  1. Sometimes friendship means a lot more than money!!! I think the $3200 I made that show was more than enough.
  2. sounds like you have some folks attending auctions that are not familiar with what marbles are currently selling for. Heck, at Canton I picked up a sack full of handmades all good sized that were a little rough for 60 bucks
  3. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Marbles-UNGLAZED-FLOWERED-CHINA-SHOOTERS-GREAT-COLORS-LOT-OF-6-/251248168276?pt=Marbles&hash=item3a7f8ecd54
  4. I still say it is Peltier(and obviously so) and Brian can be wrong. Just my opinion
  5. looks like the reseller put a finer polish to the pontil. When the feedback comes up someone can contact the buyer.
  6. the circular area almost looks like someone tried to polish off Brians melted pontil????
  7. Hope you all have a great show. Sadly I am still healing and won't be able to make it.
  8. the best would be a mix of Guinea type colors but any color except White would be OK in a lot of eyes.
  9. If the winning bidder on those auctions that went below the side offer had a large max bid in, the side bid offerer may not have won the auction if he had bid his side offer.
  10. Yes, anything is possible. And justification comes easily to many.
  11. It is a sleazy move IMO. Taking advantage of someones ignorance is not something to be proud of, is it. I think we all have a line we try not to cross, they are just at different ends of the field for many of us. Some folks will even use their marble board to take advantage of newbies. On a whole, I am sorry to say, there are a lot of shysters in this hobby.
  12. originally a Cobra was a CAC in which the color(s) was in a single swirl that was tail like on one end and wider on the other resembling a Cobra snake. I really don't even know what the definition is now.
  13. I would agree with you about Baumann, I made it sound like he did not use research and as you state he did much more than most Authors.
  14. I believe Baumann relied on a lot of hearsay and assumption as that was what was available at the time. A lot of mint original German packaging has been found. I believe a bit of investigation as to when those certain marble makers were in business may help date some of the marbles. As do some of the adds that have been found.
  15. It has been long established with "collectors" that a true peewee in "Collectors" Terms is 1/2" or under. It really does not matter what the manufacturers were attempting to accomplish when they used the peewee term IMO. There should be a line somewhere and 1/2" and under, has been it for a long time. Why try and reinvent the wheel. I think Peewee collectors will use the 1/2 and under line as once you start fudging every thing close will start getting called a peewee. The 1/2 and under rule has worked for years and will probably work for many more years. Lets hope so. This hobby is so full of assumption, hearsay, and mumble jumble already it is nice to have a hard and fast rule in place. Why contribute to even more confusion?
  16. free beanies for all that attend, but you must supply your own propeller
  17. Don't exactly know what BS you are directing at me Ronnie. I have been calling the marbles from Bulgaria as modern repros from day one???
  18. I have only ever seen this feature on a polished marble, Also the pale and weak definition of the 9 indicates a polish
  19. There is a good likelihood it is polished IMO. Good looking though
  20. There is a ground type similar to the one you pictured. They were more expensive than the recent types you mention with the surface millefiori on the surface.
  21. the same man did invent both. But the rounding part is not really what the discussion is about. It is what went on before the rounding that make a Guinea a Guinea
  22. Maybe, but hard for me to see how a metal rounding machine(ball bearings)would have inspired putting frit on a marble?? Of course your better imagination probably helps you see things I don't!
