  1. On Another Board, which shall remain nameless, two marbles are circled as the CACs. I'll only say that they are the two dullest marbles in the pic. Take it for what it's worth . . .
  2. In the beginning, buying and fondling guinea halves was the only way I could figure out what guineas really looked like . . . Nice halves, Steph!
  3. If Scoop hadn't said it first, I would have! Like her AND Griff, I personally would like to see more distance between the core and the first set of colored ribbons / threads, but there IS more distance there than is usual on this type . . . I might not call it a hard-core tri-level but I'd be entirely happy to call it mine . . .
  4. Judging by the "tails," looks like it could be an accidental blob of burned aventurine . . . intended to be a green / yellow popeye or popeye patch, maybe? Cudda been a stunner . . . what a great "error" mib!
  5. Yes to all that! It's definitely a HTF blizzard mica, and ones that big are very rare! Start counting your chickens . . .
  6. Yes! to all that, Griff & Galen. The "drag" on the shear in particular describes what I was trying to express -- thanks. Also, as to one or more seams disappearing into the interior, these are sometimes visible in Peltier slags . . . nothing at all on the surface to indicate a shear mark, but inside you can sometimes see the straight "clip" of the internal white.
  7. That's my motto -- Mental Health at All Costs.
  8. Agree with the sentiment. Spending that kind of money without knowing what you're looking at is just . . . yea, OK, stupid. I said it too. WHY DON'T THEY JUST SEND ME THEIR HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS? I'd send them some marbles too.
  9. HA! David, have I told you lately that I love your sense of humor? If not, remind me - - -
  10. Was just looking back through Castle & Peterson's cat's-eye book last night after a Bogard discussion with David, so it's fresh in my mind - - - in there, it said only that the ones with transparent vanes (we're talking Japanese cross-thrus, not MKs) are scarcer than the regular ones, and it wasn't clear if the transparency was deliberate or not. Don't know if David can update that or not . . . David?
  11. It's not just the box that doesn't look right . . .
  12. Are you including single-seam slags, too? Or just the striped opaques . . . (can't believe I just wrote "just" the striped opaques)
  13. You get dibs on the fishing channel, me and Steve get dibs on the backyard. Guess now we just have to make him toss them in both places! I think that's progress . . .
  14. But it's an interesting thought . . . I don't think I've seen enough to comment any more than that, but I sure will start looking more closely at any single seam ones I run across. Thanks . . .
  15. Forget it. I think he should throw them all out in his back yard so me and psia-antique can go over there with shovels and flashlights. And large sacks. And maybe a red waggon.
  16. Ouch, that's painful! Great buncha fingers!
  17. I'm still trying to recover from reading "86 guineas."
  18. I've wondered about all that for a while . . . I have no real contribution to make, except to say that I always thought of the CAC one-seamers as a product of timing, whether intentional or not -- that maybe the timing (and/or temperature?) was such that the bottom cut-off seam curled over back into the body of the marble before the second cut was made. That might also (theoretically) explain some of those seams-really-close-together CAC two-seamers . . . kind of a "blurp" thing! As to knowing how to eliminate the seams - - - maybe they did, but didn't care to. The makers just liked the effect? The seams are certainly diagnostic for CAC machine-made slags . . .
  19. PPs don't usually have that blending along the edges, do they? I'd say Master (or maybe Akro) . . .
  20. Seems to me people are just looking at them from two camps - - - those who buy primarily for investment and those who buy primarily for looks. As an investment? Who knows. But are some of them absolutely dy-no-mite to look at? Yep. Don't know how you could say those posted by Steph aint good-lookin' marbles . . .
  21. If Ron says he's never seen a Bogard like that, I ain't gonna argue with him! The green shade - - - hard to tell from a photo exactly what it is, but Bogard did have those wierd mibs with the wispy transparent green patches (with a little wispy white thrown in for good measure) . . .
