1. Thanks Steph I did not see the chip and had I bid and won would have been agitated at myself. TIght lined made me think polished
2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Marble-/111175653286
3. http://www.ebay.com/itm/9-VINTAGE-AKRO-AGATE-TIGHT-LINE-CORKSCREW-MARBLES-19-32-21-32-AWESOME-/121179489583
4. I spoke with Eric at Rhynes this morning, buying ANY Akro box is going to be scary for me Eric "Yah, I spoke with Joe, He says towards the end of spring we will be selling Akro stamped Slag ware, marble boxes with marbles and a whole line of Akro items' Granted I am unsure what a whole line of Akro products means as I assumed they made marbles and dishes, but I am now going to avoid Akro boxes and glass ware If anyone wants to give it a check I do not mind. Best to check someone's claims if you do not know them and no one REALLY knows me here so please play it smart if you give them a call. Give em a call and say "A friend,Robert in Chickamauga over at Bare Walls told me you guys were going to carry Akro Agate next spring based on your acquisition of the trade mark. Could you give me an idea of what all you are going to carry as I would be very interested in carrying the line". or say it is a product you have a lot of interest in,whatever works for you..... Just don;t go on a rant about hurting the hobby or any of that. We buy from them and I would hate to get crapped on haha Phone Numbers & E-mail: Phone: 706-935-2576 Fax: 706-965-3674 Orders: 800-355-2576 E-mail: [email protected] So yah, I have to say I would be terribly paranoid about buying any Akro box in the foreseeable future. It's not like if they make crap boxes that are obvious repops, will cause the price to go UP in the next 8 months so holding off now would just be smart, safe and more than likely not cost you anything but the chance to save thousands is pretty clear
5. As serious as sex They look like amazing WV swirls. I just can;t see "it" to tell the difference. Just not my bag I suppose
6. I know the bid price was over 300 and now it is under 100. Someone felt it had weight. Maybe the "better safe than sorry" view or maybe they jsut didn;t want them. I figured they were worth 5-8.00/ea just to be safe i also noticed top bidder made 5 adjustments to his bid within seconds of each other and THAT's kind of odd. Like he said ok, My max is 100...No wait, its 120..no wait its 122.98..no wait, its.... Just odd stuff Also, aging paper is VERY easy. Not saying these ARE fake ,but I am saying I can make typing paper look like ancient parchment paper in about 3 hours. You gotta learn the tricks to be able to not be fooled by them. If they buyer had known what to do, they would have simply taken photos, in a dark room, with a black light on to eliminate the use of modern paper treatment on the paper used for the boxes. It will reflect, but it will not glow or show bleach areas. You ALL have a black light, take it out, turn the lights off, shin it on ANY piece of paper or card board made in the last 20 years and you will see what I mean. All paper is treated before being processed. It is done at the pulp level. ALSO The stamp, at 80x will resemble blood cells based on how Ink was made until the early 40's Anyway, neat looking boxes, but I dropped out 25.00 back
7. Y6lYK8UvpEI I cant figure out the code used here ti display videos It is normally ... But that ain;t working
8. Neither. I think Steph is closer to the ball park as a grip point for a light. The metal is non-precious and gold and sivler were used for FOBs and pendants. There is hardly any other metal used prior to 1950 for either. Silver was pennies and VERY commonly used for every day items.Steel, brass and copper were not Yours appears brass, again as Steph was thinking, attaches it to a lighting source
9. There also needs to be a stupid check. I fumbled my keyboard into a 350.00 bid on a 30.00 item I think 5.00 Incriments would serve more bids on the Stuff that is not going to bring over 50.00 My input
10. It is allowing me to pre-enter my bids Here is an issue, i see it shows the NEXT incriment must be 10.00 So if I bid 10.00 on a marble, the next porson must bid 20 and me 30.00 to surpass them if this is true, there would be a simply way for a person to manipulate many of these marbles. If a marble has a value of 25-30 and someone bids 20.00...unless a collector NEEDS it for his collection, he is not bidding 30.00 THis is what I am seeing on the YOUR BIDS page Granted that may be fine on high end marbles, but on 20-50.00 Akro's and CACs it just seems fruitless to bid after the fact Yah I just tried to fudge some of my bids by 5.00 It only excepts 10.00 increments. That's a bit much on lower marbles IMO
11. Yah, my lone Vitro Oxblood lol I am still second guessing my decision to not bid on those 3 marbles. What are the odds I will find a honker that looks like THAT any time before I reach the age to collect Social Security Ah well, youwin some....and then you talk yourself out of some and lose sleep over it...... BY THE WAY CLYDE>......
12. Oh no This is a marble king, modern wasp with a messed up band pattern THose dark, muddy wasps they came out with in the 80's. I was just amazing that one looked just like a vitro helmet I have some Akros that are SIMILAR to helmets, but seem to have more in common with tr-lites I saw a listing this past week for 3 big Akros with oxblood. I had never seen the like and they looked a LOT like vitros but the size was way off. I got clyde to look at them and he said he felt they were dug. That Dug stuff...so much nicer than the normal stuff at times Here is a pic of 1 I fell in love with...just not 250.00 for all 3 "in-love" lol
13. It is a continuation The black area of the marble, hard to see unless you want to see it, on the bottom has a single strand of red. I thought it was a scratch until I hit it with 10X zoom on the camera
14. Is that neat looking or what ? lol What's the 1st thing I think of ???? TA-DOW !
15. Play4fun is someone who, I THINK, Dave Becker has to compete with as I think he told me they are a few miles south of him. AGAIN I THINK he told me they Prey on people who do not know anything. Per the snagging someones layout...that really has never bothered me. I buy a lot from cain and sometimes his looks like Dani's. I buy the marble, not the seller. I have people stealing my feedback template all the time anyway,so I am flattered Now GREMLIN...that scares me I purchased marbles from him Should I be concerned that I am paying too much for unmentioned polished marbles or no ? I do not mind polished, but I do not want to pay a premium for them since i do not have to. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Marbles-AKRO-AGATE-CORKSCREWS-LOT-OF10-/261279630535 he does not have very detailed images, they are all 640x480 so no zooming in and DLing and zooming blows them apart at 110% and on. I usually trust EVERYONE until I get handled BTW! CLYDE! NANNY....NANNY...BOO BOO !
16. I dunno what it means in marbles, but in colors it means softer, less sharp and less bright Middle top is red, most of the left side are muted, all of the lower are muted and all of the right are muted until you hit the white areas.
17. It's old looking glass to me. Also.... Rogue hair ? Retake the photo on a higher end marble or a marble you want other's to think is higher end
18. Haha Never heard of it After the issue with Dave and his spelling that my humor caused him anger, I thought Dan had Misspelled Carnelian and I did not want to correct him Ty for the info heh
