I got a few at an estate sale yesterday. Mostly I'm showin' it off. It's a "flaming Christmas tree rebel". Red, orange, transparent green and ox tracers. It might bump into my "10 coolest" but I have to live with it for a while first. Thanks Bruce

check out the "Easter Egg" in my avatar. Bruce

Is a chartreuse base glass the defining characteristic of a "tater bug"? They're nice but I don't think I've even heard of them before. I guess I get to dump all my marbles again and look for a tater bug. thanks Bruce

watched it a couple of days ago, first rate as usual. I plan on seeing it again with mibs in hand. Thanks Bruce

I think I got this in '90 from a shop in Spokane. I remember I paid 5 bucks for it. All the time thinkin' I should have my head examined. I posted it once, long ago, on the other , now defunct site. The conclusions were errr... inconclusive. I thought I would try again. It's maybe a hair under 15/16ths. The pattern looks Pelt to me, the colors not so much. The ox looks Akro, streaky with black lines. Could be old Vitro, because of the U shaped seam. Except for the ox it's translucent. Any thoughts? Thanks Bruce

On the film I would have said Alley all day, but now seein' the stills.. Idunno. It's nice whatever it is. Bruce

I'm retired, you can send them all to me. I'll go thru 'em for you. Bruce

I think it's a sunburst, can't remember who made 'em,. vitro? alley? Bruce

I see at least 4 popeyes, plus some other corks, I'm a sucker for corks, so it's a nice pile as far I'm concerned. Thanks Bruce

Lotsa good stuff. What's the one in the top left corner? I have one pretty similar that I can't figure out. Thanks Bruce

I think Pelt too. Rainbo not superboy. Bruce

Art Millefiori unsigned marble ID and Date Help
Berryb replied to Catherine's topic in Marble I.D.'s
That is gorgeous. I don't think I would call it milliflori though. How big, it looks to be at least an inch. There are some contemporary hand made experts on here, they should chime in soon. But I'll say again, that is a nice one. Thanks Bruce -
That's a Bennington. Really big. The eye spots are from where they touched each other during the glaze firing process. Benningtons are pretty common, every collector has a bunch. I like 'em but I'm a bit odd. Look for the ones with pink in them, the more pink the better. Bruce

I think Vacor on the first one, although CAC "bloodies" have a brown streak next to the white. I think the cracks in the white stripe say Vacor. The next one could be a pelt "bruiser" , If so not too common, especially that big. I think you're right about the Vitro and the WV swirl. But I'm usually wrong. Bruce

Top center looks like a big ol' snake Cork to me. I'm a sucker for Corkscrews, so I feel your pain. Center rt. and bottom left and center look like WV swirls to me. I wanna say Pelt on bottom rt but I dunno for sure. Bruce

So the top one with the ox is Alley? I have a couple and always assumed they were Akro, but they weren't quite right for that, so now they're officially in a different pile. Bruce

Gorgeous Al. Is your #4 Alley Spruce the same as my #9? Thanks for showing. Bruce

Thanks both of you. A beat up marble is still a marble, they should be enjoyed. I have a pretty high tolerance for damage myself because most of my mibs come from yard sales and junk stores. Bruce

I don't have a link but If you go to youtube and enter Stephen Bahr you should get all of his videos, including 10 coolest. Also let's see your ten best. Bruce

Thanks Al, Lets see yours. Bruce

Stephen Bahr just released a video; "Ten Coolest Marbles". Not only is it a good video (Mr. freeze should be getting a call from Hollywood soon), I thought it was a good idea. I went through my pile and picked out these. It was a lot tougher than I thought it would be, especially narrowing it down from the final 20 or so. I decided to hold it to 1 slag, 1 cork etc. and this is what I ended up with. This is a challenge to everyone to pick your ten coolest. Here are mine in no particular order. 1) Vitro, 29/32nds, coral, black, white. Reflective of my changing tastes, a year ago I wouldn't give Vito, MK etc, a second glance. 2) Pelt swirl, 13/16ths, coral, brown, blue, in a clear green base. 3) Ox and green cork, 11/16ths 4) CAC swirl 5/8ths 5) Akro patch 5/8ths. six distinct colors plus blends. 6) Rebel hybrid 19/32nds. red, blue, black, brown stripes on a translucent white base. 7) Furnace? Yellow with red pinstripes in a translucent greyish base. 8 electric yellow slag 29/32nds 9) Aventurine swirl 9/16ths 10) cobalt glass swirl, 17/32nds

Goin' out on a limb here: 1st is a corkscrew, 2nd maybe a pelt slag, and 4th a marble king bumblebee. The rest; your guess is as good as mine, mostly alley or ravenswood, but not sure. I gotta say It was much easier before I wanted to know who made each one. I could pick 'em out of a line up "marble, refrigerator, patio chair, marble, marble, marble, and the last one's a toaster". But alas those days are over, now every time I look at a marble I'm just confused. Thanks Bruce

Ok, I'll bite. What's a tracer, and what does it mean. Thanks Bruce

I think I would have added another "?" to ravenswood, and then put Champion?. When you look at them in august you will see something completely different. I have some in a revolving door; Vacor?, Alley?, CAC?, the mind reels. Bruce
