Yes, do try to come by either Thursday or Friday - will be easier to help you figure out what you have.

See Anything In This Group?

What did you find there, Scott? Post a picture when you get them. Teh shooter looks like it has some 'wedding cake' tendencies. The listing pic has tht odd one with dark red ribbon but otherwise, ....? -
Still trying to figure out what to bring, besides empty plastic boxes to bring home what I buy. Glad to hear the weather will be nice. I'll be in about mid-afternoon on Wed.

Cool - good luck!

Yup, congratulations, Gramp!

Great variety - they are among the prettiest marbles even if not as respected as some...

Neat, Dave was giving away CAC's, huh? LOL! This is a gift I got from him when I visited the factory back at the time of the 2005 Spring Classic Run.

You do see the white based ones from time to time (of course, sometimes you have to put that bright light on the white based ones with black or blue corking to see if there is oxblood). A good idea for newbies (and some of us little older ones) when they go to shows, etc. The yellow based one I have only seen one of before so I would say that is a rare one.

Barbara - are you coming just for the day of the show - Saturday? If you can come by on Thursday or Friday and bring what you have, you can sit down with some of the collectors and they can give you some ideas on values and pricing. The 'in-room' visiting (trading, buying & selling, too) portion goes on all afternoon and evening (various rooms open whenever - no set pattern - people are open in afternoon, go to dinner, come back and open up again, etc.) Plus you get to see other collectors marbles, if you are interested.

That is kinda cool!

The first time I heard it used was on one of the Boards when Edna used it back in 2008. Here's is a picture she posted of her 'anti-blackies'. Interesting name and not sure of the pure criteria for it.

Kind of looks like a foreign messed up cat's-eye but hard to tell from pics.

Another NW birthday - hope you have a good one!

The mesh bag shown above and a similar polybag are the only ones with a Ravenswood label where I have seen larger marbles. However, the Genuine Old Fashion bag is also one attributed to Ravenswood - only has Ravenswood marbles (Ron has ocnfirmed the marbles, too) and here are two bags I have that have the larger marbles in them (same style so....?).

Here's a post that Ron Shepherd did on LOM back in 2007 or so: --------------------- Here goes, believe what you want. About the second year i was researching Ravenswood i ran into my first Paul Bunyans. I was directed to a woman in Ravenswood for Ravenswood marbles and info. She was a close relative of Edwin Safreed who built most of the equipment and operated everything at Ravenswood. She showed me my first Paul Bunyans and assured me that Edwin brought them straight from the factory that evening when he finished work. She said they were still to warm to hold in her hand. Faye Safreed daughter of Edwin also has told me over and over that her Dad made the Paul Bunyans at Ravenswood. She remembers watching him make them. Another former Ravenswood Novelty employee also told me that they were made at Ravenswood. Another former employee could not remember if they were made there. I agree they look Master or Akro, and i know and have the bags with the paper label stating made by Akko and sold by Ravenswood. I have wondered if this was done to make the bags and marbles more saleable. The Akro name and marbles got more collectors attention and sold for much more than Ravenswood years ago. Years after the plant closed remaining stock and items were auctioned. Many in cases, maybe the Paul Bunyans was purchased then and the paper label added to resale them? From what i know, none were ever found one the river bank while digging, but everything dumped here was dumped even later years after the auction. The actual company while in business never dumped at the river bank. I have not had anyone confirm these being dug at Akro, or found in any Akro original package? Akro and Ravenswood were always in competition. Akro people are the likely ones who destroyed the Ravenswood equipment over patient rights. Maybe Ravenswood had some Akro equipment or someone with former Akro knowledge. I could go on, i have been after this item for more than ten years. My feeling is that there is a possibility that they were made at Ravenswood. The people who have told me so, have nothing at all to gain by not being truthful. I like to have more than one, usually three confirmations of any marble history. Even Paul Cox said they were made at Ravenswood and he was there and company owner. It has always been assumed that since they looked Akro or Master and not like Ravenswoods, that they could not have been made by Ravenswood. Maybe both Akro and Ravenswood made them? One copying the other, who made them first? You decide!! For now, i think they were made at Ravenswood Novelty. Until i or someone proves 100% that they were not. Time to get off work, and bedtime. Hope it makes sense, and i could add more, but time and space. Good luck!

Looks like fun!

Some of those, when posted separately, are going to make ID'ing some WV swirls, Alley & Champion especially, even harder. Beautiful marbles!

Very possibly. I've seen pictures of a yellow one and a green one similar to the red and a couple of guinea styles along the line of the other.

Hee's pics of a 'Jeff Hale' from 2001 - 2003 time frame. I don't know which Jeff Hale this is but he is a marble collector. Maybe someone can determine which Jeff it is. I rememebr the Jeff Hale from the boards had areal tough time with spelling. I think he said he had learned everything phonetically. I thought he was great and very knowledgable. He is the one that set up the Yahoo Club.

Hi Steve - yup, I'll be there on Wednesday afternoon. I had emailed people (probably even you) with a general email in January or so about the show. Steve's email was on the list and it did not come back so I assume it was still good. Mike Johnson, noted book author, will be there on Friday (Rich was able to get him a room even though the hotel said they did not have rooms). Anyone still wanting to book a room and haven't yet, messgae me and I'll give you a contact name at the hotel that may help get a room on the marble flooragor close).

Great story! Keep up the good work!

I think Pete got caught by surprise when they upgraded the LOM. He posted that he had not had a chance to look at it yet. I was able to get on after logging in again although the next time I used the old link, I got a 'not authorized' type of message. However, on the lower right of the page, there was a 'navigation' drop down menu and it listed the Round Table and othe forums so you could click there and get on. Here's a link I am now using: http://www.landofmarbles.com/phpbb/forumdisplay.php?27-Land-of-Marbles-Community-Forums
