was known as pistol packing Mary. I talked to her on the phone as always over a hour, just after Christmas. Rest in Peace Mary. You betchu .

Bacon is Alley. Bacon is color combo as much as pattern. No CAC Bacon marbles. The colors and pattern on this marble above is not Alley Bacon. The Alley Bacon is one single swirl or stripe. The marble above if Bacon would be two bacon strips, one long and a short one.

Slag or swirl ? Not MFC, maybe Akro ?

Nice St.Marys Alley Ghost.

Just to be clear. I did not see any Vacor Serpent. The odd out of place blue base marble is probably the Vitro Parrot.

Mmm Mm !! A DELICIOUSLY RARE LISTING "BUT" $$$$

Wow if it sells for the buy it now ? I think that would be a record. But it also has make a offer. Maybe Alleys someday will get their value comparable to some others ? This is probably the most common color combination for the Calligraphies. I think the value on this Salesman Sample Case just went up. Since it contains about ten rows of five Calligraphies each row. Each row a different color combo. If it was correct that would be 50 Calligraphies x $400.00 = $20,000.00 plus all the other marbles and the case. Back into the gun safe it goes. -

What is rare can really depend on every person's specific location. It is rare to find any numbers or any of Peltier marbles here in WV. But there are plenty of Vitro's. If the hunt is not exciting then it will stop. Sometimes the hunt changes for something different. The difficulty of the hunt will depend on funds and time. If it is marbles, or big game animals. A collector is a hunter. -
I really like the dirt left on dug marbles. Sure you cannot see the marble well or know if it is damaged or non standard. But it tells the story of the search, the effort and work it took by someone to find and bring that marble back to make a smile as it was intended to do.

Alley St. Marys Ghost is blue base swirl with added clear and red or red/orange coloring. They are all blue and red/orange colors and none are opaque. You have to see the clear and light shine through it. The clear is the Ghost part or how it got the name. Like a ghost hiding somewhere in the clear behind the blue. Sometimes the red was to hot and burned turning some of the red to brown. A two color later Alley swirl. Millions made. No stretch from a blue base to white base. MoJo your second marble just above is not Alley. It is CAC.

Looks close to Alley from St.Marys. But at a closer look, that pattern and colors are not St.Marys Alley. It does not have any Christensen or CAC 9 pattern. The 9 pattern is with hand made marbles or transitionals or slags. The 9 twist is from being gathered(twisted)on a gather rod. The marble above is machine made, never hand gathered on any rod. Maybe a much older Alley than from the St. Marys site ? The pattern design is closer to Christensen Agate than Alley.

Doesn't look machine made to me. Maybe poor contemporary. Poor job encasing the red and white with clear. Off center, on and on. Even the red and white is poor job and twist. Maybe older contemporary. ? Maybe someone trying to lean how to make mables out of a furnace ? Poor quality inside and outside who ever produced it ?????

The Parrot was the favorite marble of Vitro Agate plant manage Blaine Lemon. I never saw him ever without Parrots in his front pants pockets.

Ture statement.

There are million and millions of different marbles old and new that will glow. Even more glassware pieces old and new that glow. Should not be a problem to find either one, marbles or glassware. It is in every antique shop in America. -
I don't think Master used gold for red marbles.
-
I am not sure what color the base or striping is ?

Machine made marble, no pontils. Very common low value Asian Cat Eye. Value is about one cent to five cents if mint. With a hit or chip Zero. It is nothing like Vitro Eight Finger Marbles. Which are $30.00 to $150.00 each.
