  1. I liked I'llhavethat1's analysis here, . To me, it sure looks like I'm seeing way more ribbons than the Vacor version would have. If you can take pix of the seams head on so others can count the ribbons and see how they join, that might calm some concerns. Also, pix in a different light might help the color come through better. I assume you provide a money back guarantee?
  2. Edna, I don't know. I checked your code. It looks right. Well, one code looked like it had an error in it, but I added a prefix. The others looked right already. I tried to just look at the missing pictures directly in another screen, using their addresses like this: http://i.rwpic.com/images/sissydear/boxofimperials.jpg But it's not working. Maybe something to do with the traffic on your server?
  3. Allies was a name for marbles from way back. Maybe 1700's? Possibly from "alabaster". I'll have to refresh my memory on that too. Funny thing about Lawrence Alley - I've heard he never put his name on marble packaging.
  4. Snowflakes are micas. And this ad does say "snowflake spangles". So I bet you're right about these. I'm not sure about always. In Robert's 1883 article, he seems to call glimmers and spangles different types, glimmers apparently being another word for micas. So I'm still not sure. Maybe the spangle name evolved. So many marble names.
  5. I'll start this out with something simple. I like this little batch of marbles because it looks like Albert did.
  6. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
  7. The Peltier comics were made in the 1930's. Here's an example of a reproduction. It's on a relatively recent Marble King. I don't know which decade it came from but I think we can very safely say after 1970. http://www.ebay.com/...D-/350422196175 Here's a 1930's one, photo from a Morphy's auction:
  8. American Machine-Made Marbles gives this result from a count Alan B made of 470 Peltier comics, suggesting Koko is the least rare and Kayo is the most rare: Koko: 61 in 470 Bimbo: 58 in 470 Emma: 49 in 470 Annie: 37 in 470 Herbie: 36 in 470 Skeezix: same Smitty: 34 in 470 Sandy: same Betty: same Moon: same Andy: 32 in 470 Kayo: 25 in 470 And then there are the specialty marbles: Tom Mix, Cotes Master Loaf, Hoover for President, Franklin Roosevelt & Babe Ruth. Are you sure you had an original Cotes marble? I think there might be some modern reproductions. Maybe? [Edit: yes, there are modern marbles with a Cotes logo on them]
  9. I am not getting notifications of replies to threads I posted in. I've double checked my notification settings and they all look okay.
  10. Someone who has done a lot of research into the names said he thought spangles were onionskins:
  11. Thanks for clearing that up. I mis-saw the dark part. I have seen that kind called a Blue Boy.
  12. Okay .... that's different. I don't remember seeing one of those before or hearing a name for it. Yellow over cobalt blue with lines of blue showing through ... that wouldn't be too surprising. But yellow and black over blue? ??? I dunno ... but hopefully someone else will.
  13. Wait ... your tag says cobalt blue base? Is that yellow and black veneered over a blue base? Is the base transparent?
  14. That's weird. I thought I posted that over at the invisionzone address. And then it didn't seem to take hold, which made sense, since that says offline. But then it pops up here? Maybe I only thought I was over there. .... 'kay I'll wait for more announcements!
  15. Check this address: http://marbleconnection.com/
  16. I meant the auction on the ebay search page you linked to. No bids yet but over six days to go. http://www.ebay.com/itm/390371030535 Here's one which was listed for $110 but ended early. http://www.ebay.com/itm/130490369057
  17. Nifty. I toldja I didn't know bagatelle! lol Glad you found it. Will be interesting to see how that auction turns out.
  18. I'm sure you're right about the sulphides being imported. I'm not sure why there would need to be repackaging. Wellll ... actually I did one time read something which made me think that Hong Kong did some repackaging of items they got from Japan to try to skirt "Certificate of Origin" and "Imperial Preference" rules. But I'm still naive enough to believe that most of the time people were honest about country of origin! ( :
  19. It appears that our internet host changed (or they would say repaired) the way they were measuring the amount of space our uploads used. By the current way of counting, the board is above the quota by a very large amount. Don't go deleting all your old attachments. I think a couple hundred people might have to delete to get us down below the quota. ( : But never fear! Lou is working on the solution now. Don't know how long it will take but in the meantime, looks like we can still post, and if you have photobucket or another host, we can still see pix! Thanks!
