  1. but even much much more likely than with marbles. The variables are probably 100 times greater with marbles than coins
  2. I do not believe any 2 machine made marbles can be "EXACTLY" alike. Width of bands or streams, Size of marble, color, amount of glass striations, way too many variables. Close yes, but exact, no way IMO
  3. I would imagine most pattern similarities on swirls would be a fairly short lived happening, Since everything involved in making the marble would have to remain exactly the same it just amazes me to find these situations. Glass temp must remain the same the orifice must stay open to exactly the same size. The striking glass must remain in exactly the same thickness and the glass must fold in exactly the same pattern. And although the similar marbles may are from the same run it is possible there were millions of others from the same run that have no pattern similarity. Amazing!!!!!!!
  4. Spectacular marble! Sure would like to see Surface close ups. Especially of the top pole.
  5. I bring that up because of the recent Jabo runs and the later vintage cullet use marbles many folks have come to think of a machine made marble run being finite and to the degree of only a few thousand marbles. This just wasn't the case back in the day with most marbles. The runs often lasted days or even weeks or possibly longer. Much of the stuff put in the ground was part of a run that did not work or often a short run when things turned bad. The term "experimental"(rediculously used IMO) is a term used when there is real no way to prove the manufacturer was actually experimenting. Wow I got way off track(LOL).
  6. I agree they mean different things but there are very few if any actual numbers in writing of how many of any type vintage marble was actually produced. Although we do know how much inventory of certain color slags was on site during early production inventories done each quarter, at Peltier different color combos of opaque types are not really mentioned. There are some numbers available for MFC marbles but other than those I know of none. I am only talking Vintage. I have to say in marbles rare and HTF can seem fairly synonymous since we do not have facts on how many were actually produced. Of course both these terms have an extreme amount of variation to whoever is using the term. Someone that just does ebay vs someone that does ebay and attends shows vs someone that just does stores and flea markets vs someone that does auctions, where you live, who your marble buddies are etc, etc. In CA any CAC is fairly HTF but I would not consider many types Rare although they are rare in CA or are they just HTF?????
  7. Same run same day????? notice the 2 fine lines beside the large color stripe, Colors change the longer in the furnace, They would have had to change the rounding rollers during this run to make the 2 size marbles
  8. Often putting up a current running Ebay auction will not get much response as often as not someone or several readers will be bidding on the auction and really hate seeing any attention brought to the auction they are hoping to win on the cheap.
  9. Thousands of milky Oxbloods came out of the ground at Akro. Many very mint, Same run? Seeing how Akro and a few other companies made their own glass and made the same style marble day after day after day would that be considered same run?? A run may have lasted weeks or more
  10. I am not sure if you are insinuating that the marbles are not fairly divided. If you are I only have the one run I was at to go by but I can not imagine there is a more fair way to divide them up than they use. Someone not investing uses a sccop in each container of marbles rotating each scoop and places it in the shipping box. They rotate through each large container so no individual box get a majority of good ones if they have accumulated in one area of a large container. Like I said earlier, Seems like sour grapes. These were posted because you said you did not think any collectible marbles were being made since Dave was removed. I beg to differ.
  11. here ya go seems they have been making some that appear very "Collectible" Guess I just looked a little harder http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-JABO-JOKER-XXV-Marbles-09-23-2012-MINT-/390571066640?pt=Marbles&hash=item5aefd98510 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Box-16-JABO-JOKER-XXV-Marbles-1-w-lutz-09-23-2012-MINT-/380611995239?pt=Marbles&hash=item589e3e2667 http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Box-48-JABO-AQUARIUS-Classic-Marbles-Mint-5-8-/390569088982?pt=Marbles&hash=item5aefbb57d6 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Box-16-RENO-GOLD-RUSH-Marbles-1-with-Lutz-Ribbon-Mint-3-4-/390568118284?pt=Marbles&hash=item5aefac880c http://www.ebay.com/itm/MARBLES-JABO-RENO-GOLD-RUSH-RUN-6-COUNT-COLLECTOR-SET-MINT-/380612556136?pt=Marbles&hash=item589e46b568 http://www.ebay.com/itm/JABO-MARBLES-RENO-GOLD-RUSH-RUN-LOT-OF-50-2-3-2013-UNSORTED-/330902100633?pt=Marbles&hash=item4d0b4d5a99
  12. I did not know Jabo ever employed glass makers?? Any way, knowing that I will probably be the one terribly chastised for saying so I must say a couple of the previous posts appear to be nothing but sour grapes. Not yours Ann. It is amusing how the board has turned into an advertizing platform for the new Sammy marbles and a slamfest against the old hero Jabo. What happened to the old give them all the support you can as they are one of the last American marble companies???????????????? No more free marbles I guess(LOL)
  13. Here are a couple pics of a similar one Bert sold as being 20s-30s. Every one I have shown it to believed it to be early contemp
  14. I would think many a single furnace made marble would only have one pontil????? Cane cut would have what some would call 2 pontils but really only one as the marble is usually worked down to a single break off . Semantics?
  15. Can't believe you didn't box up some of those shrooms for a trip to Vallejo(LOL)
  16. Bert has listed many marbles that he believed to be a lot older than most collectors believed.
  17. I have and have had several of that style, Bert Cohen says they are old but a general consensus places them at maybe lat 60s 70s
  18. The only green based guineas I have seen were not made at CAC. Although 2 different people would disagree with me(the owners of 2)(LOL) Fred has made many on a lighter green base.
