  1. The 2nd view you have showing makes me think Vacor. Or Imperial. Maybe I should have mentioned Imperial for Winnie's also. Do you see the little Master-esque cutline? I need to look up some Old Fashions to see how many different ribbons they have coming into the cutline.
  2. Winnie's look modern. Vacor Old Fashion. Her left marble has a cutline which adds to the Vacor impression. The lighting is odd on yours, Ann, and that pigtail is different. More views might help.
  3. This thread can go in two different directions. 1) We can discuss whether there really is any such thing as Miller swirls 2) People can post the marbles which have traditionally been described as Miller swirls I've already opened the door on the first option. Hopefully we'll at least get some of the second option too.
  4. You're slaying me! *ooops, I was gonna be quiet*
  5. very cool that's what I'd say, or with the dirt on them part of the sheen could be from what happens to marbles underground but now I better step back and let someone else weigh in P.s., now I see/re-see the box lid which says "reflector marbles". I know that some marbles were used for reflectors. But I also see the molded reflector, so that's why I was spending all that time wondering about whether the Automatic Devices Co. was receiving marbles or molded version. Why not both ...
  6. Gotta say the marbles are old. Peerless Patches.
  7. I guess if I didn't have anyone around to help me with a name, I'd call the black aventurine. Does the "pearlized" label seem old? As if it were an original description of the marble? Love your letter. Take care of that paper. Do you have a plastic cover you can store it in flat? Better not to fold and refold. So the government needed dark red marbles and the public needed lighter ones ..... for ..... something ..... Or was the marble just to be a color sample for some other glassware, such as the reflector which Peltier molded?
  8. Could you find the web again tomorrow?
  9. Looking like Vacor from here. Style name: Spaghetti
  10. neato neato neato neato neato neato neato neato neato If there's one thing I like more than vintage marble boxes, it's vintage marble boxes with dates! Niiiice.
  11. Good luck! *fingers crossed*
  12. I don't remember that one either! How much more "new" stuff is out there?! How much may have been sent to the dump without being documented by collectors?
  13. What do you do with which hand? I write with my right. I drink with my left. (I think about that because I drink out of a mug which is supposed to reveal a cow inside ... only I don't see the cow because it's on the wrong side of the mug. ) I throw with either hand. More power with my right. Sometimes better aim with my left.
  14. Here are some pics Duffy took of an article in his local paper today. Walt McKee is featured in the pictorial. (Thanks, Duffy.)
  15. One more nostalgia pic. Thank you all for bearing with me. This is from when feathers on sticks still excited him.
  16. Thanks, Alyce. When we moved up here we had two older cats, mother and son, Jean Ann and The Batweasel. They died within a month of each other. That was ten years ago. Still every now and then I almost see one of them out of the corner of my eyes. And every now and then Joe will go looking for his old friend, Batweasel under the chest of drawers. (Goofy cat!) They both went fast. The mother was still acting like a kitten on her last day. We had a nice game of catch and "shred the paperwad". And then a little later I found her and she was gone. This is so different. We've had a lot of extra time to spoil Brother with special treats. But it's been tough watching him fade. *sniff*
  17. This is for macho potpourri. I don't know nuthin! Just playin!
  18. A truly calendar-worthy photo! I LOVE that tall jar!
  19. From this view, the marbles also look new. Can't see inside perfectly, but from here they look like Jabos. (And I've had those bags before and I seem to recall mine being Jabos.) If you can stand to, I recommend leaving them closed. Then you can start a fantasy bag collection. That would be a charming subcollection for someone to have.
  20. My thought would have been coin purse, but it's a little large, eh? And I have no idea what the grommets would be for. "Grommets" is the right word, yes?
