Hard to say for sure but majority look like Alleys from that angle. Welcome by the way. and worth mentioning that including the item size in your post can also help narrow down ID

Found some Popeyes today... one in question
I'llhavethat1 replied to boris64's topic in Marble I.D.'s
I hear ya! Most of my pics I'd take with a crappy Kodak 5mp. I didn't have the patience for messing with ISO settings, aperture, or anything other than flash or focus. If your girlfriend has photography skills, maybe she'd want to help you with the pics? You come across some very interesting groups of marbles! -
Some examples of opaque brown in handmades. It's not a common color IMHO. Happy Thüringen Thursday Thanksgiving!

Found some Popeyes today... one in question

Not seeing Pelt, but good golly if only some better focused pics could help us decide on this interesting find? Do you know anybody that has a decent camera or lightbox that could help? -
Half the chips might come off with the tape. Unless there's something stunning on the other side?
-
Gnarly for sure

I'm seeing more Jabo than Peltier in both those marbles. What's the size?
-
My understanding is red was an expensive color to make. I heard something to do with gold in the glass (don't know if there's any truth to that or not)? And when it comes to black, if no light shines through you're not going to see any of the Mica flakes. Even if it was a dark transparent purple or blue, there wouldn't be much sparkle...unless the Mica was applied to a black gob of glass and then cased in clear... I seem to recall seeing a pic like that before.

Transitional Single Pontil Slag By Whom?
I'llhavethat1 replied to Greeneyesgreenthumbs's topic in Marble I.D.'s
Handgathered, probably US (I'm thinking Navarre). More often seen in purple Transitional because it would date to the early 1900's, between the time Germany was making the cane cut handmades, and the US companies started to go with a fully automated machine made process (furnace, shears, rollers, etc.). It's a nice looking marble, appears to be in decent shape too. -
The solid color white, yellow, and green one's I've seen referred to as "pinchers" (you can see they have a similar cut-off where the clear glass is visible). A few Cats eyes...and some frosted looking ones that may have been in a rock tumbler or aquarium or something. And of course the brown clay and the white clay. In collectors terms, true peewees are 1/2" or less. Anything more than 1/2" is not considered a true peewee.

Last one looks a little "off" for a Pelt. Especially in that size. My first thought was Vitro. But I also would like to see more pics. Agree on the orange/yellow looking more Akro than CAC
-
Doesn't look "new" to me if that's what you're asking. The darker streaks are usually unintentional and caused by contaminants in the glass, and rollers (on the marble machine)
-
I'd put that in with my Pelts based on size, color, and pattern. And as always be checking some of the darker streaks for aventurine

AKRO Left-hand Twist Corks

Don't recall thinking about it before, but interesting topic... -

Who made it? With hopefully better pics this time
I'llhavethat1 replied to schmoozer's topic in Marble I.D.'s
kinda looks like mfc green brick with a lazy pattern. I see what you're thinking though. Does any light pass through it? The only CAC with oxblood I've heard of was one Ron posted a while back -
Nice lot for sale on Ebay.

A couple of the slags are interesting...condition looks OK from a single pic. Maybe different angles would show something that's not seen in this pic?? but what it really comes down to is how much somebody wants to pay for something...and you get two people that want it, drives up the price. Lots of people with lots of money pay way more money than what I would pay. Reminds me of a 80's rubber toy m.u.s.c.l.e figure I sold (years ago) for hundreds of dollars ( i think it was 3 or 4 hundred). But it had been sitting in a bucket in my basement for 20+ years and in that same bucket at my parents place many years prior to that. Probably cost pennies back in the day and I guess that's similar to marbles. -
Killer pattern and Aventurine to boot? nice marble
-
They typically have a good handle on what a marble is sold as, what did they think it was? (or was that the "couple different opinions")
-
Agreed, and it's interesting how the shear marks show in more detail under UV
-
Some decent looking machinemades. And I'm not sure how Alley boxed their later marbles, but if all from a single source (lets just call it gramps original marble bag) I'd think there is a pretty good chance they weren't too far apart. But interesting thought, since most of the boxed sets I've seen (Pelt, Akro, Alley salesman sample) have some pretty consistent marbles. Maybe they stored them out in a barrel or boxcar for years and picked them out when it was time to fill a box? I don't know

There could be at least one (top) ...rest looks like swirls to me.

Does this Peltier have a collector's nickname?
I'llhavethat1 replied to rockgardenplants's topic in Marble I.D.'s
Rainbo? with odd bleeding of colors and wonky pattern? What's the size? Might be something else entirely
