  1. I have seen a few hundred original Ravenswood bags, mesh, plastic and many many boxes. I have never seen a one inch or larger swirl in any of those original containers. I have had this magazine article for 12-15 years, but i still question it? One simple BIG reason is where are the one inch and larger swirl marbles? We know for sure what the larger Alley marbles look like. Most people think these are Ravenswood. I have never had a one inch or larger swirl, that i could say 100% was made by Ravenswood Novelty. There may have been a few larger swirls made at Ravenswood by employees expiermenting, etc, but i am not convinced that they made them as normal production. They did make many in the 11/16 size and some 3/4 size. Maybe the bigger size that the article talks of was the Paul Bunyans? You may have a problem convincing people of that? No one knows of Ravenswood having a set of one inch rolls. Most all the one inch rolls were well known and where they were or went. One inch Ravenswoods,????????? i will not say impossible! I noticed something at Jabo during this last run. Which i had not seen before. A open end,box end wrench hanging at the end of the rolls. The two operators used this wrench to guage the size of the marbles coming off of the rolls. I have a older newspaper article where Edwin Safreed was interviewed. He was there since it's very first day,Ravenswood Glass until the last day of Ravenswood Novelty. He also did it all, from, mixing batches, hauling cullet, all repairs, running the machine to packaging. In the interview,he stated that they used a end wrench for sizing the marbles. Still today the same equipment and methods being used in making marbles.
  2. They can make one inch marbles. Why not, expense. To get the same number of marbles, the one inch size would take 1/3 to 1/2 again more investment than the 3/4 inch. Everything would have to grow including the selling price. Got a extra $50,000.00-$60,000.00 go for it. Then hope they turn out as you wished. It is so easy even a caveman can do it.
  3. I think the vintage marbles were mass produced more than these.
  4. I have these and some from other past runs,if someone needs examples. If not, that is also fine. I will be happy to keep everyone of them myself for my own use. For myself, the marbles are worth what i paid,i am happy.
  5. Amen! Once again if you like the marble, old, new, clay, glass, whatever and the price is fine with you,buy it. Buy the marble not the makers name. Should a newer version or as some have said, exact same(i disagree),be worth 50 cents and the same, similar old version worth $300.00+ ???? This gap seems larger dealing with marbles than most items. It is everyones own choice,it is freedom, the U.S.A.
  6. The yellow and pink does not look Alley. The blue/greens look Alley and the Blue/white is a Blue Skies.
  7. I still have one case left to sort. Already had a few phone calls for them.
  8. I wish that i could sell at Marble Mania prices.
  9. Delbert,no blush,keep searching.

    Vitro Opals

The opals first require a opal base and multicolor patches. Multicolor patches can be two colors, three colors or 4-5 if you can find them. I have never heard that one color had to be yellow. As the pictures show, there are several that do not have yellow. Some other named Vitro marbles do require one color to be yellow, superiors, buttermilk, etc.
  11. If you find a handful, you know how to reach me. I am still buying them, when i can find them.
  12. Thanks Griff. Hope to see lots of you here in May. We moved the show back to Mineral Wells the southern most I-77 exit near Parkersburg WV. We held the show here a couple times a few years ago and everyone seemed to like this location and hotel. Reservations being made now, first reserved, first served. We have different size tables this year and the early reserved will probably take the larger tables. If anyone needs any info pm me or contact any club officer. Email address,s on club web site. www,westvirginiamarblecollectorsclub.com Thanks
  13. What no Marble Kings. Did i miss the Marble Kings ?
  14. You will have to take a number and get in line here at Canton for a chance at the Marble BAT.
  15. I agree and i may have been the next to last standing. Got some great marbles,Alleys,Pelts,MK Green Hornet(old type),etc. Not sure what happened friday, especially friday evening or night. Some said we are getting to old for the day after day,and late nights,LOL. Another one of the last ones standing was Galen. I couldn't believe he was still out looking for Jabos.
  16. Exactly! I am not convinced the seams show up just because of the shear. Not including hand gathered, etc, but most all machine made marbles went through a shear of some type. I have some thoughts but still getting some confrimed. Why do most of the WV swirls and some others normaly have no seams easily visiable??? Yes,they had to have cuts, but why are they hidden more than,Vitro,CAC,Akro,MK,Peltier, etc. Why do some CAC and a few others have only one seam showing? I always thought even as a child that these straight lines on or across a round marble looked out of place or distracted some from the looks. Do the seams show up in the finished marble because of equipment misalignment, temp, the configuration inside the main tank, glass type, type of shear, shear blade width, etc,. I know some of the above has an affect on shear marks or cut lines appearng. Griff and i do know some things that can affect cut lines or shear marks. We made some single seam and some double seam Jabos one night during the Tribute to Friendship run. If the older larger companies could control the seams, cut line marks showing on a marble. Then why did they not eliminate them?
  17. From memory the clocks go for about $300.00 to $500.00. The lamps go for about $700.00 to $1000.00 or more. That is if you can find either one. The Worlds Fair small trays usually go for about $50.00 to $125.00 . The larger trays usually go for about $100.00 to $150.00 .
  18. It is simple,if you like them it is ok,if you don't like them it is ok !!!!!!! It is YOUR CHOICE. They sure have gave marble collectors something to discuss the last two years. Time for me to find another thread.
  19. I agree Akro. But including CAC in the title and description is getting lots of bids. Again it should be the marble people bid on,not the company name. It may have done even better if they had mentioned Ohio attic, basement or old garage.
  20. Newer Vacor or foreign. Easily found. Do not think they are old CAC gunieas. The Ohio attic story is to lead in that direction.
