Marbles At The Fort Worth Texas Show
Poplarhead replied to Speed Racer's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I have several of the shooter master (last picture). I got 6-8 at a Florida show in mid 1990s and re-sold two at that show . This is first one I have seen in a long time. Don -
Jack: You need to go to this site to see catseyes - much more active group on cats... Don http://marblemental.yuku.com/forums/1/Marble-Mental

I think they are older Champion Agates than Dave's time, more lik eold corals. The orange is two shades, a dark and lighter shade. No black. Don
-
Ric: Whoever made these is probably long gone -- these are vintage machine made marbles, I am guessing Champion Agate but maybe another company. I have had these for 15 years myself... Don

My camera doesn't show it but these swirls have electric orange coloring - as bright as I have seen on old machine mades but sad thing i smany of these have annealing cracks which I have found seems to be common in orange coloring. Don
-
Love this grey color - you won't see in another type marble... Don
-
Sad thing is has a chip on one side. Don

Large marbles only Winnie - packaged under Paul Bunyon label. I have found a few of them in wild but not often and occasionally a bag shows up . Ron Shephard got a large lot of the bags off Ebay so that is why you see more often now. Don

Rick: To really mess with your mind , yes they are in Alox bags but even though they made 1 inch marbls with Alox machine soem people still beleive these were made by Master Made or Master Glass and not Alox...... it is all confusing because there were no records in a lot of cases and people who made are no longer here. You still have a terrific find to pull out of an old barn, you don't find them that often especially in quantity. Don -
A Killer Old Machine Made With Copper/lutz...
Poplarhead replied to Poplarhead's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Its on a clear base - can't really see green tint in hand. I wish I still had the swirl marbles I sold in late 1990s on Ebay that had copper metallic swirls- as wide as Champion metallics. Hvaen't seen any since or posted. Don -

I am amazed by all the stories that have developed over the years in these posts. I told this in past and was attacked by people defending these marbles but I am going to tell it simply, I don't believe these marbles were ever made at the CA plant. In 2002 at the Indiana show ( I keep records of every marbles purchase I make so I know it was 2002) I saw batches of 100+ guineas and large amounts of minty CAS just bought by Les Jones in his room and was offered a box of 22 perfect mint CAs at the Indiana show by another dealer who got them from Les - no flaws which was not plausible to me and this dealer (who still sells at shows and is liked by many on board so I will hold back his name) said he was suspicious of them and was not sure they were old as he tried to sell them to me (for a ridiculous $100 marble)-it was full of submarines and wild striped opaques . The fellow selling called Les in advance, went to Les's room where Les made a large purchase and then resold quickly to other dealers. The old time collectors who saw marbles for many years before these showed up were highly suspicious of them but sellers like Les did not care as they had willing buyers waiting to get them. My opinion has not changed over the years - if the stories circulating originally of how they were found were true then similar cullet and damaged marbles would have also been around - they are not. If you like them, enjoy them and like themn as you do any other marble. Just don't ever try to sell me any. Don

Mike: I looked in my picture files and I probably have 50 + pictures of your boxes - some I sold and some I kept fropm other sellers as examples. Don
-
They are regularly on Ebay - I bought one some time ago -neat marbles game. The original box is neat also as it has newspaper headlines from what I recall. The basic game layout was used for other marbles games named differently. Don

Here are a few examples to give you idea of how to do your tin from my collection - the bags are really hard to find this size. Hope this helps. The first has original bag and original white corks- for old timers Bob Frede pulled the oxblood lemonade shooters that were in it and sold me tin- I replaced with lemondae cork shooters. Don

I got this Master Made box empty last fall of Ebay(contains small shooter sized marbles) and figured it would be a project to work on for years since I can't seem to make it to shows anymore. My goal was to use what I had and find a few runs here and there to fill. I ended up getting a full box complement from same source I had got some of these sunburst types in past before I ever got this box. Seems he had more and was selling on Ebay a few at a time. In 2 more transactions I ended up filling the box. Now on to some other project. Don
