Nice lot for sale on Ebay.

Recommended Posts

I watched a sale on ebay that just ended and thought it went for a fairly reasonable price compared to some I've seen lately.  I think it went for 236.  Like the Jabo one that went for over 200 that was talked about in here the last couple of days. Since I am new to collecting I've been wondering where prices are today compared to two or three years ago.   Is the market like the stock market, way over priced, or is it relatively stable?  I have been buying mostly in the wild and have gotten some really nice marbles, but that was a lot of hunting for the return.  Of course the excitement of a good find can't be sneezed at.  But does it make sense to shop on line for quality marbles hoping you don't buy a pig in the poke?  In other words buying from someone who is asking top dollar and getting out at the top.    I am sure these are question running through any new collectors mind as there is really no price guide to go on for purchasing.  Buying what you like is of course the most important thing to a true collector,  but there are budgets to consider so you are not burying yourself from lack of information.

Almost 6 bucks each.

41 marbles for $236 ? So about 60 cents a marble. Right ? I don’t see a Sleeper in this auction that would make up for paying 60 cents a marble. FWIW

How much would the big slag go for.? That was what I thought drove up the price :dunno:

Hmm, 41 marbles at .60 cents each is only $24.60.  41 marbles at $5.75 each = $235.75. Don't worry Rick, I had to use the calculator to figure it out, me bean aint what it used to be !! Been collecting since the mid 80's and never seen the price of marbles go this high this quick. There was a short period in the 90's where there was an extreme high followed by an extreme low. Now that somewhat of a base has been found and thanks to Ebay an actual number of marbles of any certain kind is known, the prices have been pretty steady. Seems a big buy up has happened ?? due to C19 I guess ?? driving the prices for many ever higher. Plus the fact there are a new generation of collectors coming into play and collectors tend to hang onto what they have. There are a lot of factors that drive the market. "I" guess just like anything else the law of supply & demand will dictate the price. Just "my" point of view !!

There are a lot of factors that drive the market

this will always be the case, how well was it advertised ,how well known is the collector who is selling ,will that seller ship international .getting two bidders that got deep pockets that will not back down because they WANT it

i seen an Akro Ox go for over $600 then 3 months down the road seen the same mib go for $45.00 both mint

Thanks Chad ! “ I’m not a smart man but I do know what is” 🤪

I have to use the calculator on the simplest of things, my brain just won't kick into gear anymore - :confused-smileys-327:  There seems to be a malfunction somewhere  !!!!!!!!!!

A couple of the slags are interesting...condition looks OK from a single pic.  Maybe different angles would show something that's not seen in this pic?? but what it really comes down to is how much somebody wants to pay for something...and you get two people that want it, drives up the price.  Lots of people with lots of money pay way more money than what I would pay.

Reminds me of a 80's rubber toy m.u.s.c.l.e figure I sold (years ago) for hundreds of dollars ( i think it was 3 or 4 hundred).  But it had been sitting in a bucket in my basement for 20+ years and in that same bucket at my parents place many years prior to that.  Probably cost pennies back in the day and I guess that's similar to marbles.

It also seems that it's not just the mint marbles that go for a high price now days. Seems like marbles that went for a dollar a couple years ago now go for $3 to $5. I think going to a marble show is probably your best bet in getting something that you really like for a fair price. You will probably get a lot of info in addition. I haven't gone to one yet, but one day . . . . You will probably pay top dollar on eBay being that there is a growing interest right now. Do a lot of research before buying the high ticket items that you like and jars are like grab bags, always fun to see if you scored anything. IMO.
