  1. I agree the other possible is Marble King. I agree there are two different ones. A white base with red/orange patch and blue patch. One with white base red ribbon and a blue patch. A patch and patch. A more of a ribbon and patch. Champion for sure bought marbles from both Vitro and Marble King.
  2. Many of the Champion Bicentennial bags filled by Champion contain a mix of different companies marbles. They contained marbles from Champion, Vitro, Marble King, Ravenswood, Jackson, and Master. Some had less of a mix with different companies. Not many had the Jacksons. But most all filled by Champion had some of their own marbles plus Vitro, Marble King the more dull or flat white, red and blue Ravenswoods, One man at Salem WV east of the Champion factory had probably at least 1000-2000 of these bags. Not that long ago Dave A. in VA got a few rolls of the empty bags, several hundred. So even the emtpy bags are still being spread and likely filled by anyone. Dave A. also got a few boxes of the filled bags, not long ago when some of the last contents of Champion were sold. These Champion Bicentennial bags have always caused confusion and will continue to for many years ahead. Champion bought marbles anyplace they could get them for as cheap or cheaper than as they could produce them. They packaged them and also sold them to jobbers. Yes Roger Hardy did buy patch type marbles from Champion. But he has never said to me that Champion made them. Roger has for many many years sold Champion bags with Champion headers that contain the white base with red/orange blue patches. I do no think Champion ever produced patch type marbles as normal production. I think those Roger bought from Champion were more likely produced by Vitro. I have never found any Champion employee who said they ever produced patch type marbles. Champion had a long maybe 75-100ft. narrow maybe 16ft. white building that did set along the street and across a small creek. This was used for storage and packaging of most all the other companies marbles they had purchased for fifty years. The floor finally rotted and fell through due to the weight in the early 2000's. Tons of marbles went into the creek and have been dug over the years and confused as Champion made. I was inside that building years ago.
  3. I also have seen this display. That table, box, solitaire board top is amazing. Those are all three inch marbles. This is 32-36 inches across. I have never seen anything else like it.
  4. Vitro 8 fingers. Eight is a requirement. There are some foreign ones that look close. But the fingers come together at the cut line to make more of a point.
  5. Yes ! They are all WV marble companies in alphabetic order A to Z. I will guess Akro as #1.
  6. Nice Tri lite. Most better older Tri Lites have clear glass. The more clear and bright sharp colors are the older ones from Vienna WV Vitro location.
  7. You are correct, I forgot about the JP. That is probably going to get worse, LOL. Jack Pressman is the person who finally got Alley in the black with marbles money. When Alley was at the Pennsboro WV location he had cardboard in the bottom of his shoes to cover the holes. For several months he could not make the payroll. The employee's all stayed working for him with no pay. They had enough faith to stay working. Then the Chinese checker craze hit and Alley paid all the back pay with extra. Then he had to expand and moved to the St.Marys location. Jack Pressman and Berry Pink were long time friends and business partners with Alley since he started into marbles and until he died. Alley was partners with Pink and Rosenthal while they were all together at Sistersville WV.
  8. Anti Blackie Are these below Anit Blackies or Yellow Jackets ? Some of the Vitro marbles can fit more than one name. Yellow Jacket is a company name. Anti Blackie is a collector given name. They are Yellow Jackets, they have white base and three colors. Anti Blackie has white base and two colors. One band of color around the center and another color on each side.
  9. Sammy's has made them up to four inches. He just made a few hundred three inch ones this past late winter and early spring. He thought that he was done making the large ones. But he did some more. I don't know how much longer he can do it ?
  10. I think you are correct Ric. I think they are early All Reds. I wish Blaine or Louie were still with us, they could give us the answer. They are plentiful around here. But I have not found them in original package.
  11. Another box split up. But that is probably the best way to get the most money. Several can afford one or two or three, but not a 25 count box set. Someone years ahead will have a big expense refilling the box someday.
  12. You found one for sure Ric. A Vitro Tomato which is mentioned in some of the older books, like Greenbergs Guide to Marbles. Which was my bible when I started researching WV swirl companies and lots of other marbles. From what I have seen there are more 7/8 than 5/8 size. Like many marbles once you have one in hand or own one, they are not so hard to identify. But they are not just any red/orange marble. Some will have the V some will not.
  13. Great information and research. This is so much needed from all over. So much was lost in WWII. It is not easy to find marble information about production outside the US. Thanks to Winnie and her research we now know so much more about Veiligglas. Now new information about man made stone marbles. Thank you for your effort and sharing this.
  14. As I said there are not many box sets which contain Alley marbles. I do know of two, the small red box Allies with three marbles. The other one in the larger box with big marbles most are all one inch or larger Alley swirls, which it is marked Big Shot. Below is the small red box Allies with three marbles. Allies is a nick name for marbles. Lawrence E. Alley is Alley, not Allies. Yes if original 99% will contain three Alley swirl marbles. That does not mean L.E. Alley company packaged them. I do not know who the box maker or printer was. I do not know who the jobber was that filled and sold the boxes originally. It could have been Jack Pressman, Berry Pink or several others. Both of those jobbers had close connections with L.E. Alley. I am sure that Lawrence Alley's company never filled or sold these box sets. Two of his grandsons have told me that their grandfather never put his name on or with any of his marbles. Lawrence did not think he was anything special to spend money on having his name or company name on a package of kids marbles. There has never been any part of these boxes ever found at any Alley site and the Alley family has none and know nothing about them. Lawrence did put his name on some #2 yellow lead pencils. But not on any bag header or box of marbles. I If someone ever finds a box set or bag of marbles with Alley or Lawrence Alley or L.E. Alley or Alley Agate that contains Alley marbles. Please let me know. This small three marble red box has caused confusion has being from L.E. Alley every since I have been with marbles 25-28 years. You may even see it in a book as a Alley package. But no marble book is 100% correct. For may different reasons. Someone had about 30 or 50 of these for sale on Ebay a couple months ago. You can find one or two for sale at almost every marble show. Just my opinions, research and some help to do away with old myths, assumptions and beliefs.
  15. Alley never boxed any of his marbles or put his name on any package. Not many box sets with Alley marbles. The small box with three marbles which says Marbles and opposite side Allies. Different Allies and Alley, Allies means marbles. That is the one Ric is talking about. There is another box set with Alley marbles. It is larger and holds 20 or 25 one inch and larger Alley white base swirls. It is marked Big Shot Marbles. It is rare, I know of two.
  16. Old pics, I need to take some news ones. Bill has some good pics, especially of his Chocolate's.
  17. There are many different very nice Jabo oxbloods.
  18. A swirl for sure. The second set of pictures sure looks like old Alley pattern. But the first set of pictures look more Champion.
