  1. The 228 box looks like it probably was designed for 28 marbles.
  2. For example, this is a Peltier No. 16. But I can't remember why I know that since I don't see it in the picture. Maybe I have a photo of another end piece somewhere. Box tops get pictured a lot. The sides not as often.
  3. Saw some early 1900's references for "candy marbles" at Google Books. https://www.google.com/search?tbm=bks&hl=en&q="candy+marbles" Most of the references I'm seeing sound like actual candy -- possibly with unfortunate ingredients (such as soapstone) but not with marbles inside. I wonder if that was the early 1900's name for what are now known as jawbreakers. Skimming google books and in sounds like in the 1800's "jawbreaker" was more likely to refer to big words than to candy.
  4. Check this out: http://books.google.com/books?id=FLTZRAL1WooC&pg=PT18&dq=%22candy+marbles%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=KcIKU4G4OMfyyAHOhYGICA&ved=0CFIQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q=marbles&f=false
  5. Another new one on me! Never heard of a marbles championship ring.
  6. That box would predate Vitro horseshoes.
  7. Oxblood can be part of a spectrum of different looking glass all existing together in one sample. You familiar with the second photo on this page? http://www.canalfultonglassworks.com/melting_oxblood_glass.htm
  8. I'm sorry Edna. This is very frustrating. Sorry I couldn't figure out a solution. I'll see you on Facebook!
  9. If you go to the My Media option at the top of the reply window, you can add links to your albums, or post specific images from your albums. It's a pretty cool feature and not that complicated if you know where to look. I guess we should create a tutorial for that.
  10. Like seeing folks make use of the gallery. Here's a link. http://marbleconnection.com/gallery/album/326-bernies-mibs/
  11. That's not my pic. Though I did once have ones like most of those and still have a few nice ones left. I have a coupla mystery buttons which I'd like to learn more about.
  12. The Cote's Master Loaf marble was advertised as being part of the 12-marble box set. Check out p. 139 of AMMM. Well, it was pictured in an ad as part of the 12-marble box set. The fine print said the marbles come packaged in bulk, so I don't know if they were sold as box sets or if the boxes were part of a display for the grocers or what. p.s., the picture of the box set is a little odd -- looks like the Cote's Master Loaf marble was drawn onto a photo of a box with real marbles inside.
