  1. Thanks, Galen. If you can enlarge the last pics I posted of it, you might get a better feel for the construction. Those feathery white wisps sure look to be "coiled" like a hand-gather pattern, could just be luck though, I guess. I was actually thinking it might be a HG CAC. Any probability of that? Here's a couple with two seams . . .
  2. Just a purty 3/4" . . .
  3. Coupla' more at 3/4"+ . . .
  4. Here's another at 25/32" . . .
  5. Galen, I do have some nice ones laying around but I don't pay enough attention to them. And I was seriously thinking hand-gathered on that blue one but is that possible for Pelt other than the Cerises?
  6. Somehow got the same post twice. Move it along . . . there's nothing to see here . . . lol
  7. Here is what I believe is a hand-gathered marble with a prominent cut line . . .
  8. Rich, I may have used the term erroneously so I've removed it. As far as I know, "diaper fold" was originally used to describe the single-seam and ribbon configuration on certain entirely machine-made CAC slags. The striping on the marbles loops around from one side of the seam and back to the other side. Here is a diagram, which I believe shows the archetypal pattern and is attributed to Alan.
  9. A little feathering . . .
  10. My guess is American. Here's another . . .
  11. Here are a few (kinda dirty) single-seamed slags I recently acquired, 11/16"-3/4".
  12. I've been searching for a yellow/green/white tricolor for a good long while. So what do I find? This . . .
  13. Those are nice colors on the shooter, Don. I like the bubbly yellows too. Here's a few more 6-ribbon rainbos I recently acquired. The Sunset is a first for me . . . I've got plenty with 4-ribbons though.
  14. Hello Jay, Rest assured, Duffy has seen plenty of hand-ground agates and provided as sound of advice as you'll likely get anywhere. No doubt, there is a market for these marbles. There are currently several examples on EBay that you could watch to get an idea of market values. In fact, the reputable marble seller that Ruth referred to has an exceptional example listed here. My recommendation would be to heed the advice you've been given. Regards, -Ric
  15. Just a seam, Rich. Here's another pic . . .
  16. No doubt, some of the classics can be really nice!
  17. 21/32", translucent blue base with six ribbons comprised of horsehair oxblood.

Thanks Steph, I did fail to mention those in my last post.

T.E. types 1, 2 & 3 all have clear glass bases. The only ones I showed here that don't are the Baby Parrot in post 5 and the Type 4s in post 10.

You're right, Steph. But the white ribbons on Type 4s are supposed to be veneered over a lesser quality white base glass. I don't think newer All Reds are constructed that way - just two patches on a white base, no separately applied white ribbons, which makes these kinds considerably tougher for me to put my finger on (without a hammer). And it seems to me that when Vitro started to cut costs even more, one of the first things to go would have been those separately-applied white ribbons. So while I think most of these would qualify as Type 4s, if anyone knows a good way to distinguish the Type 4s from the newer All Red style patches (with no red), I sure would like to learn about it.

Here's a selection of Type 3s. The lower left has aventurine. A couple have additional color. Can you tell that re-reading Chuck's article has inspired me to take a closer look at my TEs, which were all together in a big jar until last night? lol
