  1. Hi Chuck, whats next Oprah or Martha Stewart? You are getting to be a regular on TV. Don't forget the makeup, and a pen to sign the autographs. Good job buddy, the exposure helps us all,and the hobby.
  2. Original marbles,i also have one that matches this, same as Don. I have seen a few others that match this one.
  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY EDNA ! Hope you blew all the candles out and you get your wish.
  4. Yes,i know where another one or two of these are. I know of one currently in WV.
  5. It is easy for me. I played marbles,i remember when the factories were in operation. Along with connections to the current ones. History, the search for answers. Most of the reasons above. But most of all is THE PEOPLE past and present. The marbles are just reminders.
  6. Thanks Joe,great report as always. Sorry we missed you, catch you next time along the marble road. I HOPE ALL the family is doing fine.
  7. There is currently only one Jabo factory and just north of Reno Ohio. They have been running industrial marbles steadily, along with some expierments and the private runs. Unfortunately it has not been the 12 or 16 machines that they once ran steady. A few years ago Jabo did have another factory site near Williamstown WV. It was closed due to goverment regulations that many of the foreign countries do not have. I was at Jabo this week, the gas was flowing and the rolls turning.
  8. Whoops! Jabo is also making marbles, and that paint can marble could also be a Jabo. I agree with Griff, nerves or something, not the normal Beri. I hope Marble King and Jabo keep the rolls turning, but they both need the help of our(USA)support. The playing field is way out of level.
  9. Those look familiar, like last wednesday. Nice lutz.
  10. Great run, nice marbles and unforgetable memories. Lots of pictures, mine alone about 400,many more of Miss Sprinkles. The Ladies did a wonderful job. Each one of them had a turn or turns at all the jobs, even sprinkles. They were tired but they did it,right up to filling the last box. My hat is off to the Ladies,WELL DONE !!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. I would like a book. But the link does not work for me. It only goes to an old email account,no longer in service.
  12. The marbles are not Alleys that i am familiar with. They look more like Champion colors. One of many problems at the Alley Pennsboro site is that Champion is also,so close. Plus Champion had many, many marbles from other companies which they used in the bicetennial bags. A long narrow building that spanned across the creek, was used by Champion for packaging. This building contained many of these different companies marbles, and it collapsed(with marbles)several years ago. This area is all named Glass Factory Hollow and marbles found here can be from different companies. Certian marbles are found in certain areas. Champion also used the vacated Alley building for storage of large boxes of marbles, mostly Champion. The Alley building(what is left)was purchased by a local land and title lawyer. He has had a excavator in there, tore up some more of the building roof and floor. Taking the dirt, marbles, cullet, whatever out. I got news that the EPA was involved and maybe the state. Some really dangerous chemicals has leached into that small creek now for almost 70 years. Once you see Glass Factory Hollow and the old picture how it was years ago, then it all makes sense.
  13. 100% Alley from Pennsboro site. Bill has a few,i have some, and another local old time Alley collector has three. They have been sold in the past mainly as CAC and Pelt. I know 100% where every one the these above came from.
  14. Lots of cash, baggies, cushioned shoe insoles,a back brace, wide open eyes and ears, questions, camera, note pad and pen,get list of rooms, you will get lost, get there early, don't miss in room trading,a big smile, visit and meet everyone. Plan on a good time!!!!!!!!
  15. Welcome ! Those pictures are excellent,it shows how it should begin. Divide them into like piles and just keep dividing. You will see the difference in each pile and then they can be divided again. You may not finish or fill the entire puzzel for some time, but you will start seeing the bigger picture. It is a big puzzel, many pieces, confusing, frustrating, and takes a lot of effort. But it is a accomplishment and rewarding when you begin to see the picture. A warning, you may never see the entire finished picture. I am not sure all of the pieces that fit perfect have been found yet.

Once again, just because they are purchased in a country or shipped from a country, does not prove they were produced there. Still lots of unknows around ? We assume, but we have to,thats all we have until we know for sure.
  17. I decided early on that most marbles which i wanted to bring home, would not be mint. For several reasons, that would limit very much what would be in my overall collection. Which would also limit my learning,it is a big plus to have examples in hand. It would take much more cash than i was willing to put out for only a very few examples. It would take many more years, effort and expense to find those few select ones. I decided that i could do with a lesser one until a better one come along that i could afford. Much of my collection has special memories, meaning, received as a gift, etc, and there are some which are a long way from mint range. But i wouldn't trade them for a mint one. I also see very very few that are mint under 20 power. This also depends on what mint means to you. I have seen marbles right off the end of the rolls have scratches, chips, etc, etc. So what is mint? I agree with Griff if mint is perfect, unmarred,is there such a marble? I usually have a loop in my room at shows but is used most for checking for fakes or reworked marbles. It did prove useful at the recent Canton OH show. This is all a decision every collector will have to make. There will always be collectors from one end to the opposite, especially in grading and what value a marble is worth to them. For me a near mint, good, even some collectiable are not worthless. I always see a lot more near mint marbles change hands than anything else. But of course the better the marble the higher the value. I wish mine were all mint and the very top value. But i have no plans of that ever happening. For me that would only be a dream and only that. Collect what you like, that you can find, and what you can afford.
  18. Last week it was a Paul Bunyan listed as Vitro, from the same person. WV even has a seller for blow pipes from the old Alley marble factory. At least now he doesn't claim it is a blow pipe for marbles. Just change the wording somewhat. Some need more marble education and some know 100% better.
