Polish or not?

I recently acquired these German handmades and wish to get advice on if they should be polished or not. The bigger ones ( 2", 1&1/2" X' 2, and then gradually smaller) are in pretty rough shape; but some are not too bad. Your advice is always appreciated.

If you can find someone to do them for a reasonable fee, I'd say go for it.  With the condition of these, you have nothing to lose.  Unfortunately, I've checked around and most people wanted $25+ per marble to polish which isn't cost effective when you think of the value of some post-polishing.

An important consideration is the depth of any damage. If it's too deep, removing it will also remove exterior decorations and leave you with a marble that may not look anything like the original.

They are little 24v torque motors .... I can get you the number if you want. But I think I got them or Amazon... or eBay.... you can grind or just polish. Only good for smaller marbles. I started to build a larger on on that uses a 120v motor and motor drive that is going to be 3 spindles belt or chain driven

Agreed. The internal pattern starts getting removed and somewhat defeats the purpose.  If it's just frosty surface damage, polishing will allow you to view/enjoy the internal patterns.  Probably not cost effective for these examples

I am okay with this! They have been beat up and if mine turn out half as good and beautiful as this then I will be very happy!

Totally agreed. I am collecting also. I don't have the experience, knowledge, or hutzpah to try and sell anything- especially marbles. I will produce these pictures a.s.a.p.

Some pictures show the violence and neglect suffered by older marbles; and may be shocking and inappropriate for some people. Viewer Discretion Is Strongly Advised.

All marbles were stuffed into a mason jar with the lid so tight and dented shut that neither the antique dealer (friend), or I could get it off. It was sold as is, and I freed them from the jar when I got home. ...with a hammer. No marbles were further damaged during this liberating process. There were more marbles than expected and some of the smallest ones are in much better condition than what you are about to see. No marbles have been further harmed or abused in the making of these pictures.

1st marble 1" & 7/8ths....

Personally I don't own or wouldn't have any polished, but that's my personal take. The cost of polishing any of yours will far outweigh the value,  i.e. most all are common type & size, Latts or divided ribbon core. I have several @ and over 2" w/ a very minimum if any damage, but collect what you like and do w/ it as you like, you're the only you you have to make happy, just my 2 cents Randy  :)
