    Food

Last night hubby brought me home a small pot with fresh cilantro growing in it. And OMG ... one taste and I was in heaven. I'd been using dried cilantro for cooking and the fresh is so different. Before I tasted the fresh last night I had no idea it was the primary ingredient in the "spring rolls" I used to get in Oklahoma. Here in Wisconsin the "spring rolls" are deep fried and I don't know what their ingredients are. But in Oklahoma they're cool and crisp and not fried. And apparently they have cilantro. This may not be a surprise to anyone here but it was a revelation to me. Before that I only knew of cilantro as an ingredient of pico de gallo. I never made the connection. But one taste of the fresh and it was like having those spring rolls that I missed so much. So today I used some in a rice dish and oolala, so wonderful.

  4. Not officially Vitro, but filled with Vitros. Circa 1950's. (Don Miller's)
  5. I had popped in with the plan to post in this thread, so I will anyway. Here's a fun little item. Filled with Vitro Cat's Eyes from the 1950's. (Don Miller's)
  6. nice, nice, nice. Maybe the best pictures I've seen of those.
  7. Do you have an example of one of their auctions? I thought I knew who it might be but if they've had that name since Feb-27-01 like their ID history on ebay says, then they're probably not who I was thinking of.
  8. Scranton Times Marble Tournament Photographs Nice
  9. (We missed a day! I did my daily Study Hall thread fix but didn't notice we didn't have an entry here. *oops*)
  10. I saw that and started to want to google Maxwell Jackson, but then got distracted and didn't return. I think watches were given to the champs in the famous 1922 rivalry which spurred the creation of the National Marble Tournament.
  11. Right now I'm leaning to Champion but ???
  12. So a little less than 5/8". Hmmm .... Still a head scratcher for me from those views.
  13. P.s., I do have a story of a real marble heist somewhere -- from the 1930's I believe -- from the California Agate Co., or the California Onyx Co. as I think it was called at the time. Gotta hunt up the newspaper clipping.
  14. Every now I get a whim for a google search. Today it was "the great marble heist" and this story came up: A Time for Andrew: A Ghost Story, by Mary Downing Hahn, 1994 (with a 2007 reprint edition) http://unger.myplainview.com/reviews/Time%20for%20Andrew.htm

  16. New one to me too. That's cool. ... and would be fun to play on a recreated set.
  17. How awful. I keep being afraid we'll wake up to that. The temperature finally got above freezing today.
  18. Another one I may only have seen once, if ever
  19. I love the ones with the more CAC-like structure too.
