  1. I think the most important thing to distinguish is the difference between a contemporary example and a forgery. If a contamporary artist produces sulphides, there is nothing wrong with that imo. However, if someone tries to imitate and place a pontil on that new marble, that is wrong and a forgery. Same thing could be said on any reproduction of antiquities. Sami
  2. If anyone who cannot see the difference between a genuine Christensen and a Shamrock or a Jabo, they shouldn't risk their money on them. I think John went out of his way to stamp his marbles to not get into confusion, but my favorites are his early works without the stamp. I really think that people who are worried on these contemporary marbles being confused with antique ones are either color blind like Galen or seriously do not know what they are talking about. Sami
  3. The very strong side of this board, compared to the rest of the boards, has been the tolarance towards heated and contraversial discussions not being controlled and were left for others to read. Sue and Lou were very good at doing that, although I am sure it gave them a lot of heartburn. Things are changing and I am missing the way things were. Contraversial threads may not be pleasant for some, but are also interesting and could be very informal too. Sami
  4. Thanks Sue! First, by attached I meant to say the attached picture. The balls are not attached to each other. These are 3 1/2" in diameter, huge and heavy carpet balls. The third is a seperate purchase which is a rubber ball from, I estimate, around 1940'ties. I agree that the colors and patterns of the carpet balls are unusual. One of them has 4 different colors on top of white base. Sami
  5. I found these two attached carpet bowls in an antique shop. I liked them and picked them up but am not sure if they are indeed old. I know we have here very knowledgable members. Could anyone confirm if these old or new? Sorry about the size of the picture. Thanks in advance, Sami
  6. Thanks guys for the effort to explain. So far as I understand it, the core makes a difference in how common or rare the Trilevel swirls are. Is the solid core with a rare color or a ribbon core, or a latticino core makes it rarer or desirable? How about other layers making a difference in rarity? I know I am pushing this a little further, but it may be worthed for educational purposes. Sami
  7. I am very interested in understanding the difference between a rare and common tri-level swirl. Sami
  8. Has anyone melted and analyzed any other company (Other than Akro and MFC) oxblood glass to make sure they do not qualify for certain group of marble collectors oxblood criteria? Sami
  9. Ken, Did you pick the marbles for your collection randomly as far as seems concern or is there a chance you picked single seamers to take home? That may explain why you have high percentage of them in your collection. Sami
  10. Wow Bill, really impressive! What size is the Gutta Percha then? Sami
  11. Galen, if that is the same marble I am thinking, the colors look too washed out from the light and you may want to show the turkey heads on that marble. Sami
  12. A few people thought it is real deal. I personally think it is absolutely gorgeous authentic China. Sami
  13. Magnificent examples! Thanks for sharing. Sami
  14. I am 99.9% sure that is an old style Peltier Blue Bee. Sami
  15. That is great info as far as dating the marbles, but they have very little value due to their condition. Are the pontils ground faceted? Sami
  16. Absolutely fantastic show! Thanks Lee, Ernie and Dani for unbelievable hospitality! So much to do other than marbling, this show has its own style. There were great marbles to be found and lots of buyers with tons of cash too. Sami
  17. Fantastic find! Did you get the contact through your website Craig? And what size are the CA slags? Sami
  18. Good luck on finding any character marble with blue base. Some of the rarest of Peltier marbles. Sami
  19. That Miller Christmas Tree on post #3 is unbelievable. Is that picture from an old Running Rabbit catalog? Is it for sale (wishful thinking)? Sami
  20. And why would you post a frustrated qoute when people are trying to help you with your question? Sami
