  1. Just ordered a new book (not out yet) from Amazon -- supposed to ship in mid-July -- that others here will be interested in: Arnold Fiedler, Glass and Marble Maker Par Excellence, by Ralph K. Lucht. I've heard it has some timeline info, and maybe some glass formulae info too. Can't wait. Have to. Heck.
  2. Thanks for posting the pic, Al -- the one on the right is the "English caged fat core," although, as you say, the other two . . . dunno 'bout them now.
  3. Nope, the seams are not visible to the naked eye (and, of course, cannot be felt). I've only looked at both of these mibs with a 10 power loup (lost my good one), and they're not discernable in the glass at that slight magnification, either. I'll be interested to see whether they can be seen in the glass under Chuck's microscope . . . They only became visible when I hit both mibs with the black light, and then only in the slight orange florescent "skin" that covers part of each marble.
  4. Hi Chuck -- It will be coming with a second marble, with the same clear red base, that came from the Pelt box Art spoke of earlier (I also have a color photo of the Peltier shipping box that Art sent me -- it does look like a 1940s box). Also check them under black light. Both of mine have partial, faint orange luminescence on their surfaces, which reveals what looks like typical Pelt seams / cut marks / whatever you want to call them . . . Can't wait until you get the microscope! How kool is that . . .
  5. And I in turn would like to thank -- publicly, this time -- Art for so generously passing its custodianship to me, knowing I had an abiding interest in odd Pelts, and was an old museum person. I would like to emphasize that it is not for sale, and never will be. When I'm on my last leg, I'll give it to some other appropriate person. Chuck, I've told Steve that he can send it to you to look at before it comes back to me --
  6. Since my first response was -- seemingly -- censored, let's see if THIS reply sticks. You're taking things too far, Hansel. Unfortunately, there are other people in the world -- yes, the same world you live in -- who know more than you do about some things, just as you know more about some things than others. You'll be a happier person when you can accept that.
  7. Cute "and no one is signing them" subtitle, Hansel. They're playing marbles, not "artist's" marbles. Just walk away.
  8. What Steph said and what Steve said!
  9. Starts????? Now don't you start . . . I just love that emoticon
  10. FYI -- I can't remember which book I saw it in (unfortunately I've never seen a box of Persian Turquoise in person) -- might have been Block's on MFC / Christensen -- but I've seen a photo of an MFC box on which the word "Persian" was misspelled "Persion." I think that's where the original error occurred, and others, maybe even in an effort to be "accurate," persisted in sometimes using the term . . .
  11. OH, those bird cages -- I was wondering what was up with them. Thanks for the date info.
  12. I have never seen that many great chinas in one place in my life. Trying hard not to be insanely jealous. Failing.
  13. I've only heard the term applied to Pelts. Because of that, I've started referring to the two Akro examples (like David describes) as "submerged" corks, instead. That may also be closer to the truth, FWIW . . .
  14. Thank you for the lolcat bible! Ceiling Cat! I love it . . . (I once had two Abyssinian cats who had their own civilization)
  15. Also check out the work of Anton Bodor.
