  1. "Check on the Canadian manufacturer." ???!!! ??? !!! ??? !!!!!
  2. I make liberal use of the stove-top timer these days. And then just hope I remember why I set it. I think this means we're 50 .... ish
  3. I wouldn't swear it couldn't be older. Hotwheel was my first and only guess is all.
  4. "Is challkie only for the dug alleys with white chalk-like substance?" I think so.
  5. My first thought was Champion Hot Wheels. Is there any chalkiness on it that I'm not seeing? (Chalkie has white powder-like stuff on it.)
  6. Okay, well, since there haven't been any oohs or aahs about the marbles *sticks out tongue*, I'll just post some more of the history from Brian's glossary. It's not too late to ooh and aah about the marbles.
  7. Face it. We have to be initiated into at least the 24th level before we're allowed to know these things. We're not there yet.
  8. Ah, here's where that question went. I knew I saw it. I do not think there is a simple method to test the age of glass. When I think of that question I think of California sulphides. Was the age question ever resolved for those? (And if so, how?)
  9. In-between would also be interesting -- marbles which were printed for promotions or fun with proper licensing before all the unlicensed marbles began to glut the market in recent years. Lucky Dog in Michigan used to make marbles with proper licenses -- with image like Felix the Cat or Betty Boop or brands like Coca Cola. Don't know if they're still around. Their business was hurt by imports from places which didn't worry about copyright or trademark.
  10. Post up some printed marbles ... old or new. Comics are allowed! Greg posted this one. (Edit: I thought it was at Marble Mental but I had that wrong.)
  11. Ray Laubs just gave me an excuse to bump this thread. He's doing some interesting marble-related glasswork. Posted this mirror today. (p.s., It's for sale. The mirror is etched from the back. The LEDs are inside of the oak frame. There is a wood backing that closes it all in.)
  12. LOL. Same room. Same job. Just change the sign on the door.
  13. I dreamt we had snow, and that was nice. Then when I woke up and there was no snow and I got out into the 50 degree weather for my run to the post office ... well, that was kinda nice too. And my reward on the way back was bok choy, bean sprouts and spicy MSG-free Shin Ramyun noodle soup (to be prepared half-strength). Mmmmmm.

    Rare Flyer

So the flyer did exist but it was recycled? The print of the notice is faint but I think I understand the gist. Fascinating ephemera. Big thanks to whoever saved it.
  15. Great box. Thanks for the afternoon history lesson. Tangential thought ... After seeing all these boxes as photos and not in hand, I'm trying to make myself think of the sizes now. About two inches across? So "cute" would be a good word for it.
  16. That was interesting about them having to import agates into Germany in order to get them to us here.
  17. LOL ... I want those! I have a lovely little blue single seam which would look mighty nice with some racing stripes.
