I love Masters! Thanks for bumping the thread. Here is one of my favorites: I turned this old nut pick/cracker box into a Master box. Here is a lovely pink/peach base (next to an amber for comparison): Master "cats eyes": The other marbles that shared that bag space:

The "Score!" thread. Post your exciting finds here...

It was a great year for finds in the wild at garage/estate sales. First I got 25 pounds of pre 1960 marbles for $20, heavy on Pelts. The first two pictures are a few of the highlights and the third is the sorted out banana cats, rainbos, Vitros and WV swirls. The bag of mint newer blues were scattered in the lot. Still more to sort and ID not shown. Group two was pre 1945 small box of marbles for $10. Lot's of lovelies in there - picture four and five. Not pictured are a nice small assort ment of Alley/CAC that didn't make it to the photo shoot. Finally, not a bargain, but lots of awesome stuff in a good sized lot. Brick, purple base oxblood, Popeyes, etc. Highlight picture (six) and two group shots with the highlights mixed back in (seven and eight). -
Here they are. The star was still attached to the black one. It was a mixed lot of nice old marbles in one jar and new/fake/ball bearings in the other.

Cats eyes and caged ribbon marbles

I love cats. I have a few hundred all different. The "shy away" comes from the age. They first started to appear in the 1960s. If I'm eBay surfing or antique store hunting for older marbles, I won't pay as much or may pass on a lot heavy on vaned cats. There probably won't be many oldies in the lot. On the other hand, you can sometimes get a gre at bargain if the pictures of the lot show lots of cats. Here is one of my favorites with a big trapped air bubble. -
I love the tiny marbles! I bought some off eBay from a craftsperson about 12-15 years ago. These are about 2-3mm.

I can't read it, but the red would be the signature and the black would probably be a saying or motto. Wonderful piece!

A couple months ago I found a big jar of mostly Peltier baseballs at another sale (about 20 pounds). Here are the highlights of that mountain of marbles.

Hi gang! I was minding my own business shopping at a tag sale and a box of old marbles called to me from the toy room. About 500 pre cats eye marbles for $10 (with Benningtons and clays). Here are the highlights, including a lovely burnt Christmas tree (with flash and without flash). Anyone else find marbles in the wild recently?

Marbles By Color Combo: 4+ Color
hrjane replied to westcoast_dave's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Pretty sure this little fellow is a Vitro (other opinions welcome). It was in a mixed 1950s/1960s lot with a bunch of Vitro Tiger Eyes. Transparent core with an off white overcoat and stripes of white, blue, green, lavender, yellow, dark red and blended orange. -
On these yellow and green cats the vanes glow in UV light and the base glass glows on these orange cats.

This flamey fellow was in a box of rocks in my neighbor's garage. I first thought Alley, now I'm not sure.

Thank you for showing the picture! Steph, here's the marble backlit, than darkened to show structure. Could be Master. https://goo.gl/photos/JQrui8E7VnKQdkMK8

They are machine made. With a bright backlight you can see nice straight seams. They do not have a glow. Can you make the image show? I had no luck with the two image codes I know.

Found at a yard sale today. $6 https://goo.gl/photos/W5q5QwoHZYYVAgT27

The Google service is new to me. I think the link will work now. I don't think it was "shared" before.

I got mine Monday. I made no special requests. All my frit/cyclones are colorless base. The mix was about 50/50. I was hoping for enough tornado/cyclones to fill a solitaire board and I got just enough. Many of the handgathereds were "muddy" toned, but, I got enough cool ones to make me happy. Trying again in album form. Three types of frit, My favorite 9s, and The rest: https://goo.gl/photos/ArFHvzFNnTjEKTDe7

I found a few goodies in a small jar of marbles in a second hand shop recently. Mostly Akro, and a cool first off cane handmade.
-
The dog itself is a common "toy" given to children in the 1930s-1940s. The added color striping is rare. I've only had one of hundreds with added stripes (a tiger). That may well have been added by an Akro employee. The usual coloring was just a splotch or two of glass.

missing two marbles. Not in picture: a wood top to spin in the middle. I think you get points for the marbles you displace.

Cats eyes - the orange have glowing base glass and the other two have glowing vanes. Master Marble - banana cat type : yellow turns orange in blacklight.
