  1. Yes, i have several of the Bogard banana cats. A lot of them get very close to Peltier and most people never know the difference. I have one bag of Bogard banana cats with the Heaton header. Several years back,i sent some Bogard bananas to Leroy for polishing. The problem was afterwards he got them mixed and could not seperate them from his Peltier banana cats. He ended up just sending me some back knowing some or all may be Peltier. The Bogard bananas usually have a smaller vane in length and width, plus many times you will notice the seedy glass. Jack sold very few of these, like many of his cats. These banana cats were the most prominet marbles found by most diggers at the Heaton site. Unfortunately most all were left behind because no one had any interest in them at the time. You could have filled a five gallon bucket with these in a couple hours, but a lot were damaged. Jack made one,two color banana, blue and orange vanes. I took a marked display case of these to several shows(including Amana)years ago,and no one even checked them out. I had them for sale at many shows for $1.00 each and never sold a one. So they have stayed at home the last few years. Except,i did take them to the TX show, with much the same reaction. Sometimes it is not worth the effort.
  2. Nice to see everyone again and some new faces. Found some original mesh bags,Paul Bunyans,Worschester with buttermilks(big & small),Large MK with Pelts. A few original boxes,a Big Shot full of Alleys,Ajax with 400 Champions, etc. Plus i got a nice oak and glass TRIANGLE case. The triangle cases were made for Alleys, the A triangle. I was on the way and 29 miles from Indy, when they closed I-70 due to the snow. Lots of wrecks, you cannot drive 70+ in cars on snow and ice. It will get you sometime. Even if it is straight and flat. Hope everyone made it back home safe. The roads and drivers should have been much better.
  3. Hot inside, but cold and white outside.
  4. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Al !!!!!!!!! Who counts after the first 21 ???????????? I am at the Indy show. Lots of marbles, snow, ice and COLD. Tommorow night forcast here is -1 degree. Brrrrrra i am heading back east.
  5. I don't know who was first, but Alley was making chinese checker marbles about mind 1930,s (according to a daily diary). He got enough orders from Pressman that by 1937-38 he no longer had enough space for production numbers. So he moved to a larger building at St.Marys. These marbles are what took the Alley marble business out of the red and well into the black figures, and quick. He and Jack Pressman became very good friends. Good thread !
  6. I would say Alley,Pennsboro location.
  7. Vitro had some good oxblood and some weak oxblood in many different type marbles.
  8. Common Popeye patch. Blue/yellow white, most common color. Some are green/white - blue/white - dull red,orange/yellow white - green/yellow white. Made by Akro, found at Akro. Some found at Vitro,?????????
  9. Woolworths bags with Cairo Novelty marbles. What, who told? As Schultz would say "Very Interesting" indeed. That would be nice.
  10. I will give you your dollar back for the one just above the Pelt. Dang green, take a sharpie and make it black,LOL. Good example.
  11. NICE pics Don. I finally got a Worlds Fair tray with the original box. I will be looking for you and the other Ron S. this spring at the WVMCC show.
  12. I think it was about July 09. I also got a handful. No limited, special or expiermental run, just 2009 Jabo classics by Dave for Jabo, and friends. Like Dave,i still enjoy watching people dig in the box, till all the blood runs to their head and their back hurts.
  13. Not to start any argument, just another viewpoint from the actual dirt. Some information but not all, from a very lucky person to have had the chance to be there a few times. Raiders of the Lost Mibs. Thats good! LOL ! Do they make a fedora with WV on it? I wish everyone had the chance at least once. But as each year or month passes by,that chance is more less likely to ever happen again. Ten years ago it was not a big problem but it is almost impossible today. So enjoy what has come from the past. Some great pics in the thread and they should be seen and appreciated.
  14. Late but HAPPY BIRTHDAY Griff, and MANY MANY More ahead. Has the sunburned face turned tan yet? Other people also need fish, leave a few! Enjoy it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I agree ! I was also there during the dig with Tim and Frank. It was all legal, not all digs are illegal, many have been legal, along with the not so legal ones. Again unless you have taken part in at least one dig,how can you know the true facts if you were not part of it first hand. The tomb raiders legal or not, also provided us with past history that otherwise may have not surfaced. I agree that tomb raiding is somewhat different than digging marbles. Yes,a lot is not reported about digs for various reasons, some we have just witnessed. Once again,i can prove 100% that all marbles discarded at various sites were not all rejects or flawed. Each site has a different reason or story but it takes effort, time, money and work to get facts, instead of a biased opinion. One reason all the sites nowdays are normally no trespassing is because the owners are afraid of being sued. Another reason, like most things goes to greed. This discussion could go on and on,like it has for years. One fact is,that some people will never change thoughts or feelings no matter what is put in front of them. Yes digging continues, will the details or information be avialable? Doubtful, who wants to be criticized for their effort and work. I have dug with well over 50 or 75 different people and no more than a dozen came back for the second time and no more than a half dozen came back the third time. They found it not to be as simple, easy or glamorous as expected. Plain and simple,it is dirty hard work. Many times with little or no reward. The most common reply afterwards is that it is much easier to buy them. If you are only after the marbles, most days can end with disappointment. The dirty marbles have been one of my marble teachers along with the books, internet, shows and friends. Even a dirty, scratched, fractured, broken, half marble or a piece of cullet, can be a piece of the marble puzzel. But if you have all the answers, then you will not have a need for these. Some of my most cherished marble memories are of digging with friends,if we got marbles or not. Yes some of my friends are or have been marble diggers and i am proud to say it. But i guess that should stay between us,like most of it. How many dug marbles are in your collection? Are you 100% sure? Did you take all your marbles from original packages? I hope someone continues to dig marbles as possible, for our benefit.
  16. No doubts, that is a VERY nice Alley.
  17. Only 29 candles, thats to easy! HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!!!!!! Let some of those junk WV swirl Alleys come back home. Watch out 30 can sneak up on you,LOL !!!!!!
  18. Some of the recent special Jabo runs have got extremely close to Alley flames and Alley oxbloods. Especially the Rainbow run with clear base. I recently showed a few to some Alley collectors and could have sold them easily as Alley. I have a few that have flames of 4-5-or6 tips and on both sides of the marble. The 3/4 size helps tell that there may be a chance of Jabo. The smaller size tank wash marbles are not that close to Alley,so far. Dave M. had one(3/4)in his pocket at the last run and as he was showing it around, bidding started and it got up to about $150.00-$200.00 . Dave took it with him.
  19. A few days late but HAPPY BIRTHDAY Steve !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you got all the candles blew out. For some reason it gets more difficult as the years go by ? MANY MANY More ahead.
  20. Could it be a handmade drizzle by the drizzler? Is there styrofoam in that one? I saw some sweat dripping in some.
  21. THANK YOU for all your thoughts. The time was here. Kokomo is next. I plan to be there and many more shows in the coming years. Plus dust off the fishing rods more.
