Well, so be it and so what! David

I don't believe my previous Post was addressed to anything other than the matter of Galen's veracity or as the case may be the lack thereof. I was not responding to anything in your latest posts so I am unsure as to what you are referring when saying I am mistaken in the content of my post. While I do find your posts often witty and humorous at other times I'd swear my head has taken a right angle turn into La La Land. I really do though believe that the hijacking of this thread by the lies that Galen has been espousing and the need to counter them has taken precedence over anything having to do with marble IDing. David

Clearly Galen hasn't called Sturtz to hear the taped conversation between Dave and Beri and probably never will. And I was hoping so much for Galen to go into some form of rehabilitation after this but as I'd noted earlier he persists and persists and persists even when caught with his pants down. So, for any of you who have not caught the underlying gist of this claptrap it is this: Galen is basically saying that both Dave McCullough and Beri Fox are lying dissemblers of the truth while he, Galen, is in sole possession of the truth. And that ain't mincing words! David Chamberlain

Hi m!b$, Thought I'd get Tammy really paranoid and just sent her a message via eBay: "You and your basement marbles have been had!" That might not bring it to a halt buy maybe it will slow her down. Next time they'll be from the back yard! David

Pristine! Looks like it came right off the shelf and then you photographed it. It is about as basic as basic can get for an Akro box but early. Couldn't find an example in the Hardy's book. Extrapolating though from a similarly basic set and with only the 1998 Price Update I'd say in todays price range and especially considering the phenomenal condition you'd be talking $750. Then it could be a rare one. I wouldn't know. The marbles are about as simple as you can get though with Akro corkscrews: white based one color. David

Why Is This Guy Stiil Around?
david Chamberlain replied to I LOVE MARBLES's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Welcome aboard. I gave my arrowhead collection and small antique pocket knife collection to my son years ago(He's 43 now). Had a handle on the knives but was never too sure about the arrowheads unless I picked them up myself. Funny thing about that is a few years ago we had some jerk pepper the old Jackson Marble site with marbles that weren't suppose to be there. So you never know. My buddy Ron provided some background info. about those interloper marbles at the end of my article on Jackson Marble Co. at the website joemarbles.com. While you're there check out my article "How 'Bout Them Marbles." It's a kick! David Chamberlain -
I've found that photographing marbles sitting in or amongst sand or small rocks makes a nice arrangement. David

I believe there was a painted china that went for $10.000 early on or close to that. Kovels does send out monthly an auction update and general all around fun, in color, newsletter. I have a few doz. of them stretching over a period of years in the 1990s. They are a great reference source for particular collectibles but not the last word by a long shot. David

Unfortunately due to Kovel's sound bite articles what you get is the usual non-informed, unresearched and off the cuff blather. A bit of a shame too considering the respect that Kovels has gained over the years. David

All I Can Say Is Wow!!!!!

What! Surely you jest. I swear this Foxfire Run is at least on a par with their previous one. Outstanding marbles. You'd have to be blind to think them anything other than Jabo. David Chamberlain -
Yeah, see my Post #55 above Brian....David

I have a photograph of the Beer marbles but not available to be able to Post. But if you go to joemarbles.com Click on Marble Articles and go down to my article "How 'Bout Them Marbles" the 2nd figure in the article will have Dave McCullough's Lawn Chair marbles and they for all intent and purposes look just like the Beer Marbles(5/8"). Basically a silver metallic swirled on the surface. The story was that some of the guys on a night shift were tossing back a few and tossed some of the empties into the mix. Cool marbles. David

Sorry but I am totally lost on that 4 V, 4 color comment. Huh? Last one of those were made by Marble King a few years back. I keep forgetting the date but they were a reprise of the older St. Mary's. Re. the aforementioned matter to conclude anything other than what is abundantly evident would be Orwellian. You know, black is white and white is black and so forth. David

I think because any repairs that might be done would be prohibitive and border on basically taking it down(I mean down to basics) and starting all over again. So, there are times when you go with what you have and hope for the best that the ol' parts don't cave in or give out because those furnaces are put under tremendous pressures. That's my top of the head thoughts on the situation in general. I wouldn't be surprised though if they didn't tweak it here and there. David

Unfortunately I'm not traveling this year. Next time I travel I'm going to stay where I arrive for a while and right now I cannot trust the Dr. or the Nurse who live here to stay on top of the gardens that I have going and Albuquerque weather is unforgiving this time of year. Maybe the Fall but I don't think so and next year I have to go to New England. I really should be there next month for my brother's 50th Wedding Anniversary. I am though going to surprise them big time. And I need to get back to California to visit Family and Friends + do a major shipping of merchandise and personal effects in Santa Cruz and in Paso Robles. I am still spread out all over the place. I have had two friends call me in the past week yugging me to visit California. I sort of feel torn!!! David

I can add to this, of course, and some of my Jabo articles touch on marbles other than from the last couple years. But for those who are interested more in the very recent runs Edna has provided lengthy photograph Posts w/specific marble names. I've been left in the breeze with a lot of it; not that I have any less appreciation for the marbles. I just haven't connected names with the ones that I consider premiere examples from the Experimental Runs, etc. I've always preferred to chose my own favorite marbles from these runs because I feel that I have a good eye for beauty. They're obviously single color but how would you describe the vane configuration or at least the majority of them? What does it look like that they were trying to accomplish with the vanes? Having a hard time deciding on that without them in hand. David Edit: It almost looks like they weren't aiming for anything in particular; just aiming on getting a flower-like representation within each marble. -
With the older Jabos and I'm assuming you mean going all the way back to 1991 it is in large measure in the marketing of them. Knowing the specific runs and year helps. Just like any run there are marque marbles amongst these earlier runs. Not much in the way of naming though prior to 1999 but significant occurrences for those who are more familiar with the runs. For example: (1) Red Green & White 5/8" run in 1999 including pee wees that were made to give away at an xmas display that the city of Parkersburg WV had called the Holiday Show, (2) 1" run summer of 1996 with some of them being fluorscent, (3) Sept. 1997 1" run with some great Tri-Colors, (4) the Tye Dye and Hot Tamale marbles, (5) 'Beer Marbles' 5/8" Fall 2001, (6) 1992 3/4" Industrials a special set of three, (7) 1995 comics w/colored backgrounds 3/4" Rare!, (8) A special group of 5/8" marbles. I forget the date. But they were called Egg & Ham, Marlow Peterson, Superman, Clown, Salmon, Last Run 2006 (9) Pee Wees in 2004. Outrageous pee wees. I have 26 different ones and four of each, (10) the Presidential Set, (11) Special run that was filmed for The Discovery Channel 12-9-2005, (12) Eagle Pictured/Patriotic 9/11/2001 bagged marbles where the proceeds from the sale of the marbles went to the American Red Cross in the wake of "America Under Attack." Something like $12,000 was raised but I could be wrong on that, (13) 2005 5/8" Root Beer Slags. Entire run was dumped but they are great. (14) Advertising marbles of course, (15) The Sept. 2006 5/8" run had 15 marbles that Dale Simmons thought so much of that he sent me three sets. I gave one set to Mike Johnson. They are killer., (16) And I have specifically hellacious examples mostly 5/8" identified by Spring or Fall Classic Run going back into the early 1990s. So while some might be obtained still for a few cents a piece they could be anything ranging from a run of the mill group to a killer surprise but if you're hankering after seriously identified and premiere examples I think you will find that you'll be paying quite a bit more because there's quite the history already established behind Jabo marbles. Football Cateye "marbles"
david Chamberlain replied to richsantaclaus's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I'm sure when bunched together in quantity these would work just as well as the flat marbles(What do they call them? Gems!) for flower displays. But I sure wouldn't treat this group that way. They are something special for being cat's-eyes. And I know cat's-eyes! David -

Ah hah! Now it dawns. Not that it is necessarily pertinent to the matters of more import in this thread. I remember fully now and it would be a major embarrassment for another regular on this board if I were to disclose who had given me the bum steer re. the Pavcraz ID. Now, back to this thread. David -
Football Cateye "marbles"
david Chamberlain replied to richsantaclaus's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
This is the very first time I have seen 'footballs' where it has to be obvious that they were made purposely. I do not think that any of the other football marbles that we have in our collections were purposely made. Maybe one of out marble machine mavens can provide the technical side of how these inadvertently came into existence but this group that you have clearly and obviously were made for some decorative purpose. Do you have any background info.? Mostly the decorative marbles were flat but this puts quite a different light on the subject. Save a set for me.....please! I haven't mailed your Jabos yet but fully intend to. David -
Why Is This Guy Stiil Around?
david Chamberlain replied to I LOVE MARBLES's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
For the collecting community who appreciate and enjoy the newer marbles that have been produced over the past twenty years in the contemporary hand made field and amongst the many machine-made marbles that have come onto the market it is a fact that the greater majority of those collectors appreciate and enjoy those marbles not for the fact that they might bear some resemblance to something of the past but because most all of these marbles created have advanced the hobby and have exhibited a beauty that in a lot of respects shows respect for the traditions of the past while exhibiting innovations of the present in style, patterns and colors. The sludges of humanity who are offing these newer creations as marbles of the past do not in the least in my estimation lower the beauty and quality of what has been newly created nor will they in the long run have much more than a piddling effect on the appreciation and value of what has come before. You can take from this what you may. You can let these lowlife scumbags who are pimping your precious marbles bludgeon your enthusiasm for collecting or you can expose them at every turn as I have done for practically all my collecting life and enjoy what you know you love all negativity aside. For in the final analysis it is just you and your marbles. When I gave a kid last week a small box of select marbles the excitement and joy he exhibited was no different than when I gave kids marbles almost 20 years ago. This past week and a half I received three marbles packages in the mail and my excitement was much the same. David P.S. Bill, Funny, I never thought of it as Steph keeping me covered. Interesting. Why, because I have never been one to hide behind anyone. I would though like to know what was the specific Post or PM in which I managed to accomplish this unintentional faux pas. Any idea? -
I volunteered as a Lab Tach at Planned Parenthood for 15 years and there is something decidedly gynecological about this marble. Is that what you're referencing when you mention biological? 'Cause if that's the case I have a marble by Alox Mfg. Co. that has this one hands-down; you're not even in the running. Sorry for the bellicose nature of this Post I just got carried away! David

What A Tribute Marbles
david Chamberlain replied to sissydear's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I'm waiting for the Powder Blue base color! Can't fashion that last one as a tye dye and I'm a Grateful Dead enthusiast with over 100 GD and JGB concert tapes. Jabo did make a bonafide Tye Dye marble in 5/8" size and it will stand the measure of time. Forget the date. Maybe 1999. David -
The shame of it all is that he does and has had a lot to offer in the way of marble knowledge but he persists and persists and persists in a constantly negative mode about personal relationships where he operates with insinuation and innuendo and obviously outright misinformation. If it were just the regular pooh-poohing of Jabo marbles you could almost live with it but Geeze, give me a break! David
