Our local Museum has part of my collection for a couple months (rotating local collections) and I spent some time yesterday looking at folks' marbles and telling them what they have. This large amber slag came rolling in and I really had no idea on value so I snapped a couple pics and told them I'd ask on the boards. It is 1 & 27/32 inches in size and there is one tiny chip (didn't show up in pics that I took). I assume it is MFC. I'd like to give them a rough value range if they should sell it. Thanks for any help.

If you are goiing to put the word otu to the public and try and get new collectors involved, especially younger ones, then your idea of having some type of topic at each meeting would be a good one. Some thoughts for newbies and even some mid-range collectors include: 1) Grading marbles - showing different types of damage - have examples of subsurface moons, fractures, etc.; 2) basics on older handmade collecting (some machine made collectors might find that interesting since they may not know much about it) but need someone with good examples of basic handmades; 3) same thing for machine mades with examples of various basic types - cat's-eyes, oxblood, metallic, corkscrew, Rainbo, NLR, CA, etc. 4) later on, if you get kids in attendance, you could have one meeting where there are some marble shooting games set up; 5) maybe a talk by someone who sells (and buys) successfully on eBay. Just some thoughts although I agree with Galen if you only have the "normal" group of collectors that come to shows, etc. By the way, keep the "learning" part to a half-hour or so, and if certain people want more info, they can talk to the speaker after the "talk".

I thought in LA everything is an hour drive away - LOL!. I'd get as many people involved as possible. If people are interested in marbles, they'd come to a once per quarter meeting with an hour+ drive.

I wouldn't report him until you have some "conversations" with him. It looks like he might just be the typical eBay seller with just enough marble knowledge to be dangerous. Sure, he shouldn't guess or make up names but I'd say there are at least 30 or so that do the same thing and we can tell they are not knowledgable. Maybe invite him to post pictures to the iD section of the board and then he can sell after getting accurate ID's.

The item is your first picture is a purse holder (I am fairly sure) that you put on a restaurant table or ... The stone/cane part swivels so it is flat on the table and the "hook" part hangs down for you to put your purse strap on.
