It's like Roberto said, imagine taking a small piece of wire, folding it into a spherical shape and sticking it in a marble. lol

Okay, so I still haven't been able to lay my hands on that Pink "Bennington" but I did find an old pic. For this thread, you can certainly ignore the marble on the left - it's an early American. And I am sure there's a reason I photographed these two together - you might want to ignore the one on the right too. lol

Very nice marble, William!
-
Very cool, Chad - kinda different and bubbleicious!
-
The main reason I worry about them is because I don't think I ever saw one until about 8 years ago or so, and now this? When did you find your first one? And I have never seen a damaged one. Have you? I am worried they are new. Maybe a JABO investor run or something.

The beads are very cool, Joep.

That's a cool photo, Rick.

It is time to re-educate—Civil war marbles.

Thanks for reposting this. It's a nice representation of the varieties out there. Some are obviously whimsical and kind of fun - maybe even decorated by kids. Others are likley huckster's poor attempts to duplicate vintage marbles and deceive. I suppose the thing to remember is that there is no such thing as an antique magic marker. lol -
Yes, I was trying to exclude it in my first post. I apparently didn't do a very good job. lol.

To me, the white almost looks more like base glass than striping.

Definitely not Vitro - it's a WV Swirl of some sort. And I wouldn't worry too much about, some marbles just can't be identified with any real certainty, in which case, it doesn't matter much because they have little collectible value.

I'm not brave enough to guess on this one. In my mind, it could easily have been made by any one if several manufacturers - other than Veiligglas.

Just shy of 3/4" seems big for a Furnace marble, at least to me, so now I'm not sure what to think. Maybe they got that big, but I'm thinking more about Jabo as a possibility now. Do I see a speck of green AV left of center in that eye window?

They are Alleys, Ron just told me today that they are called "Woodland Camos".
-
The top one is an Alley Agate Superman - common fracturing and all. I'd guess Alley on the second one too, unless it's 9/16", then I might lean Ravenswood. They're both very nice marbles.

It looks like a Furnace marble to me.

That is a beautiful and impressive collection of micas. And among them all, a single red one. Your pic illustrates their rarity very well.

Very cool, Art, collectible for sure. Just looking at it though, it doesn't seem like it would spin for beans, which might help explain your difficulty finding info. It may have been been a short-lived item. I really think you should take one out and give it a whirl - just to see how it works. 😁

Nice ones, Dave. I especially like the gray blue one!
-
Nice marble, Rick! I got the ram, but I think you counted one of the birds twice because I can't find the third, or are you just trying to make me crazy on purpose? lol.

Thanks, Dave!

Nice, Rick, that's an ambitious project but it looks like you're off to a good start!
