I don't think I ever heard an unfriendly word from Bob Vayder. He was an asset to every show he went to. The marble world lost another one of the good guys. He will be missed.

Catfish said: "I would suggest throwing a regular 'ol marble in your pocket and heading down to Best Buy or where ever and shoot some pics with the sales representative at the store." Wow! Now that sounds like some really good advice if you are buying a camera for marble pics.

I have to say that one of the two marbles I had polished was done by Leroy. It was a perfect job too- he did just what I wanted done. Thanks again Leroy!

Hello Burt- You have a rare example of what was probably someone's favorite marble. They certainly played with it a lot. Maybe even loved it? It is unusual to see a Lutz marble in such misused condition. This is just my opinion and it is an option to polishing- You can display the marble as it is. Sooner or later you'll have some good stories to tell about how it got all those kisses. I personally wouldn't polish those old war stories off the surface of the marble. The end result might be shiny and show some lutzy sparkle, but all the schoolyard tales would be long gone. I'm Hip, Lloyd PS- I admit to being an extremist as far as polishing- I have only had 2 marbles polished since I started collecting sometime in the last century.

Hey Joe, Thanks for the great show report. Nice Job! Super pictures too. I think you got some of the rare birds this time- George Sourlis, Griff the Heron and Everett Grist- wOw! Grocki, Biffany, Bass and Jones too! Looks like a fun time was had by all. Sorry I mised this one, Lloyd Huffer

Our on the scene reporter says: Betcha anything Art Jones & Bill Bass are the top suspects.................

The Griff & Greg Report. Better than Huntley Brinkley- at least for those of us who didn't go to the show.

Thanks for the 'On Site' reporting Gregg. It's like we are there at the show with you. Sounds like Griff's Haul is a hit! Hope you're having a good show too. Good morning, Lloyd Huffer

New England Collectors Lost A Friend
Hipocritter replied to Scoop's topic in Marble Friends Memorial
Sue Said: Paul Gerson was a wonderful friend to a lot of New England marble collectors... Paul had passed away, very suddenly, on August 1st I was stunned... Paul was only 65 It seems like if you turn your back for one minute another one of the good guys falls. Paul was one of the most interesting men I ever met. I am sure this is a major blow to his family and everyone that knew him. Respectfully, Lloyd Huffer -
Oh Happy Day! LL

Hard to beat what Catfish said: oh yeah, & there's the part too. Absolutely fabulous handwork- Nice Job Mike. Lloyd

The precise lines don't have an obvious start and finish like most of the geometric decorations. As straight as the lines are, they are often covered with color from the squares- kinda blotchy. It would be a much more tedious task to make the squares than the lines. Lines could be made easily with a drill or a lathe. The squares - one at a time. You have to question why all the marbles have so much damage. Most game board sets are mint! They were never used as shooting marbles. They were used as game pieces -just markers like checkers or chessmen. Some of the mint-est small marbles I ever owned came on game boards. A lot of the damage appears to have occured before the marble was decorated or embellished. Is the crack really covered by the black square? There are a lot of blow-outs evident in the damage. You have to wonder if the marbles were fired a second time.

I always called the figure Charles shows a Hedge Hog. A small creature covered all over with little points instead of quills. Not the same, but, kind of a European version of a Porcupine. Mikes' is more typical of what I call a Razorback Hog. The raised ridge along the top of the spine is a good field mark. Both are desirable sulphides. Thanks for sharing. I'm Hip, :Happy_457: Lloyd

WoW! Thanks for the tour Griff- I feel like I was there. Those are some Nice fish! Do you really think it's fair to flash a catch of Perch like that to a guy with no fish left in the freezer? Now you've done it- You talked me into it ( and I talked the missus into staying home ) - it would be foolish not to cast a line today. It's a little rainy and a perfect time for fish catching. I'm off for a little pond fishin'. Too bad you're not closer, you could join the fun. McGregor's pond is loaded with Perch & Largemouth Bass. No time for typing-gonna go fishin' LL

Hi-ya Popeyecollector, Thanks for the inside look at this season's Amana Show. What a wonderful time of the year to be in Iowa. For me it's the super food as much as the marbles. I'm Jonesin' for some sauer bratten at the Amana Colonies, a feast of beef tenderloin at the Lark & a pancake breakfast or two at the Brick........ Oh Yeah, it's a Marble Show too- Lee always has some great marble related stuff. Marbles too. I bet the Big Popeye Box was a show stopper. They must have been a special run- you sure never see them around. I'm Hip, :Happy_457: LL

I read that in one of Alan's listings too- that he was canceling the bidders with zero feedback. I didn't know it had spread around to other sellers. I like to look at listings of marbs that I'm not going to buy- just like most of us- but, I agree that time spent just messing things up is just 'stooped'. LL

Hey! There's still time to bid. I'm Hipper than usual, LL

The reason it brought so much money is that it's not a sulphide or a sulfide- :Money_0031: It's a SULFATE. :Money_0031: The push that put it over the top is the extremely rare Albino Eagle figure. These guys have been in business for over 35 years, they know how rare a colored figure Eagle Sulfate is. :Sad_headshake_tweetz: LL

Hi Steve, I have had a few hollow china spheres. One had several holes that were pierced in it to line up with the painted decoration - reticulated. I always thought they were for drapery cords or ending some kind of string or line. Yours seem too big for that. Lloyd

Steph, It looks like they 'Dumbed Up' their descriptions a little. You don't have to guarantee what you don't say. Being too smart as an auctioneer can hurt the bottom line. There were some pretty rare marbles offered & evidently happily gathered on up by collectors. I'm Hip, :Happy_457: LL

John- :Money_0031: Thanks for the link to the final prices. :Money_0031: Looks like some really nice marbles changed hands. That lot #926 Onionskin with Mica would look nice in my marble case. I could display it right next to my empty wallet. I'm Hip, :Happy_457: LL
