  1. Don't forget to stop by the couple days before the show at the hotel and meet people in their rooms and get your marbles iD'd, buy, sell, trade, etc. That's one of the best parts of the overall show.
  2. I think Craig is spot on. On a similar note (not trying to highjack the thread), if someone posts a pic and asks about the marble on one of the boards. I do think it is unethical for someone to lowball a price before the poster finds out at least a value range on the marble (obviously depending on condition, etc.). The boards are here to help people learn about marbles. By the way, on the eBay situation described above, if the Buyer that makes an offer gets burned on condition......?
  3. Dani describes her grading numbers quite clearly in her listing. They are different from what many collectors think of as the number grading. But, she makes it clear if people read the listing - so her grading description is correct.
  4. Beautiful marble and there are at least two people that think it is worth it...
  5. And, a multitwist, so that adds to its 'value', IMHO.
  6. Neat finds. Those Master bags have some unusual marbles once in a while.
  7. The popeye is interesting but I'm at a loss why double ingots (even at that size) are getting bids. Can anyone enlighten me? That rare?
  8. Rich doesn't like the bags (show them to me) - he likes the marbles...
  9. Great looking marbles and great pics, too. Thanks for sharing!
  10. Neat bag - one that was probably made in Mexico for overseas distribution as mentioned. I have a couple bags that i kept under the El Aquila name. Here's two where the "stuks" name is spelled differently. I think the stuks is the correct spelling as it translated to pCs or, in my guess, pieces - like we see in other marble bag packaging.
  11. I just received the January 2013 newsletter and there is an excellent article by Gerald Wichter on the Marble King swirls - a must read for everyone. He makes a compelling case and has lots of factual information. If anyone is not a member of WVMCC, you are missing out on a great newsletter. Bob Neff is stepping down as Editor after 8 & 1/2 years and a big thank you to him for his work!
  12. No oxblood on the one - just a deep red
  13. And here is one that Patry called a Pink & Peach Pastel
  14. And here's a pic from 1999 (not sure whose) that was described as a Berry Pink but not one I would consider to be in that category - but definitely has Pink!
  15. This one of mine I've always thought was an MK.
  16. The patch on the top looks like the typical MK "oxblood".
  17. Thanks all. I passed the basic info on to the gentleman and found out that I was wrong in my assumption that he wanted to sell it now. It's a family thing so, for now, he plans to keep it.
  18. Our local Museum has part of my collection for a couple months (rotating local collections) and I spent some time yesterday looking at folks' marbles and telling them what they have. This large amber slag came rolling in and I really had no idea on value so I snapped a couple pics and told them I'd ask on the boards. It is 1 & 27/32 inches in size and there is one tiny chip (didn't show up in pics that I took). I assume it is MFC. I'd like to give them a rough value range if they should sell it. Thanks for any help.
  19. If you are goiing to put the word otu to the public and try and get new collectors involved, especially younger ones, then your idea of having some type of topic at each meeting would be a good one. Some thoughts for newbies and even some mid-range collectors include: 1) Grading marbles - showing different types of damage - have examples of subsurface moons, fractures, etc.; 2) basics on older handmade collecting (some machine made collectors might find that interesting since they may not know much about it) but need someone with good examples of basic handmades; 3) same thing for machine mades with examples of various basic types - cat's-eyes, oxblood, metallic, corkscrew, Rainbo, NLR, CA, etc. 4) later on, if you get kids in attendance, you could have one meeting where there are some marble shooting games set up; 5) maybe a talk by someone who sells (and buys) successfully on eBay. Just some thoughts although I agree with Galen if you only have the "normal" group of collectors that come to shows, etc. By the way, keep the "learning" part to a half-hour or so, and if certain people want more info, they can talk to the speaker after the "talk".
  20. I thought in LA everything is an hour drive away - LOL!. I'd get as many people involved as possible. If people are interested in marbles, they'd come to a once per quarter meeting with an hour+ drive.
