  1. It happens regular. I never assume a identification on what else is in a group. I was wrong way to many times. What size is this marble ? Is it 3/4 inch ? Size can make a difference with many identifications. If there is any chance it was Vitro. It would be a killer and high value Vitro. More likely a Jabo.
  2. Never heard of any transparent blue 7/8 inch and oxblood Christensen. I cannot tell if it is oxblood or not ?
  3. Happy Akro Friday. Sold $637.50 $432.50 $161.78 $152.50
  4. Would you like to see in my case.
  5. I think you are correct. A RWB would be rare for Cairo Novelty. Red was the kids favorite color.
  6. That is not a painting. It is wall paneling at 4 X 5 feet.
  7. I helped a man off and on for a few years learning to identify marbles. He also was colorblind. Which I didn't know for a couple years. I was amazed how he picked it up doing ids without colors. But one thing for sure is he knew different companies patterns well. Take black and white pictures of a large group of marbles. Then sort them by companies. I taught him some and he taught me some. Colors are important, some you absolutely have to see color differences. But many can be identified in black and white only.
  8. Is that Onion Skin old or new ? If it is old it has been worked on. It just does not look right for a old original Onionskin. I agree about end of day being mostly myth and just a sales pitch to increase price. Why not beginning of day ? Who knows what would be the last marble, end of day. In one days time there would be hundreds of end of cane from one person. The first off of cane and last off of cane can be different. But end of day ????? Maybe they were there in person when the last marble was made that day ????????????? So many marble terms are nothing but sales pitches or traps to get more money. Like Golden Rebels are rare. I see them for sale at every show, every where. They are nice marbles but not rare in my thinking.
  9. I have seen these in 9/16-5/8 and 11/16 size. The two above are 5/8 size.
  10. Ric that is a killer Ravenswood Solar Flare. Party Denton was correct 25 years ago. These are from Ravenswood Novelty. I did a article on these in the WVMCC news letter . They can and do have different color base glass, but that electric yellow or and sometimes orange is always present.
  11. A few Davis Marble Works. The one below glows. The cream off colored white is a certain Vitrolite which glows bright. Some of the Davis and Jackson marbles contain this special Vitroloite cullet. Not all Davis or Jacksons glow. No glow. Made from old 6 oz. coke bottles and a tan Vitrolite cullet. No glow Does glow Does Glow Very slight glow Glows orange No glow Does glow
  12. Your collection is growing. Marbles in hand is a good learning tool.
  13. I saw some of them posted asking for id's.
  14. Some people have more extra money than myself.
  15. Vitro All Red is white base with one red patch and a patch of another different color. All Red is white-red-and another different color.

I don't see aventurine. Just lots of hit marks and chips.
  17. Looked black but I found the blue. I agree with Akro.
  18. Reminds me of Jabo Tye Dye. Might be Alley ?

    Hi all.

The number one factor with marbles is condition. I see lots of damage and condition issues. No matter how old, or how rare, condition is number one. A mint grade marble worth $100.00 at near mint grade is nm+ $50.00 -- nm- $25.00 and at collector grade $ 5.00-$1.00 . Big numbers of damaged marbles is big numbers of low dollars. Each time glass marbles bang together they can get hit marks. Metal ball bearings are glass marble killers. Usually always ball bearings found in older big collections.
  20. Bifurcated is two different base glasses for one marble, half and half different base glass. Probably when they were changing to a different base glass.
