  1. I have also been confused the last 14-15 years that i have been around marble collecting. Many say,i am still confused today,LOL. I had problems when i saw many marbles being sold as CAC,and that same week,i saw the same marbles coming from the dirt at one of the WV swirl marble factories. The marbles below are just one example of several. I still saw these with tags at shows, listed on ebay,as CAC even in 2010. Years ago they were sold as CAC and for $50.00-$75.00 each. But once they became Alley the price dropped to $20.00-$30.00,but it is still the same marble ? I am confused again ????? Even in March 2007 i noticed a noted CAC collector,Kokoken bid on one of these on ebay listed as CAC. I contacted him(i still have the email)and give him the Alley info. He said that it was one of his favorite CACs. He managed to get a few from me at a much lower price, than the CAC price. We have to saty informed and be willing to change. Collecting machine made marbles is young compared to most collectibles. Not all the older information was correct and some of todays information may not be correct. We use what we have at the time, but that information could change or be updated tommorow. We have to stay informed, there are many ways to do it. If we do not,we can only blame ourselves. Apply the same questions as for other items, why, how, what is the proof, etc? Then decide for yourself, but be willing to change.
  2. I don't know of Ravenswood ever making a coral but i believe CAC,Alley and Champion did. The one in the center of the group from Les,is a Alley.
  3. A Stutsman,is i believe Charles or Charlie Stutsman. He was a friend of David Chamberlain. I think Mr.Stutsman purchased marbles from Champion Agate, made up these sets and sold them. David may have helped make up the sets and also sell them. David would have all the exact information on these. I think one of these complete sets would be rare now. They would be a plus to anyone with interest in WV swirl type marbles.
  4. The Mah Tong were made by Alox. They were probably sold in big numbers during the final auction.
  5. Sam Hogue sulfides. The one with the air entrapment ring is 2 1/2 inch, and the others are 2 1/4 inch.
  6. Sorry no show pictures. A few things i brought home.
  7. I agree,i also have the same box,and it is also with my Vitros.
  8. I hope to go,if the snow stays away. Not sure if it will be thursday or friday. Anyone else going thursday? I have to get a phone number for reservations. Hope to see some of you there.
  9. No shame, you cannot leave me out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220717485216&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
  10. Actually not made by Heaton. These banana cats may not be hybrids but unusal. They were made by Bogard and a few packaged in remaining Heaton bags. More details in Americam Machine Made marbles page 48.
  11. HAPPY NEW YEAR to All !!!!!!!!!! 2011 ahead.
  12. This could get long and time consuming, but good questions.
  13. There has been a lot of machine made marble history surface here in the USA,the last ten years. It was discovered that some of the earlier beliefs, articles and guesses were not accurate. I have no doubt that there were machine made marbles produced in or around Europe. Sometime around the 1930,s maybe up through the 1950,s or 60,s. My hope is that someday, someone will make the effort to do the research and get some details and proven facts of this. It will not be easy or fast, but i have to believe that it is there. It was here, and had been all along,in many different forms. One lead goes to another, but someone has to follow these leads. Some are true and some are not. The information will not search for you. You can wait for someone else to do the work. But,that could be a long time or never. Hopefully someone in the future will get actual details and ture history,of the Euopean old machine made marble producers and their marbles. You have a start, don't give up the search.
  14. I know for sure that L.E. Alley was made a offer to bring his family and go to European countries to build marble machines and make marbles, expenses paid. He declined the offer, but he did send full detailed blueprints for his design marble machines. He also sent recipes for glass marbles. But not to Germany. I would have to check again but i think it was Beligum and could have been Holland. I don't remember any mention of Germany or France. Also a big majority of these WV swirl companies exported large numbers of marbles to Europe.
  15. Any metal machine shop could have made the parts once they had the prints. The Scagg machine shop in St.Marys WV made many of the Alley machines. George Murphy had a machine shop near Pennsboro. He made some of the machines and machine parts used in the area.
  16. There were several, several, thousands of this type Alley. All very much identical, colors, except for size or pattern. It had to be the same recipe over and over. AV accidental or not,i have no proof either way??????????? There are also similar Alleys except they are two colors of av. One is the Alley with a blue av swirl beside one with silver av. The other is a blue av swirl bedside a green av swirl. ?????????????
  17. I wonder who made it or when?
  18. Happy Birthday once again,SPRINKLES !
  19. Correct,Alley Opal Lady,in the Alley blush line, named by Bill McCaleb. Sorry for the late reply jeeperman,i have been busy, holiday, hunting season, building garage, making marbles, etc. Winter is here, maybe i can visit more often now.
  20. Most of those just look like swirls to me. I think there is a lot of confusion about true wirepulls and swirls. Champion made several that resemble wirepulls. Other WV swirl companies also made swirls very similiar to wirepulls but Champion probably did the most.
