I just think you can't get around calling these flames. I suppose if you want to get technical David may be right, but it still won't keep me from calling them flames be they Jabo Alley or otherwise. GB

Prayers and blessings for you and your family Windy. We never know how much time we have here, but we can rest in the promise of the life everafter. God bless you and your family.

Ot/ Thank The Good Lord For Marble Connection
glangley posted a topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I thought it important to illuminate, just a little, on how wonderful it is to be able to visit this website and interact with the multitudes of marble collectors. It is often the highlight of my day to be able to sit down, log on, and just enjoy a wonderful world of marbles. I know that there are arguments between memebers here and there. I would rather bypass all the negativity of those threads and reach deeply into others. Threads that teach the young, like myself, share knowledge with others, and threads that express the caring empathatic voice that permiates this board. God bless you all, and thank you for being here. I pray blessing over you all, for those who are blind to others feelings I pray for your heart. For those who are so very generous, I pray God continues to bless you so you can continue to bless others. The world we live in, is round like a marble and just as beautiful, but it keeps spinning no matter what happens to us little ants that make our home here. Time keeps ticking, and our lives just get shorter and nearer to the climax of glory when we will go home. Love your neighbor as yourself, never talk to strangers rather meet them and learn their story so they are not strangers any longer. I don't know how long any of us have left on this earth, so learn, love and laugh but also share, teach, and be kind even if it's not deserved. That is the definition of grace, and this world without grace is an ugly, ugly place. God bless you all, smile and know that someone loves you. -
Well, I am still a marbleshow virgin. Hopefully, if all goes well in the next few weeks I will be able to get out to some shows. I really can't wait to go, and was bummed out last year when our sistersville trip went down in flames. Keep your fingers crossed for me this year! GB

Can you please share the ebay id on this guy just so others on here don't get taken for a ride as well? Thank you, and God bless

Is this a WV swirl that just turned out spectacular by chance? It has two different parts of the mib that have three distinct sharp points in the blue. It's 5/8ths and just sweet! God Bless!

Hey, Happy Birthday Weldon! God Bless!

I have a few bigger ones, nearly three inchers I'd say. One is a white based red frit mib and the other is an MK blackwidow knock off, not sure what it's called, opaque black base with redish-orange patches. Both Vacor, but I do have some bigger benningtons, just not as big.
-
So, forgive a rookie question here...please. Those are Vacor's, right?

By looking at the glossary, the describe snowflakes as Marble King cats-eye mibs that had lots of crushed firebrick inside of them. Probably a fair guess as any. God Bless

Not off hand, and my skills are pre-rookie level. lol If you post in the general forum and ask if there are people out there that can help you out, then I am sure someone will respond to you promptly. This thread goes unnoticed a tad. Personally, I still have some equipment to get before I can do this properly; And make it much easier than my current setup. I have tried this on a couple old mibs. But since my torch consists of a can of map gas, it takes too long to heat the mib properly after I have brought it up to temp(1100'F) in the kiln. All the extra time under the torch turns the glass a different color, usually darkens all of them. And sometimes it can make the surface of the mib orange peel feeling, which requires a slight buff to get out. Once I get the regulators and gas for my big torch, I'll be perfecting the method as I have alot of mibs to work on that I don't mind loosing if they don't work out. If things go well and I can get good results more than bad, then I'll be doing good. God Bless!

Mike makes some killer jems! Whatcha been working on lately Mike? Got any to show us? God bless you guys

Alan, thank you so much for the explaination. I think I have a much firmer grasp on aventurine now. As for finding it, well... that's another story. Yet, my hunt will continue! Thanks again!! And God Bless!
-
Hmm, now you have thrown me a curve ball Steph... lol I have some old mibs with green swathes on them, and on that green you can see a flake here and there which I thought was just something that rubbed against it. But the flakes are definately below the glass surface, and have a metallic sheen on them. I know it's not mica, but's it's odd to say the least. Maybe just a wierd way the color came through? Or is it a sign that aventurine was used in the mib but didn't come all the way through, or was just some left in the tank/crucible. I really should get some pictures and show you, but they don't look anything like the pic's posted above, so it's probably nothing. God Bless!
-
So, my rookie question is... (lol) There is basically, no way to mis identify aventurine in a mib. It's pretty obvious by the examples shown. So, if it doesn't sparkle like a Jabo, it doesn't have aventurine. And I appreciate all of you posting your pics, very awesome and helps me out greatly. God Bless!
-
Wow! That's a ton of aventurine! Did they ever make them with thin lines of the stuff? What I mean is, lines that would look essentially blue until maybe I took it out into the sunshine... Which I will have to wait about four days now for the sun to shine up here in Grey Sky Land, otherwise known as Michigan. lol Thanks Alan, God Bless
-
I have a few different mibs, that I believe are older, and they have some blue in them. Sometimes the blue is just shading as it is just under white, sometimes the blue is in thin-ish lines. Also, I don't have a loop to check these out with, just a small magnifying glass which only works so-so because it's actually part of an old camera lense! lol Anyway, could you guys & gals post some pics of examples where you can see blue aventurine in mibs? However slight, or blatantly obvious would nice to get a mix of each. Thank you so very much, once again. God Bless P.S. I also have some that almost look like little single flakes of colored mica near the surface but they are few and far between, what would that be? Dirt? lol

Wow, I know this post is old and chances are that your question has either been answered somewhere else along the line or you have given up on it and decided to leave it be. Either way, annealing is the process of bringing the temperature back down to room temp slowly. So, you would have to go through the process above to bring it up to 2100' F first, most likely with a kiln overnight to around 1100'-1200' then torching the sucker and reshaping, possibly tweezing off the cloud you will have with the moon. Personally, with the risk involved of your nice mib breaking into pieces, I'd leave it and enjoy it. But if you have the tools and the knowledge, and don't mind taking the risk, go for it. You never know, you might just pick up a new swing on an old hobby. God Bless

What is going on with the boomers generation? Mays was on a plane that blew a tire yesterday when it landed in Tampa FL. He reportedly told a Fox affiliate reporter that he had hit his head on the plane during the incident. Could this have something to do with his death? Guess we will find out later. Wow, I had so many good idea's in my head for products and always daydreamed of hearing Billy Mays saying his lines about my stuff. lol God bless you all, and God bless Billy and his family.

I have some Vacors, just cuz I like em, even if they are made in Mexico and don't command a huge following. On the ones I have, the red and yellow are fantastically bright and don't touch, well if they do its only one or two points on the mib and they don't follow each other. The blue is a beautiful translucent in spots that lets you see into the mib, just another plus for me. This is a nice mib too but I doubt it's Vacor. God Bless

Yeah, probably sue you... then take your marble..... Better hide it in a safe place and never show anyone that works for them. :Cartoon_177:

Awesome! I have high hopes that Uncle Sam will finally come through for me and give me my due, and my four years worth of back due. lol Should be anytime now, and hopefully (with all fingers and toes crossed) it will be before the second week in July. Hopefully... God let it be soon!

Who is George Carter, and what happened to him? Those are some beautiful mibs! Wow! Keeping my fingers crossed that money will fall from the sky and maybe I'll get down there for this auction! Also noticed that this says Part 1, does that mean there will be a part 2 or 3? How many parts will there be? God Bless

Forgot to mention that this is just a tad bigger than 5/8ths, but not quite 3/4". Here is the last pic. God Bless
