IowaMarble
I see these from time to time... is it really a bag meant for marbles? Or, is it one of those items that can just be used as a marble bag? Any information would be helpful. Thanks!
ann
No help from me at all. Been wondering about them too.
sclsu
I see a lot of stuff made for flowers (stands and such) that look like they can be used for marbles. Maybe this is similar? Perhaps something was put in the bag to weight it, and flowers were put through the openings?
Steph
My thought would have been coin purse, but it's a little large, eh? And I have no idea what the grommets would be for. "Grommets" is the right word, yes?
ann
Yep, grommets. I don't know why grommets either -- and big ones. To hold your winnings steady? Until the game was over? The bags don't seem terrifically expandable given the relatively shallow depth, so maybe not a real carry-'em-all marble bag. A temporary show-off kind of marble-winning thing? I understand the flower idea too, but I'm having trouble putting together water (for the flowers?) and the leather and coming up with something . . . IowaMarble
Here is the bottom of the bag. I wondered about the flower frog idea as well but, like Ann, didn't understand how the water would come into the picture.
sclsu
Not all flowers are put in water. Maybe for dried flowers or man made flower like things. Maybe it originally had that weird green foam stuff you always see things stuck into.
lstmmrbls
I believe it is a type of sachet
ann
Maybe it originally had that weird green foam stuff you always see things stuck into. I think this type of "marble bag" predates green florist foam. But I could be wrong.
ann
I believe it is a type of sachet But why would it be leather? As opposed to cloth, like most sachets? And have holes that big? Hmmmm . . .
disco005
I believe it is a type of sachet I agree, looks like a bag you would put potpourri in for a drawer

Steph
But why would it be leather? As opposed to cloth, like most sachets? And have holes that big? Hmmmm . . . This is for macho potpourri. I don't know nuthin! Just playin!
Greatmacscott
Executive Marble Bag = I believe sold by FAO Swartz many years ago. Came in a little box that the bag and marbles just fit in. A novelty gift.
orbboy
I have seen one with different coloured spools of thread in it with a bit hanging out each hole. Not sure if that is what they were for or if someone was just being inventive?
ann
This is for macho potpourri. My point exactly! Given the nature of and use for a sachet, where could it be intended for, with that leather body, industrial zipper, and honking great grommets? A horse stall? I just can't reconcile the materials with the sachet suggestion. An FAO novelty gift makes much more sense!
I'llhavethat1
Didn't something similar come up a while back? Can't recall what the consensus was back then. Seems like it was purposefully built for something... any markings on the zipper?
skoronesa
I can tell you beyond a doubt that it's a bag.
